It had been one of those days where the tension between Y/N and Mattheo hung thick in the air. The argument had started over something stupidโMattheo's insistence that she should've gone with him to a party instead of staying in to read. But what had really irked Y/N was his dismissive attitude about her interests, as if they weren't important. After all, she wasn't just a "bored" teenager to him. She was strong, independent, and had a mind of her own.
"You always shut me out, Y/N," Mattheo snapped, his voice cold. "I just want you to have some fun."
Y/N had snapped right back. "You think I don't have fun? You think my life revolves around you and your stupid parties?"
The tension reached a boiling point, and Y/N stormed off to her room, slamming the door behind her. Mattheo was right behind her, but she was already too far gone in her frustration.
It was then that she spotted his wallet sitting innocently on the desk. A mischievous grin spread across her face. "Fine," she muttered to herself. "If he wants to take things lightly, I'll remind him who's really in control here."
She grabbed Mattheo's wallet, slipping it into her pocket. With a swift wave of her hand, the door to his room shut behind her as she walked out.
It was a few hours later when Mattheo realized his wallet was gone. He returned to his room, searching frantically through his things, growing more and more irritated. He went to find Y/N, only to discover she was nowhere to be found.
It wasn't until he received a text message from her that he realized what had happened.
I went shopping. Spent $500 on books. Hope you don't mind.
Mattheo was confused at first. Books? What kind of punishment was this?
He stormed into the living room, finding Y/N lounging on the couch with a pile of books stacked next to her. Some were thick fantasy novels, others were historical mysteries, and a few were even filled with obscure magical knowledge that Mattheo knew Y/N had been eyeing for a while.
Y/N looked up with a smirk. "I've always wanted these books. But you know, you didn't give me any other way to spend my day."
Mattheo's jaw tightened. "You took my wallet... to buy books?"
Y/N shrugged, flipping through one of her new acquisitions. "Oh, don't worry, Mattheo. They'll help me grow as a person. Something I know you care so deeply about."
"Y/N, this is ridiculous. You can't just go around stealing my stuff because we argue."
"I didn't steal anything. I just borrowed it for a little bit," she teased, looking up from her book. "You should be proud, really. You helped fund my personal growth."
Mattheo's expression darkened, though there was a glimmer of amusement in his eyes. He crossed his arms, his voice low. "And if I want to get it back?"
Y/N tilted her head, feigning innocence. "Well, I guess you could buy me a lot of dinners, but I'm not sure you'd want to do that, considering how this all started."
Mattheo let out a long breath, the frustration still simmering beneath the surface, but then his lips curled into a grin. "You're unbelievable."
"And you're lucky," Y/N said sweetly, "because now I'll have something to do while I think about what a jerk you were."
Mattheo moved toward her, grabbing a book from the pile. "You're seriously impossible."
Y/N chuckled. "I know. But you love it."
She was right, of course. Even as Mattheo tried to hide his smile, he couldn't stay mad at her for long. After all, she had a way of making punishment feel like the most fun he could have.
"Fine, you win," Mattheo muttered. "But next time, you'll be the one buying me dinner."
"Deal," Y/N said with a grin, returning to her books. "But don't think I won't hold you to it."
After a beat of silence, Mattheo's gaze softened, and without warning, he took a step toward Y/N. The playful edge in his voice was gone, replaced by something more intense as he closed the distance between them.
"You're lucky I'm into this kind of thing," he muttered, his fingers gently brushing her chin, tilting her head back.
Y/N raised an eyebrow, not backing down. "What are you going to do about it, Riddle?" she teased, her lips curving into a slight smirk.
Before she could react further, Mattheo kissed herโhard and full of determination. His hands gripped her waist, pulling her closer, until she could feel the heat radiating off his body. The kiss deepened quickly, the kind of kiss that was more than just a show of affection. It was raw, filled with that familiar intensity, that fire only they shared.
He pulled back, his lips brushing against hers as he spoke, his voice low and rough. "You think you can get away with this?" His breath ghosted over her skin, a wicked grin curling on his face. "You'll be the one paying for this little stunt."
Y/N's heart raced, a flutter of excitement sparking in her chest. "What are you planning to do, Mattheo?" she asked, her voice steady despite the tension that thrummed between them.
His eyes darkened with mischief. "I'll make sure you won't be walking for the next 2-3 business days," he growled, his hand snaking around her back, pulling her flush against him.
Y/N's breath hitched, her pulse quickening. She knew exactly what he meant. She knew Mattheo well enough to understand that when he said something like that, he meant every word.
"Then you better be ready to take responsibility," she whispered against his lips, feeling the spark of excitement between them.
Without another word, Mattheo kissed her again, this time more urgently, as if to make sure she understood that he wasn't going to let her go without a proper consequence for messing with him. The heat between them was undeniable, and it wasn't long before they were lost in each other, their earlier argument forgotten in the rush of passion that followed.
Later, as they lay tangled together, Mattheo pressed a soft kiss to her forehead, his voice low and playful. "Next time, you won't be so quick to steal my wallet," he teased, still grinning.
Y/N chuckled, her fingers tracing the outline of his jaw. "We'll see about that, Riddle," she murmured, already thinking of ways to keep him on his toes.
