Chan was hurrying down the platform, a light white mist surrounding his body. Occasionally, someone would stop off and congratulate him on his newest achievement:
"Well done Chan โ Head Boy! Geez, whish I was that good" was just saying a fellow Gryffindor, who the newly chosen Head Boy thanked with a warm smile on his face.
Overall, Chan felt satisfied: he had spent a great summer in his hometown with his family, he'd got away with a few short-term relationships and had had lots of time to chat with his best friend, Kim Wonpil, who had also been chosen as Head Boy.
The two had talked a lot about their future, too. They were about to sart their very last year at Hogwarts โ something that still felt surreal to the both of them, and that was yet very true.
Wonpil seemed to have his ideas well sorted out: had he gotten full marks on his Potion's N.E.W.T., he would have opened a little apothecary in Diagon Alley, a dream he'd always had and that his family totally approved.
He โ Chan โ on the other hand, was not sure that he really wanted to do what his family had thought would fit him best: a job at the Ministry, that would've definitely been well-paid and that was definitely within his reach, did not feel like the right thing for him: he was a Gryffindor after all, he enjoyed the thrill of adventure; a stationary job like that of a Ministry employee would've bored him to death.
Fighting off those bad thoughts, he focused on his research, which simply consisted in finding Wonpil. The two had decided to meet directly at the platform, which had seemed like a pretty good idea at the time, but that Chan was starting to regret due to the extremely packed platform the wizarding train would be setting off from.
"Chan!" yelled a voice, and the Gryffindor was made to look back by politenes, even though he knew the voice didn't belong to the friend.
A dark-haired boy with a green and silver uniform waved at him. Chan smiled immediately. "Minho! Hi! How was your summer?"
The two hugged. Chan could not believe his eyes: Minho had gotten even taller, his shoulders wider, and his facial traits lookes as if he'd become a much more mature man.
"It was pretty good, thank you. Dad and I even went camping. It was nice! I also got to practice a few new moves. Cannot wait to show you, maybe during the first match" Minho winked, and Chan couldn't help but get a little worried: the Slytherin Seeker was known to be an absolute natural when it came to Quidditch; and Chan, being in his House's Team himself (as the leader!) knew that almost too well.
"Looking forward to it" he replied, hoping to sound as nonchalant as possible. "See you around then? I really gotta go now. You know, you could say I am on some sort of Wonpil-hunt thing".
"Sure mate" Minho smiled. "Have a great one!", and he disappeared in the pearly mist.
Starting to look around yet another time, Chan finally spotted a handful of light brown locks getting onto the already full train, so he sprinted towards that wagon and finally managed to reach the friend.
"Wonpil! Mate!" he screamed to make himself heard over the chatting atmosphere that filled the space. "Where've you been? I swear I've been looking for you for almost an hour!"
"Uh, hi Channie", the other Head Boy smiled, looking a bit guilty. "I've only just arrived, I saw how packed it was and thought it a great idea to meet on the train".
"Yeah, nevermind that now. I think we should get going though; you know, instructing new Prefects, starting to patroll the whole train and stuff", reasoned the Gryffindor.
"Yeah, you're right" Wonpil adressed the whole place with a quick glance and added: "this will be our last time doing so. As Head Boys. I will really miss this".
"You can say so", Chan's voice was warm and soft, but you could tell it was also filled with sadness. "Alright, let's go".
And the two walked away.
Jisung sighed. "How, HOW can someone look that ethereal at 8am in the moring, you tell me", he complained with y/n, his best friend.
"Uhh, i don't know? C'mon Sungie, get going, or else he might notice us two staring like creepy stalkers", she replied flatly, pushing the friend slightly to make him move. "Honestly though, bold of me to assume your crush would've calmed down through the years".
"Extremely bold of you, if you ask me", specified Jisung, moving along to follow the friend. "He's too perfect. I whish he knew I existed".
"Who?" suddenly asked a voice, that made the Gryffindors jump with fear.
Y/n was the one to recover more quickly. "Felix! You gave me a heart attack, I swear to God! Never, never do that again!"
"Oopsie", Felix giggled. "I'm sorry I scared you, I just wanted to check on how you've been getting on".
"It's all good, I guess. My summer was pretty uneventful" y/n shrugged her shoulders. "You should ask Sungie though, he was the one who went to Japan, that lucky dumbass!"
Jisung could see Felix's eyes widen. "Japan? You mean that long narrow island where raw fish is eaten?"
Jisung smiled to himself. "Yeah? I didn't really have sushi though, we went for things we were more used to like rice an-"
"Nice, but unintresting" cut off y/n. "How was yours, Felix? Did you go anywhere nice?"
The blonde guy smiled. "Yes! I visited Ireland; it was good, I even got to see the magical bridge that links it to Scotland โ it's seriously impressing, it's a real giant who built it and he kinda works there too so..."
"A real giant?" asked Jisung in disbielief. "That sounds so amazing! I get now why my parents have never brought me there..."
"Yes, and as for that Sungie, they are coming here... we'd better hurry up" suggested y/n, so the trio quickly got on the train and reached the wagon where they'd left their trunks.
"Shall we get a compartment? Can I stay with you?" asked Felix shyly.
"Of course you can" replied y/n, "and I think you should be really getting on now. I'll see you in a bit!"
"Why? Where is she going?" inquired Felix, confused.
"Didn't you notice?" Jisung looked even more puzzled than the friend. "She got a badge! She was made Prefect!"
Y/n hurried towards the Prefects' compartment. She originally didn't know where it was, so she'd had to ask a sixth year Ravenclaw and fellow Prefect, who she was now following closely. "Fifth years are in here, you've arrived", the Ravenclaw informed her to then continue her way to her compartment.
Thanking her fleebly, y/n peered cautiosly into the compartment, only to meet with the other newly chosen Prefects. Apparently, she was the only one missing.
"I'm really sorry" she apologized. "I was having a hard time figuring where the meeting was at. I hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long".
She sat besides the Slytherin's male Prefect, who was watching (maybe judging?) her with attention, which made y/n feel extremely uncomfortable, even more than when she'd first entered.
"No fuss y/n, no fuss" said Chan, and encouraging smile with dimples on full display on his face. "I've also just come, perharps we could say we Gryffindors are meant to be late".
The Head Boy winked, and the whole compartment was instantly filled with giggles. If she hadn't been at the centre of the scene, y/n would've well understood all the three girls, completely whipped by Chan's looks; but now that everyone was focusing on the two, all she wished for was for the three of them to stop.
"As if that's something to be proud of..." muttered the Slytherin sat next to y/n.
The girl looked at his profile, not with anger but rather with curiosity. In the end, she recognized him as Kim Seungmin, a boy who was not necessairly hated, but was not loved either.
Seungmin had an odd personality; if y/n'd had to describe him with a word, it would've been blunt. He was not afraid to say his opinion out loud, but the problem was that most of the time those opinions weren't exactly postitive or constructive.
Students had just ended up as labeling him as arrogant and childish, but y/n, who knew better than that, was now basically staring at him, trying to figure out where all that coldness came from: after all, Jisung himself had been subjected to similar critics due to his wealthy origins, but in the end he'd just turned out to be an innocent, inoffensive ball of fluff.
Seungmin looked back at her, lifting his left eyebrow slightly, but not making any comment.
Neither did y/n.
The following fifteen minutes were spent in utmost silence, and all the fifth years let Chan explain into detail everything that being a Prefect entailed. After the Head Boy had instructed them thouroughly on their to-be commitment, the eight fifth-years were sent off to their first patrolling session.
Hurrying up to join the other Gryffindor Prefect, y/n shot a last glance towards Seungmin. The boy had intrigued her, and she was now more determined than ever to discover what was hiding under that apparent icyness.
