[𝗘𝗣𝗜𝗦𝗢𝗗𝗘 𝗙𝗢𝗨𝗥: 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗟 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗜𝗦𝗘]

"WILL! SAGE!!" DUSTIN AND MAX shout loudly, trying to look for the teens. "dustin!" joyce calls out walking towards the two. "mrs. byers?" dustin asks in confusion.

"what's going on? where's will and sage?" joyce asked.

lucas suddenly ran in panting out of breath. "the field!" he said before running back outside. the two teens and adult ran out after him.

"will? sage?" mike tried waking his friend and sister up as they were both standing, but seemed like they were in a trance. "i just found them like this!" mike shouted to joyce as he saw her.

"i think they're having another episode!"

joyce runs up and grabs her son by the shoulders, looking over at sage and cupping her cheek with one hand. "will! will! sage? sage!" joyce tried waking the teens up. "sweetie, wake up! it's mom! it's joyce! will! sage!"

in the upside down it seems to be that will is still getting choked by the shadow along with sage. sage tried prying the shadow away from her throat, trying to breathe. tears spill from her eyes thinking she won't be able to make it.

"will! sage! wake up!"

sage suddenly gets an idea and closes her eyes, lighting her fists on fire.

"can you guys hear me? will, sage, please, just wake up."

the wheeler girl lifts her hands up and gets ready to strike.

"it's mom! it's joyce!"

"it's me!"

sage opens her eyes to reveal they are a orange-red color. the wheeler girl grabs part of the shadow that has will and part of the shadow that has her. the shadow shrieks in pain before both of teens eyes open up as they gasp in surprise.

   THE SIX TEENS WALK OUT FROM THE front of the school as joyce with will. sage holds a napkin to her nose as it had bled when she woke up. mike held his sisters free hand tightly making sure that nothing else would happen.

"okay, that totally freaked me out." max commented. "did that not freak you guys out? sage, are you okay?" she continued and put a hand on sage's back, rubbing it.

sage nodded and let lucas speak. "two episodes in two days."

"it's getting worse." mike added. "you think it's true sight?" lucas asked the wheeler boy. "what's true sight?" max asked the dark skinned boy.

mike shook his head at lucas for him not to say anything. "it's nothing." lucas replied.

the five teens watch as joyce byers drives off with will. sage moved the napkin away from her nose to check if her nose was still bleeding. it was.

"shit," sage mumbled and put the napkin back to her nose when blood fell on the floor. "it's still bleeding?" mike asked his sister and grabbed another napkin, putting it to her nose.

"yeah. pretty badly." sage replied and grabbed the napkin. "let's go home." mike said then began walking towards his bike.

everyone else followed besides max. the red head watches as the teens get on their bikes before lucas, dustin, and mike bike away. sage stays behind and looks at max, motioning for her to walk over to her.

max walks over to sage and feels herself get pulled into a hug by the wheeler girl. max wraps her arms around sage and puts her hand on the back of sage's head.

"i'm sorry i scared you like that. i can tell you everything later." sage said then pulled away from the hug, keeping her hand on max's waist. max nodded. "it's okay . . . tell me as soon as you can. there's no rush needed."

sage smiled softly then slowly moved her hand away from max's waist, biking away to catch up with her brother an friends.

there wasn't much sage did when she got home with mike. her nose didn't stop bleeding until an hour later, so when it stopped she practiced her fire powers since she was more used to them.

mike then had walked in with some comics in his hands, sitting next to sage on her bed.

"i found these and i think you'll be able to get some information about your powers." mike told his sister, spreading the comics out on her bed. "how will they help me?" sage asked her brother and stared at the comics.

"well, you have fire powers, yeah?"

sage nodded.

"okay, well you have the same powers as phoenix force from the uncanny x-men." mike explained then reached over, grabbing the comic, and handing it over to his sister. "she's pretty strong and powerful so maybe reading these will help you see how powerful you are." he continued.

sage turned her head to look at mike and softly smiled. "thanks, mike."

mike smiled back at his sister. "yeah, no problem. i can't wait to see how much you improve with them . . . you'll do great." sage nodded then leaned over, hugging her twin brother tightly.

mike hugged sage back, rubbing her back before pulling away when sage's door opened.

"hey, kids," karen wheeler smiled at her twins. "hi mom," the twins said in unison. "dinner's ready and sage —" karen looked at sage. "— max is here to see you. will she be joining us?"

sage nodded with a smile, slowly feeling mike stare into the side of her head. "great! i would love to have her join us! come on. let's go eat." karen said then walked away, leaving the door opened for her kids.

"you invited max over?" mike asked his sister with shock. "don't be mad at me, mike. i need to tell her what's going on with me." sage said with a sigh as she got up from her bed, putting the comic down near her pillow.

"no! no, absolutely not! she's not supposed to know anything about what's going on sage!"

"she's gonna know eventually!"

mike groaned as he followed his sister out of the room, hooking his arm with hers as it was habit he had since they were little.

as the twins made their way downstairs everyone was already sitting down at the table with their food served. sage smiled over at max and sat down next to her, mike sitting next to sage. max smiled at sage and leaned her head on sage's shoulder as if she were hugging her.

the wheeler girl smiles down at max before grabbing her fork, beginning to eat her pork.

"so, max, i've heard a lot about you." karen began and smiled at the red head. "you have?" max asked with a grin as she sat up right, glancing at sage. the wheeler girl bites into her pork and blushes slightly, chewing on her food.

"yes! sage just doesn't stop talking about you to me and nancy." the woman continues. "it's like she has some kind of obsession with you. it's adorable." nancy adds in with a smirk.

"are you girls dating?" karen asked with a teasing grin. "we won't judge. we support sage's sexuality in this house." she added on. "oh, no! me and sage aren't dating. we're just friends." max said quickly. "we're really good friends."

"oh . . . well you're an amazing friend to sage. she really appreciates you." karen said to max.

sage gulped as she swallowed her food, noticing the tension that was floating around the room. nancy glanced over at sage and noticed how her face fell when max said they were friends. she knew that sage had a big crush on max.

LATER ON WHEN DINNER WAS DONE the teens put their dishes away before heading upstairs to their rooms. sage held max's hand as they went up to her room to talk.

"sorry about that." sage apologized when they walked into her room, closing the door behind her. "no, it's okay." max said with a soft smile and sat down on sage's bed.

sage gave her a soft smile back and sat in front of max, moving the comic books out of the way and putting them on her dresser. max watched her, laying back on the headboard of the bed.

"you sure you wanna tell me?"

"yeah, i'm sure,"

the wheeler girl let out a deep sigh then closed her eyes, focusing on her hands before she felt them get warm. sage opened her eyes and saw her hands were on fire. just how she wanted them to be. max stared at sage's hands with wide eyes before she let out a smile.

"i got these powers along with telepathy and telekinesis a while ago when we got will back." sage began to explain. "remember when mike mentioned el?" max nodded in reply. "well, i'm exactly like el. she has the exact same abilities as me . . . except for the fire powers."

"wait, really?" max asked. "yeah! i got them because some of her dust particles absorbed into my skin. the next day i woke up to being able to move things with my mind and i found out i could do things with fire." sage replied then grabbed the x-men comic mike gave her.

"mike says i have the same powers as the phoenix force." the wheeler girl continued before making her hands go back to normal, grabbing the x-men comic mike gave her and opening it. "look, see," sage said then showed the phoenix to max.

"wow . . ." max whispered as she looked at the comic. "seeing as you have the abilities as her you might as well be the phoenix force."

sage smiled at the mayfield girl and chuckled. "i don't know . . . i'm still learning how to use my powers." the wheeler girl mentioned.

"right, right, but how can you see what will sees?" max then asked. "it's kinda complicated," sage told her and fiddled with her hands. "i can take it. try me." max said to the brunette.

sage looks up at max. "i'm kinda . . . connected to him i guess. i don't really know how to explain it." the brunette told the red head, not wanting to tell the full on truth.

"it's all right," max assured the wheeler girl.

the brunette nods before glancing at the bag max brought with her. "are you sleeping over?" sage asked the red-head. "yeah! i was actually just about to tell you that. my step brother billy does not wanna pick me up this late at night, so i thought i could sleep over. my mom already knows about it." max answered the brunette.

sage smiles widely and claps her hands together in excitement. "that's amazing! this is gonna be so fun." the wheeler girl says.

max lets out a small laugh and nods in agreement, grabbing her bag so she can get her pajamas out. "where can i change?"

"oh! you can change in here. i'll turn around." sage said and turned around, grabbing the comic book so she can look more into the phoenix force. "thanks," max said and began to change.

"yeah, you're welcome." sage replied and flipped the page of the comic.

a minute passes by and max speaks up. "i'm done. you can turn around now." sage puts the comic down and turns around, smiling at max.

"what do you wanna do before we head to bed? i already did my homework." sage asks and watches as max sits back on the bed. "i wanna see you work your magic." max smirks.

sage smirks back at the red-head and gets off her bed.

"ready?"

   THE NEXT MORNING CAME BY FAST and the wheeler's, along with max, are seated at the table eating their breakfast.

"do you like those grapes, holly?" mike asked his younger sister, holly, with a smile. holly nods and grabs another grape from max.

"hey, mom, i was thinking about staying the night at stacey's tonight? we were gonna have a girl's night. romantic comedies, do our nails, gossip . . ." nancy asked her mother as she grabs the toast from the toaster.

"sure! that sounds like fun." karen agrees with a smile.

nancy smiles then sits back down in her seat, showing the toast to holly. "toast? no?"

when everyone finished their breakfast they put the dishes away and got their belongings ready. mike, sage, and max grabbed their backpacks and headed out the house.

"you can ride with me," sage tells max once she gets on her bike. "thanks," max says and gets on the back of sage's bike with a smile.

the three teens head off to school to meet with lucas and dustin.

"we're gonna continue looking for dart," mike told the girls. "still?" sage asked her brother.

"yes! dart is trouble." mike replied. "max, you get that?"

max nods. "i got that."

"good,"

the teens got to the school and parked their bikes on the bike rack. lucas arrived not too long after.

"where we searchin'?" lucas asked. "we already checked inside, so let's go to the back." mike said and began walking to the back of the school.

"the dumpster?" sage asked when they made it to the back. "yes, sage, the dumpster." mike told his twin sister.

sage groans.

"come on. let's get to work." mike ordered.

the four teens got to work on finding dart, awaiting for dustin's arrival.

ten minutes have passed and dustin still hasn't showed up.

"stop being a baby and do it already!" mike said. "this is so disgusting. is this really necessary?" max asked, looking like she was about to gag.

dustin comes running in and looks at his friends confused. "what the hell's going on?" dustin asked. "what do you think? we're looking for dart." sage told the henderson boy.

lucas throws out bags of garbage out of the dumpster causing the teens to jump back.

"jesus!"

"oh!"

"ugh!"

"gross, lucas!"

the sinclair boy hops out of the dumpster effortlessly and lands on both of his feet.

"well, we'll, well. look who finally decided to show up." lucas comments. "after i drew the short straw. real convenient."

"you stink!" max comments and moves away from lucas, standing next to dustin. "hi, max," dustin smiles at the red-head. "hi?"

"dustin, don't scare her," sage mumbles and shakes her head. "where's will?" dustin asks, ignoring sage's comment. "he'll be here." mike says and sage nods in agreement.

"are you just gonna stand there?" lucas asks the henderson boy as he passed him a pole. "or you gonna help?"

the four teens then began to use their poles to pick at the trash bag, lucas using his foot.

"AH ROACH!" sage screams and drops the pole, jumping onto mike's back. "sage!"

"all living things, from complex mammals to single-celled organisms, instinctively respond to danger." mister clark speaks to the class. "expose a bacterium to a toxic chemical, and it will flee. or deploy some other defense mechanism."

sage stares at the empty seat in front of her, gulping at the non-existent sight of will.

"we're very much the same. when we encounter danger, our hearts start pounding." mister clark explains. "our palms start to sweat. these are the signs of the physical and emotional state we call . . . fear."

   "HEY, YOU'VE REACHED THE BYERS. we're sorry . . ." mike hangs up the phone and sighs. "nothing?" sage asks. "nothing." mike answers before taking her hand and dragging her away from the phone.

"anything?"

"we need to talk. av room. right now." mike tells his friends and goes up the stairs. "party members only." mike adds in when he sees max gathering her stuff.

"mike . . ." sage sighs. "come on, mike." dustin tries to say. "no! this is non-negotiable." mike tells him before walking inside.

"sorry, max," dustin apologizes. "sorry," lucas says after.

sage stares at max and sighs. "i'm so sorry, max," she tells her before following her friends inside the school and into the av room.

"will didn't want me to tell anyone, but on halloween night he and sage saw a sort of shadow in the sky." mike began to explain, him seated on the table next to sage. "a shadow?" lucas asks in confusion. "w-what kind of shadow?"

"i don't know. but it scared them."

sage nodded at mike's words basically saying what he's telling them is true.

"and if will and sage really have true sight . . . i mean, if they can really see into the upside down, maybe they saw the shadow again yesterday. did you?" mike continues before turning to his sister for an answer. "yeah, we did," sage replies.

"so that's why you guys were frozen like that?" dustin asks. "maybe," mike answers before his sister could. "can it hurt them? i mean, if this shadow thing isn't from our world . . ."

"i'm not sure. dustin?"

"well, if you're in another plane, you can't interact with the material plane, so theoretically, no, the shadow can't hurt him." dustin answers mike. "yeah, if that's even what's happening." sage cuts in. "this isn't dnd. this is real life."

"so what do we do?" lucas asks. "we acquire more knowledge. i'll go to will's after school. see what's going on. sage'll come with me cause she's apart of this whole true sight thing. you guys stay here and find dart." mike orders.

"dart? what's he gotta do with this?" dustin questions. "will and sage heard him in the upside down. i don't know how yet, but he's gotta be connected to all this. he's gotta be. if we find dart, maybe we can solve this thing." mike answers dustin then looks at his sister and friends.

"maybe we can help my sister and will."
