Y/N couldn't help but feel her blood boil when she walked into the bookstore and saw the Colleen Hoover books stacked on the front table, just waiting to be picked up by unsuspecting readers. She wasn't even sure how it had happened, but somehow the books had become a massive trend at Hogwarts, especially among her classmates. The last thing she wanted was to be caught with one in her hands.
The boys were all scattered around the store, each browsing different aisles. Y/N knew they wouldn't understand why the sight of the Colleen Hoover books made her feel physically sick. She had read one onceβa mistake she would never make againβand after finishing it, she felt like she needed to wash her mind with something much less toxic. The stories were filled with twisted relationships that glorified toxic behavior, abuse, and manipulation under the guise of romance. It felt like domestic violence wrapped in glitter and sold as love.
"Why are you staring at that stack like it's a ticking time bomb?" Theo asked, walking up behind her, his voice teasing but laced with curiosity.
Y/N shot him a quick glance before quickly reaching out, grabbing a couple of the books, and shoving them behind a row of more acceptable titles. She didn't want to explain why she hated them so much, but it felt like she had to. The only problem was, every time she tried, it sounded like an overreaction.
Draco walked over, eyeing her carefully. "What's going on, Kane? You've been acting weird since we walked in here."
Enzo, overhearing their conversation, grinned and chimed in, "Is this about those Colleen Hoover books?"
Y/N crossed her arms tightly, her eyes narrowing as she took a breath. "I hate them. They're awful. It's like someone decided to take domestic violence and romance, have them make a baby, and then become an author."
Blaise, who had been glancing at a few books from the fantasy section, let out a snort. "Seriously? That bad?"
"Yes," Y/N snapped, her voice a little sharper than intended. "The books romanticize abusive relationships, gaslighting, manipulation, and toxic love. It makes you think that that kind of stuff is normal, that it's acceptable. And it's not."
Mattheo, who had been quiet up until now, raised an eyebrow, his expression a little more thoughtful than usual. "So, it's not just the over-the-top drama?" he asked, genuinely trying to understand.
"No," Y/N replied firmly, shaking her head. "It's not about the drama. It's about how it makes abuse look like something romantic and desirable. It's toxic, and I refuse to be part of it."
The group went silent for a moment, each of them processing what Y/N had just said. Enzo was the first to break the silence, his face softening.
"I get it now," he said, nodding. "You're right. I've seen the way people talk about those books like they're some kind of love story, but it's messed up if you really think about it."
Theo added, "I always thought the books were just dramatic, but now that you've said it, I can see how it could mess with someone's idea of what a healthy relationship looks like."
Draco was surprisingly quiet, his usual smirk replaced by a more serious look. "You've got a point. No one should be looking up to those kinds of relationships."
Blaise shrugged but seemed to soften his teasing tone. "Fair enough. I still don't get why you hid them, though."
Y/N let out a sigh, feeling a weight lift off her chest. "I just didn't want to be reminded of how disgusting they are. And maybe I'm a little tired of pretending to be okay with them being everywhere."
"Well, at least you don't have to hide them anymore," Mattheo said with a small smile, glancing at the shelf where she had hidden the books. "We understand now."
Y/N relaxed, a small smile tugging at her lips. She didn't need to explain herself any further. Her friends had her back, even if they didn't totally understand her passion about it. That was enough for her.
"Let's just get out of here before I feel the urge to hide more books," Y/N joked, feeling a little lighter.
The group laughed, nodding in agreement, and they headed toward the exitβno more Hoover books in sight.
