Hi bubsss!! To answer my question from last chapter... I don't think anyone got it right which is honestly kinda sad lmao but I'm aaaaaaa ravenclaw

I guess I just don't seem smart😭✋ jk but honestly I am a lot like a hufflepuff too, though idk why so many of y'all said Gryffindor I'm not brave at all🥲

Anyways, enjoy!!

(FUTURE A/N! hi there! this is me coming back and editing this chapter after finishing this ff. The first version of this chapter held a quite cringy scene of y/n singing haha and I still receive hate comments to this day about it so I decided to edit it out. The scene is still the same concept, just less cringy.)

The night after Mcgonagall announced the spring musical, I had a dream about my mother.

I had a dream that I ended up doing the musical, and that she came and saw it. That she was supportive, and truly cared for me.

I liked this version my mind created of her, though it was far from real.

But I guess it's true what people say. That dreams are your deepest desires. Mine was to see her. To hear her again, to touch her.

Life without a motherly figure was rough, harsh, and not too lovely. Who do you cry to when a boy breaks your heart? Who do you look towards for female help?

Pansy and Daphne could obviously help me, but only to a certain extent. They didn't birth me. They didn't raise me. They weren't there through my rough times... though all my rough times recently seemed to be about my mother anyways.

Sometimes I question why I even call her that anyway. It was more of a name now, not a meaning.

She didn't even deserve the name, truthfully.

I roll over on my side, as I decide I've thought enough about her, let her ruin my mood enough. For the day, at least.

The day goes by normally, not super quickly but not slow either. Pansy would ask me throughout the day if I was okay.. apparently my acting wasn't good.

Going to class and seeing friends definitely helped distract my thoughts about my dream, though any second I had to think, it was straight back to her.

As Pansy and I walk back to the common room, I decide there's no point in lying to her.

"I had a dream about her." I say quietly, hoping she knew what I meant.

There's a small moment of silence as her head slowly turns to look at me.

I didn't turn my head to look back at her, though I knew she had a slightly saddened look upon her face.

"A good one?" She asks, slight concern in her voice.

"It was good," I pause, searching for the right words. "It was good.. but it was fake."

She nods slightly, turning her head back to look straight ahead.

"Do you think you'll be okay?"

I hated the pity, really. I had such a wonderful life, though one bad thing had to happen and suddenly everyone I talk to thinks I'm not okay.

I didn't always hate it from Pansy, though. She knew I couldn't handle much of the baby voice and heartfelt conversation, so she avoided it. Though sometimes, it was needed.

"Nah, probably will cry for a few weeks." I joke, a smirk growing upon my lips.

She nudges my shoulder, as a small laugh leaves my lips. She can't help but laugh as well, knowing that she was pitying.

"You're not funny," she rolls her eyes.

"Oh yes I am," I grin pridefully at her, a laugh escaping my mouth soon after.

She quietly laughs with me, shaking her head slowly in denial.

We get to the common room soon after, walking through the portrait hole.

The common room is mostly empty, seeing as Pansy and I stayed at dinner for awhile after it ended.

My body freezes suddenly, biting my lip in thought.

"I think I'm gonna study," I say, looking over at Pansy.

She scrunches her nose in disgust, glancing at the couches before her eyes find their way back to mine.

"Don't stay up to late, okay?" She says sternly, though it's not much of a question.

"Okay, mother," I sneer at her, winking before I sit down on one of the couches.

I liked joking with her that she was filling my mother's place, though she never found it very funny.

She narrows her eyes at me, flipping me off before walking back to our dorm.

"Love you too!" I yell to her as she walks back to our dorm, laughing at her action.

I turn back to grab my book from my bag, a smile still on my face from laughing.

I study for the next 30 minutes or so, before my brain becomes to tired to process anything else.

My brows furrow slightly as I walk back to my dorm, suddenly hearing crying somewhere close.

I walk quickly to the noise, realizing it's coming from the first year girls' dorm.

My body freezes for a moment, contemplating whether I should knock, though I realize they wouldn't be able to hear me anyway as the child's sobs were extremely loud.

I slowly open the door, casting "lumos" so I'll be able to see in the dark room.

My heart drops once I see her, my eyes widening slightly.

In front of me sits a small 11 year old, her eyes puffy from crying, and her voice hoarse from yelling.

"Shhhh- shhh," I walk slowly over to her, sitting myself down into her bed and rubbing her back comfortingly. "What's wrong?"

Her sobs become uneven, as she tries to speak, though it's hard to understand.

"I m-miss my m-m-m-m" she stutters, her sobs controlling her breathing. "m-mummy," she finally gets out, sobbing even harder after.

I wrap my arms around her, my head resting on hers. Hearing her sobs, her shaky breath, her yells for her mother, it all absolutely broke me.

"It's gonna be okay, you'll see her soon," I tell her, showing her a warm smile.

I wasn't too sure how to comfort the kid quite honestly, but I decided to do what my mother used to do, hoping it would work.

I squeeze her slightly tighter, rubbing her arm comfortingly, as her sobs seem to get quieter.

The door suddenly opens loudly, a figure standing sternly behind it.

My wand lights up the room enough for me to see the figure, my eyes widening slightly as I realize who it is.

"Will that child shut up!?" Draco yells angrily, his brows furrowed and his body stiff.

Immediately after he speaks, the girls sobs become louder and faster.

"Draco-!" I yell angrily at him, as I realize I've lost all my progress.

His eyes widen as he stares at the sobbing child in my arms, realizing what he did.

I move so I'm sitting in front of her, blocking her view from the platinum blonde.

"It's okay! It's okay! He's was just joking! Isn't that funny? Ha-ha," I fake laugh, trying to comfort her though nothings working.

"Why did it do that!?" Draco yells, his body frozen as he stares at us.

"She isn't a bloody robot!" I yell back, annoyed by his presence.

I keep trying to comfort her, though it's obvious I'm panicking which doesn't help the case whatsoever.

"Do something!" Draco yells once again, glancing between the two of us.

"I'm trying!" I yell angrily back, only making the girl sob more.

"Well fu-"

I cut him off instantly, covering his mouth with my hand.

"Don't you dare say that word in front of them." I say sternly to him, glancing around at the other girls in their beds as well.

I take my hand off his mouth, quickly walking back over to the kid. He stands frozen, his lips still parted as his eyes seem to be glued onto me.

My mind rushes through things I can do to calm her down. One thing keeps coming to mind, though I don't want to, so I try to think of something else.

After a few moments of thinking, nothing comes to mind, and the child's sobs only grow.

I take a deep breath in, exhaling shakily as I think.

I had to do it, because there wasn't anything else I could think of. I had to do it, because it always seemed to work. I had to do it, I had to sing.

It was extremely hard to think with all the noise going on, though I needed a song to sing.

"Give me a song!" I panic, turning to look at Draco.

"Uh- Hogwarts Hogwarts Hoggy Warty-"

"No Draco!" I yell angrily, turning back to the girl.

My brain runs through musicals my mother used to sing to me, suddenly thinking of one that happened to be from Beauty and the Beast.

"Shhhh, I'm going to sing, okay?" I ask sweetly to the sobbing girl.

She nods slightly, a sigh of relief leaving my mouth. I half expected her to stop me, saying she didn't want me to, honestly.

"Ok...ok" I stutter, preparing myself though it sounded as if I was talking to her.

I clear my throat quietly, the lyrics running through my mind before I begin.

As I start singing it almost instantly hits me how fitting the song lyrics are to the situation we're in. They describe the feeling that is to be home and safe.

Her sobs suddenly get quieter, and slower encouraging me to sing more.

As I continue, a small smile begins to form on my lips.

Her sobs became more of just crying, her breath slowing down slightly, as she seems to be listening.

Once I reach the last few words, I gently push her to lay down again, to which she obliges to instantly. It was obvious by the lack of fight toward me that she was tired. Exhausted even.

It's when I sing the last words that her heavy eyelids shut fully, and her breath completely evens out.

I sit in silence for a moment, before glancing back at Draco.

His body was frozen, though his eyes move straight to look at mine. I feel as though I see tears in his eyes, though soon decide I'm imagining it.

"That was- that was really... beautiful." He whispers, glancing at the sleeping girl next to me.

I nod slowly, not really wanting to speak to him. I obviously wasn't going to go off at him again, but I haven't forgiven him yet. And the only way I could make that clear was to ignore him.

My gaze finds its way back to the girl, listening closely to make sure she was asleep.

I can hear Draco's footsteps as he slowly walks out of the room, though I don't turn my head to look at him.

I'm not letting myself accept his compliment, nor appreciate it. Though, if anyone else would've been the one to say it, I definitely would have taken it.

I sigh quietly, glancing one more time at the girl before slowly and quietly walking out of the room.

What a night.
