The wind was blowing incredibly hard that night, so Felix had decided to wear his black and yellow scarf before heading out. He had a meeting with Jisung planned, as the ladder had asked him if he could go and see with him the Slytherins train.
Felix had had his doubts about the idea because he obviously knew that the team would never allow them to seat down on the stands and watch their practices peacefully, and he also was not sure on why the friend really wanted to go see them.
"It's to help Gryffindor, of course", had replied Jisung nonchalantly when Felix had asked him. "Might be able to snatch a few handy tricks, or learn about their strategies. We're basically doing a favor to everybody".
"Yes, but they still won't let us in" had objected the Hufflepuff, still not convinced.
"It'll be dark, and we'll make sure to come and leave unnoticed. Besides, it'll be a great change of pace. Doing something exciting, for a change!"
And so there he was, waiting in the Hall for the friend to arrive. Felix felt quite stupid, standing still in the giant room, but it was not like he could do something about it.
After awhile, Jisung finally came rushing downstairs. "Sorry I'm late!", he half-yelled as he stopped abruptly before the Hufflepuff.
Felix rolled his eyes. "No fuss Ji, it's okay. Now shall we get going?"
"Sure!", exclaimed the Gryffindor.
"I still don't get why you want to go and see the Slyths play so bad though", continued Felix as the two of them started walking towards the pitch.
"It's just to help the team", answered Jisung, a big smile still in display on his face.
Felix immediately decided to let go of the topic: he wasn't going to get much out of Jisung anyway.
So they simply strolled side to side in silence, until they reached the borders of the pitch. It was still empty, but one of the changing rooms had its lights turned on. "They must be in there", whispered Jisung. "We've made it just in time. Come".
He led Felix to a small nuck next to the stands, hidden from most of the lights that lit the pitch. "No one will notice us whilst we're here", he was telling the friend. "It's too well-hidden, but we still can see pretty well".
Felix sat beside him, still wondering why he had agreed on coming with Jisung. It's because he's your friend and you had nothing else to do to begin with, reminded him a little voice inside his head. He smiled to himself: that was indeed very true.
"Uh uh, they're out!", Jisung elbowed him while pointing at the center of the pitch: there stood the seven members of the team.
Felix watched intrested as they got on their brooms and sped off towards the night sky โ for him, that was always the most fascinating part.
But the Slytherins were not there to look fascinating to the eyes of the watchers (also because they had no idea that there were watchers), so they bagan immediately with their usual warm-up.
It was very different from the one of the Hufflepuffs, noticed Felix, who'd already gone to watch his House's team train many times: instead of doing the normal exercises of Quaffle-passing and Bludgers-skipping, the seven players took position to form a triangle-shaped formation, and started moving in unison. It looked as if everyone was following the one with the guy positioned at the high vertex of the triangle (most likely the capitain), as he would suddenly speed up or slow down, sweep left or right, go up or do an aerial back-flip, copied by the rest of the team, who would execute his movements identically and in perfect synchronization. They were flying from one end to the other of the pitch โ then, once they'd reach them, the capitain would suddenly turn back and lead the exact same exercise all over again, and that for many consecutive times.
At first it'd strucked Felix as really weird and unhelpful, but after looking carefully for awhile the boy finally realized what the ultimate goal was: "They're working on their speed, aren't they?" he asked, though he was pretty sure about the answer. "And also on their stability! Have you seen one go out of trajectory yet?"
"Nope" was the weak reply of the friend. He looked totally stunned, which the Hufflepuff could comprehend: the Slytherins were in fact showing nothing but their very best that day in practice โ and it was only the begging of the session!
A few minutes later, a high-pitched whistle blowed, and the team divided, at last starting to work on their solo duties.
What Felix made out to be the two Beaters took the center of the pitch. The Keeper flew all the way to the three rings on the left, while the Chasers stopped at the opposite end โ Felix studied the plan: it was actually pretty clever.
Normally, teams would divide into the different positions (chasers on one hand trowing Quaffles at the Keeper, and Beaters on the other passing the Bludgers to one another); but with this method one could actually train just like they would play during a match: the chasers, in fact, had to first face the tough and strong throws of the Beaters, before trying to sign, all while sticking close to each other in case the one holding the Quaffle decided to pass it to someone else โ Felix made a note in his head to refer everything to Woojin once he got back to the castle: the strategy was actually genius, and he was sure that pretty much any team would have benefited from training like that.
The only person sticking out from the strict formation was a small figure soaring above all of the members in the pitch: it was undoubtedly the quickest and most flexible player Felix had ever seen. The control he had over his body and broom โ which basically could be considered as a whole โ was simply unbelievable.
"I didn't remember Slytherin have such a good Seeker", he told Jisung, who he noticed was also staring at the guy up in the sky.
"Lee Minho", informed him the Gryffindor. Felix could not really describe the tone of his friend's voice. "He's been on the team for awhile actually, but you ain't totally wrong โ he's got even better!"
Their conversation was suddenly interrupted by a scream coming from one of the Chasers: "Lee, I'm freeing the Snitch!"
"On it!" replied the Seeker, so up above his voice was almost unaudible. The boy dived impeccably the moment the golden ball left the chaser's hands, and reached it in basically no time. Next thing Felix knew, he was holding it in his hands.
"Nice capture Lee!" congratulated on of the Beaters, kicking one of the two Bludgers hard in the direction of the Keeper. The ladder, who was not expecting it, did a last-second back flip to avoid it and cursed back at the guy. "But you might want to leave it alone for longer this sunday", continued the Beater nevertheless, completely unbothered by the Keeper's words. "Brings away all of the fun, catching it this quickly".
"As you please", answered the Seeker, letting go of the ball, which disappeared the moment right after. Felix followed the glare of Lee Minho, who had it fixed on a spot near the teachers' stands: and there the Hufflepuff was able to spot a glimmery light. It was incredible how fast the Slytherin could catch the little ball's movements.
"I'll have fun confusing the other Seeker!" concluded the Minho, lazily reaching over to seal the Snitch in his left hand.
"Confusing people as a lifestyle!" laughed the one Felix had labeled as the capitain. "C'mon team, let's get going!"
And so they did. The Hufflepuff watched in awe as the Slytherins went back to their normal trainings. They were so good, he was not so sure anymore that Gryffindors could actually beat them on that sunday's match.
"They're good ay?" stated Jisung after a while.
Felix nodded. "Very good, I should add", he replied. "Sorry Ji, but I don't really think you can beat them".
Jisung didn't even seem to have heard him. "They're incredible", he said instead. His gaze was fixed towards the Seeker.
"Their Seeker especially", agreed the Hufflepuff. Jisung just nodded, avoiding to make eye-contact.
The two continued to watch the trainings as they went on, occasionally making comments about the players, the movements or the strategies.
It was getting pretty late when, at last, the leader blew a very loud whistle and grouped the whole team at the center of the pitch.
The ladder then started talking, but in a softer way than he had done during training. Felix tried hard to catch his words, but the whole team was just too far for him to hear them.
The boy simply settled on staring at them, and watched as one of the Beaters swung his bat into thin air, makinng the whole team laugh. The Seeker even did a back flip โ it was the usual post-training heads-up, he assumed.
"We're leaving when they enter the changing rooms", reminded him Jisung. "We don't wanna get caught..."
But Felix was not paying attention to his words anymore. He'd gone back to observing the seven members. Only thing was...
"Shit Ji, they saw us!", he screamed. He felt like he was actually about to panick. The Slytherins would've beaten them up to death.
"Oh no", murmured Jisung, shaking on his side. "Oh no, oh no".
"WE'RE GONNA DIE!" Felix was not even being dramatic anymore โ he was seriously too scared to even decide to act like that.
"Oh no oh no oh no", just continued Jisung. Felix looked back to where he was staring: Lee Minho had basically already reached them.
