One chilly evening, Y/N and Mattheo sat on the couch in his private dorm, the warmth from the fire crackling softly as it illuminated the room. Y/N leaned against him, her head resting on his shoulder, both of them lost in the peaceful silence. The idea had been floating around for weeks, but tonight it felt right.
"Mattheo," Y/N started, her voice a little hesitant but filled with excitement. "I was thinking... we should get a pet."
He raised an eyebrow, looking at her with that mischievous grin she loved so much. "A pet? What, like a cat or a dog?"
"Not a dog," Y/N replied quickly, shaking her head. "Too much energy for our lifestyle, don't you think? I was thinking something a bit more... unusual."
Mattheo's curiosity piqued. "Unusual, huh? What do you have in mind?"
Y/N grinned, her eyes lighting up with mischief. "A snake."
He stared at her for a moment, trying to figure out if she was joking. "A snake?" he repeated. "Really?"
"Yeah! A snake could be perfect for us. They're low maintenance, and I've always wanted one. Plus, I know you secretly think they're cool." Y/N's eyes sparkled with playful determination.
Mattheo chuckled, shaking his head. "I thought you were going to suggest something like a hamster. But a snake?" He pulled her closer, his hands resting on her hips. "I'm not complaining, just... surprised."
"I'm serious!" Y/N giggled. "We can get a cute, little one, like a ball python. They're easy to take care of. And I promise, I'll be the one to handle all the feeding and cleaning."
"Alright, alright," Mattheo said, his grin widening. "If it makes you happy. But you'll have to teach me how to take care of it. I don't know the first thing about snakes."
"Deal!" Y/N laughed. "But just wait, I'm going to get us the best little snake. It's going to be our pet."
The next day, Y/N and Mattheo ventured to a magical pet shop, where exotic creatures roamed freely, and cages lined the walls. The moment Y/N set eyes on a small, sleek ball python with soft, caramel-colored scales, she knew it was the one. Mattheo was a little hesitant at first, but after watching the snake flick its tongue out curiously, he was hooked.
"We'll name it Linguini," Y/N decided, smirking at Mattheo's bewildered expression.
"Linguini? Really?" he asked with an amused laugh.
"Yep. It's perfect," Y/N said, her grin never fading.
Back in their dorm, they made a small cozy home for Linguini in a glass enclosure near the window. Y/N arranged branches for him to climb, a soft bed of leaves, and a warm heating pad for comfort. She made sure Linguini had everything he needed while Mattheo looked on, still adjusting to the idea of sharing their lives with a snake.
As the days passed, Mattheo found himself growing fond of the little creature. He'd help Y/N with feeding and sometimes sit quietly, watching Linguini slither around the room. There was something strangely calming about the snake's graceful movements, and it seemed to add a peaceful presence to their dorm.
Soon, Linguini became a regular part of their routine, and Mattheo couldn't deny that having a pet, especially one as low-maintenance as a snake, was actually pretty nice.
One evening, after a long day, Mattheo came back to their room and smiled softly at Y/N, who was sitting cross-legged on the floor, letting Linguini crawl over her. "You were right," he said, his voice full of affection. "He's not so bad after all."
Y/N grinned, looking up at him. "I knew you'd come around."
And so, with their new pet and the shared moments of quiet enjoyment, Y/N and Mattheo's little family grew, bringing them even closer together.
