Y/N POV
I woke up to sunlight shining in my eyes. The first thing I thought of was my dream from last night. I laid there, trying to remember what it had been about. All I knew was that it had scared me.
My wings were spread out behind me. I sat up and stretched out my wings. They had been cramped from staying in the same position all night. I sat there in bed, seeing the shattered sunlight spread across my arms. I think my dream was about Jared. It slowly started to come back to me as my mind started to wake up.
It had been another dream about that night with Jared, but Alastor had tried to save me. He ran in between us and shoved him away, but Jared came at him with a gun. I don't remember what happened after that, the dream slowly had drifted away. I flopped back down in bed with my hand to my forehead, thinking about it gave me a headache.
As I was getting out of bed I thought to myself, "The dream must've been a combination of everything that happened yesterday. Jared can't bother me anymore, he's gone...forever." I walked into the bathroom, my wings feeling sore from sleeping on them funny. I groaned inwardly, "seems like today is gonna be fun." I walked into my closet and surveyed my clothes.
I pulled out some deep purple cargo pants and a black halter top. I had to have a shirt that allowed me to use my wings. I pulled on my black combat boots and decided to leave my white hair down. I surveyed my outfit in the mirror. The one thing I wasn't used to was this new hair. It was much different from my h/c hair.
I walked into my room, ready to make the bed, but found Nifty standing by the bed with it completely down. I looked down at her small form. "You didn't have to do that Nifty! I could've done it." She smiled up at me.
"Don't worry about it! I like cleaning!" She twirled around the room, "But it seems that you like things clean too."
I giggled as she bounced around, looking for a mess. She looked at me, "Oh, I forgot! Al told me to come to get you because he is out right now. Breakfast is ready!"
I smiled as she led me out of the room, but I was not ready to see Al again. This morning was going to be a little awkward. I'll just act as nothing happened. As she led me through the door, I made my wings disappear, they just got in the way of things. I don't know if Nifty was anything like Al, but her smile never disappeared either.
"Hey Nifty, how did you and Al meet?"
"He found me on the side of the road. I had been hurt by some other demons because I was small. So, he destroyed them and helped me to feel better! Know I go with him when he needs help."
I raised my eyebrows, surprised that Al would do that. "I didn't peg Al to do something like that."
"He's got a soft side to him, but no one ever really sees it. I hadn't seen it in a while until I met you. I think he's got a soft spot for you because he acts differently around you than other people."
I was about to question why, but she led me into the dining room. Al was nowhere in sight, but I saw Angel devouring some french toast, and Husk across from him, looking very grumpy. I walked over to Angel and sat next to him, pouring a glass of orange juice from the middle of the table. "Hey Ang! How was work?"
He looked up at me and rolled his eyes, "Just like work is always." He paused and then changed the subject, looking to Nifty. "But I heard that there were a lot of noises coming from the ballroom yesterday." He lifted his eyebrows at me, while Nifty grinned up at me.
"Oh, me and Al were just fighting yesterday. I was practicing the voice thing I told you about." I decided to leave the last little part out, he didn't need to know about that." Angel shrugged his shoulders but continued to have a suspicious look in his eye. I looked over at Husk across the table and then felt the ache in my wings. "Husk, how do you sleep with your wings? I don't really know how to sleep with them, and they got all cramped last night."
He looked a bit taken aback by my question. "I'm not drunk enough to deal with this shit yet." He then took a big drink of orange juice.
"What's wrong?"
I heard Nifty chirp up from the end of the table, "He's just mad because Al wants him to teach you how to use your wings better."
"Oh, you don't have to do that. Especially if you don't want to."
He looked at me and took another sip of his drink. I suspected he had put some vodka in it. "I owe Al another fuckin' favor, so I don't have a choice."
He got up to head to the back door. He paused in the doorway, "Are you coming or not?" He said it in a pissed-off voice. I hurried to get up, scraping the chair on the floor on the way. He flinched and then resumed his walk to the door. I groaned to myself, "Today was going to be fun."
We walked into the red light from the morning sun. He stopped in the middle of the grass and spread his wings out, a bottle of booze in his hand. I didn't even know when he had grabbed it. He motioned for me to summon my wings. I did and spread them out to their full length. He spit out his mouth full of booze. I heard him whisper, "Shit, those are big."
I looked at his wings and they seemed around 8 ft across. They were red with two black stripes down the feathers. In the stripes, were all the symbols from the suites in a card deck. I thought to myself, "He must really enjoy poker."
He set his drink on the ground and wiped his mouth. Before he started talking I spit out an apology, "Hey, I'm really sorry that Al is making you do this. I can see that you're pissed at me, but I know that Al gets what he wants, so we can just not do this and say we did."
He looked at me and raised an eyebrow, he chuckled. "I like your thinking kid, but he will find out, especially when you still don't know how to use your wings. I'm not doing a fucking thing right now anyway, it'll be good for me to see the sun for once."
I nodded and he examined my wings. "I can see that they are a little cramped up from the way you slept last night. How big are these fucking things usually?"
"I think they are about 30 feet across."
"Shit. I understand why you had problems sleeping with them. Since they are so big, I would suggest sleeping without them, but if you do, sleep on your stomach. Your side is fine but don't sleep on your back, they will fall asleep and be numb for a while. I did it when I first got here and I still remember how painful it was when I got the feeling back."
I nodded, not wanting to interrupt him. He seemed a little less grumpy now that he had put down his drink, but I didn't want to set him off again. "Now I want you to take off, I need to see how your wings react in the air."
"What if my wings cramp in the air because they are sore?"
"I think you just need to keep 'em moving for a little while."
I nodded and then launched off the ground. I flapped my wings, pushing myself further into the air. I looked down and found that I was around the roof of the hotel. I yelled down to him, "Is that good?!"
He looked up at me from the ground, looking small. "Fly around a bit kid! I need more to work with than you just jumping into the air!"
I flew around a little bit, doing fast turns and going upside down. I figured it was enough, so I went through one more loop and then dived towards the ground, facefirst. Right before I hit the ground, I flipped around and landed hard on the ground. "How was that?" I said, breathing hard.
He leaned against the tree, with the bottle in his crossed arms. "Your landings were rough, but you looked really fast in the air. Al wants you to learn how to protect yourself while flying. If you keep taking off and landing like that, then you're gonna rough up your joints."
We worked on flying for a few more hours. By we, I mean he watched me do it, and then I tried to recreate what he was talking about. I once again dove head-first to the ground. Trying to recreate what Husk had said earlier, I flipped around and flew up just a little bit. He said this would help my landing. I landed on the ground and looked over to Husk leaning against the tree. Suprisingly, he had a small smile on his face.
"How was that? Did I do the landing right?"
"Good job kid, that was the best landing you've done all day." I looked around the yard with my hands on my waist, and saw Al standing by the back door.
"Oh, hey Al! Sorry I didn't see you."
"That was amazing flying my dear. How was Husk?"
I looked over to the tree and saw Husk take a swig of his drink. "He was great!"
He looked over to Husk and nodded his head towards him, "Thanks for helping her today Husk! I'm sorry to interrupt, but I found some territory that will be easy pickings. So, I will be stealing her away."
He looked over at Al, the smile now gone from his face. "She's all yours." As I was walking away, I realized that Husk probably didn't like Al too much. Al put his arm across my shoulders and started walking me back to the hotel. I broke away from his hold and turned back towards Husk. "Thank you, Husk, I really appreciate you helping me today."
He looked up from the ground and back at me. He didn't say anything, but he tipped his bottle to me. I took that as his response and turned back towards Al. "So, you said something about territory?"
He walked me into the hotel and teleported us into the library. "Well, I was scoping out Valentino's territory today and found a big chunk of land. He doesn't use it much, and only one of his 'halls' are there. It would be a good place for you to hit."
"When should I do it?"
He looked out the library windows towards the midday sun. "I know it's still the afternoon, but no one will be expecting it now." He took something out from his coat and extended it towards me. I reached out and grabbed it. "What's this?" I unfolded the material and found it to be a long black robe.
"I thought that you needed to make yourself look intimidating while destroying parts of the city. You do look terrifying in your rage form, but I thought this would do the trick for you." He looked down into my eyes.
"Thank you Al! You didn't have to."
"Of course I did! Haha! Shall we go to his territory now?" He extended his arm to me. I took his arm in my left hand and nodded. Suddenly, my eyes were faced with a completely different setting. I let go of his arm to put on the hood. I swung it around my shoulders and tied it at the neck. I lifted my hands to my hood and pulled it above my head. I felt a small smile spread across my face "Where should I start?"
