"Alright, I need some answers right now, Minho. Since when were you an angel?!" Hyunjin said as he paced across the room. Minho and Chan were sitting in an armchair with Minho laid against Chan's chest.
"I've always been an angel, I just didn't know it until after I met my mom. She told me all about my duties and things like that. The job that Elena assigned me as an Angel of Life is to help Lilith protect the Fields, and my job as an Angel of Death is to help souls find their way to my mother." Minho explained.
"So you're basically a grim reaper." Jisung pointed out.
Minho shook his head. "Not really. The thing that you guys refer to as the 'grim reaper' is actually just another Angel of Death. He finds the souls and brings them to me, and then I guide them to the afterlife so my mom can either send them to the underworld or to their paradise."
"But how do you do it? You're always with someone else and no one's seen you do it." Hyunjin questioned.
Minho shrugged. "It's not really easy to explain. It's almost like I'm in three places at once. I'm right here in front of you, but I'm also in the Fields and guiding souls to the Land of the Dead."
Jisung then looked confused and pointed to Minho's neck. "What's that, Minho?"
Minho looked down and looked confused. Peeking out of his robes was a single word. Just a simple 'I am' in very familiar handwriting.
Minho gasped and immediately pulled his collar down further, staring at the words. 'I am. How can I help you?
Chan saw the words and his eyes widened, staring at the familiar words. The fireborn then noticed words on his arm and pulled his sleeve up to reveal the words 'You... you're magic like me?' in Minho's neat handwriting. The words were gold, just like Minho's were.
Minho and Chan met eyes. "We... we're soulmates?" Chan said, disbelief evident on his face.
"We're soulmates!" Minho shouted, jumping up from the chair in excitement.
Chan ran his fingers through his hair. "We're soulmates." He said incredulously.
Minho felt a small tingle on his lower stomach, so he pulled his shirt up to reveal silver words on his stomach.
'Let's get out of here before those idiots start fighting.' was what was written and Minho looked at Hyunjin, who also started looking for words. Hyunjin found his on his shoulder. They were also silver and said, 'I'm Minho."
Hyunjin looked at Minho with wide eyes. "I knew it! I knew there was no way we weren't platonic soulmates!"
Minho grinned when he felt Chan's arms wrap around his waist. Chan gently set his chin on the top of his lover's head and Minho could feel the puff of air the fireborn let out.
"We're soulmates." Chan whispered once more, a feeling of pure euphoria washing over him.
Minho then started looking all over his body to see if there were more words, finding two more. On his lower back were the words 'Hi, baby.' in a royal blue, which had to be his mother.
And on the inside of his arm, just below his elbow were the words 'Yeah! I'm big man Felix!'
Minho burst into tears at the sight of them, going limp in Chan's arms. Felix was his soulmate. His youngest brother was his familial soulmate, and Minho couldn't do anything to save him.
Chan frowned and sat back down in the couch, gently bringing Minho down with him. The fireborn held Minho gently, giving him time to come back down to Earth.
"It's going to be okay, Love. We'll save him, I promise." Chan whispered into Minho's ear. Minho let out a few deep breaths to calm himself down.
"They won't hurt him any more, Minho. I'll make sure of it." Chan promised, gently kissing the top of Minho's head. Minho just let out a shuddering breath as he felt the warmth of his betrothed.

Minho never expected to see Felix so soon, and he certainly never wanted to see his little brother in this condition again.
Felix showed up at the castle covered in cuts and bruises and he was swaying, barely awake. He looked horrible, and in that moment, all Minho could feel was worry for his little brother, and burning anger for his father.
"They... they're gonna kill you if you don't give him what he wants." Felix said in his half-asleep state. "I don't want you to die."
Minho's anger melted away into just worry for his youngest brother. "I'm not going to die, Felix. No one's going to die on my watch."
Minho held Felix as tight as he could without aggravating his wounds. He was slowly healing the boy, making sure he didn't hurt his little brother.
Minho watched as Felix slowly fell asleep. "I love you, Felix." He whispered once Felix's breath evened out.
The next morning, Minho woke up to Felix gone and screaming coming from outside his bedroom window. When he went up to the window, he was shocked to see Korell, Felicity, Raina, and Ronnie strolling through the kingdom. Businesses and homes were on fire and people were running in the opposite direction.
Minho's eyes widened when he saw Felix walking behind Felicity. The boy looked terrified.
Minho immediately ran over to the bed, shaking Chan awake. The fireborn awoke with a start and immediately jumped out of bed when he saw the panicked look on Minho's face. He understood right away what was happening when he heard the screams.
The two of them rushed out of the bedroom, passing others preparing to fight. The allet met his sisters at the doors of the palace, noting that they looked just as scared as he felt.
As much as they tried to portray calmness, they were terrified of Korell. He was stronger than all of them combined. The only person who came close to his power was Minho, and Korell had a weapon that could kill Minho.
Minho pushed the doors open just as Korell and the others arrived at the palace gates.
"Minho, you already know what I'm here for." Korell said, opening his arms wide as if he was expecting a hug.
Minho glared angrily. How dare this man saunter into his kingdom, destroying it, and demand anything? How dare he think he deserved anything after all he'd done to Karl's family?
The fight happened in a blur. One second, Minho was fighting Felicity and the next he was on the ground, watching as Felix aimed an arrow at Chan.
"Do it, Felix! Shoot!" Korell shouted. Felix flinched and the arrow shot out of the bow. Minho let out a scream, running towards his lover.
But, the arrow never hit Chan.
"Seungmin!" Chan shouted as the enderman boy fell to the ground.
Chan fell to his knees beside the younger, bringing his head into his lap. Minho ran over and set his hand on Seungmin's shoulder, trying to heal him. It didn't work.
"It's not going to work. It's poison. You can only heal injuries." Seungmin said weakly. Minho growled and jumped back into the fight, his anger fueling him.
Chan saw something in his eyes and let out a sob. "You knew this was coming, didn't you?"
Seungmin smiled weakly. "I did. I saw it long before I met any of you."
"And you're okay with this?" Chan questioned, tears streaming down his face.
Seungmin smiled. "I made peace with it a long time ago."
Chan sniffled. "Goodbye, Seungmin. You were the best little brother I could have asked for."
"Goodbye, Chan. Say hello to Seungmin for me." Seungmin said as the poison reached his heart and he took his last breath.
Chan had no idea what he meant, but he didn't have time to think about it as he jumped back into the fight.
Just as Minho was about to land a killing blow to Felicity, everything around him froze and suddenly he was being thrown into snow.
He looked up to see the snowy terrain of Anglosand. Behind him, Felix was crying loudly. "I'm sorry!"
Minho glared at his father.
"This ends now, Father." Minho said, the sarcasm on the word father heavy.
"You will take me to the Fields of Sigarden or you will die." Korell threatened. The man stood ten feet away from Minho and a sobbing Felix in the snow.
"Felix, stop crying and get over here." Korell said harshly, causing the boy to cry harder. Minho growled. He'd made the boy do horrible things that no child should ever have had to do.
Minho stood his ground, wrapping his arms around the younger boy. "He isn't going anywhere near you again."
Felix stopped crying out loud, but there were still tears running down his face. Minho hugged him tight to his body.
"Stay behind me." Minho whispered to his brother, who nodded and moved to be more behind Minho.
"You are an Caldwell, Minho. You'll see the light one day." Korell said with a smirk.
Minho glared at him. "I will never be an Caldwell, Korell. I will never take your name. First and foremost, I am my mother's child and I always will be."
Minho leaped forward, throwing a blast of wind at Korell, knocking the man backward. He wasn't expecting it, which was good for Minho.
However, the man recovered quickly, slashing at Minho with his sword. Minho snarled and threw his arm to the side, changing his scepter into a sword. He met Korell's sword halfway, a clanging sound echoing throughout the ice forest.
It seemed like Korell got an idea because he smiled creepily. Then he disappeared from in front of Minho teleporting behind Felix. The man grabbed Felix and put his sword up to the boy's throat.
"Felix!" Minho shouted, reaching his hand out as if telling Korell to stop.
"Make another move and I will kill him." Korell said, smirking triumphantly.
Minho stopped. He knew Korell would make good on his threat.
"Why won't you just join me, Minho? You could have the world!"
"I already have the world, Korell." Minho replied, his gaze steely.
Korell laughed. "What? A weakling husband and a bunch of friends who, might I remind you, aren't here?!"
"They're not here because you sent them away!" Minho shouted. He was desperately trying to figure out a way to rescue Felix from Korell.
"Join me, Minho. And I won't hurt him." Korell said with a sinister smile on his face. "Take me to the Fields of Sigarden."
"Don't do it, Minho!" Felix shouted desperately.
Korell glared down at the boy. "Shut up!"
"Fine. I'll join you." Minho said and Felix shouted, "No!"
Minho watched as Korell raised his sword away from Felix's throat, only to plunge it through Felix's back.
"Felix!" Minho screamed, collapsing to his knees in the snow.
"Oops." Korell said with a shrug, throwing Felix down onto the snow.
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" Minho screamed, running at Korell. The man dodged Minho's sword, just making the allet angrier.
Minho's anger blinded him, and Korell was able to get hit after hit. Minho fought back just as hard.
Korell got a good hit on Minho's leg and the boy faltered. This ended in Korell slashing him across the stomach with his sword. Minho swung his sword once more and was able to knock Korell's sword out of his hand, but Minho could do no more.
Minho fell to the ground, unable to keep himself standing.
No... I can't lose like this. I can't do this to Felix.
"You should have joined me, Minho."
"I won't let you win..." Minho said weakly.
Korell cackled. "You're pathetic! Allets are supposed to be the most powerful beings in the world! You're an angel for crying out loud!"
"I will rule this world and no one will stop-"
Korell suddenly fell to the ground face first. He was dead.
Standing behind him was Felix. The boy had run his father through the heart with his own sword.
"Felix, come here." Minho said weakly. Felix staggered over to the other boy, his steps stuttering. He collapsed into Minho's lap.
"I- I don't want to die. Minho, I don't want to die." Felix stuttered, coughing up blood.
Minho smiled softly down at Felix. "It'll be okay, Lix."
"I'm- I'm so sorry... I didn't want to hurt anyone." Felix said quietly, choking on his words.
"Don't apologize, Felix. No one is mad at you. It wasn't your fault." Minho said soothingly, gently petting Felix's hair. Tears were running down his face, but he tried his best not to show it to Felix.
The boy choked on a sob. "Please, I don't want to die."
"You're not going to die, Felix. Hyunjin will be here soon." Minho assured, even though he knew that wasn't true. They were too far in the ice forest for Hyunjin to get there in time, and he was too injured to heal himself or Felix.
All Minho felt was cold and sorrow. He and Felix would both die.
"That wasn't Felicity. That wasn't my sister. I know it wasn't. You can't hurt her. It's not Felicity. It was Dad. It's Dad's fault." Felix pleaded.
Minho let out a quiet sob. "No one is going to hurt Felicity, Felix.
"I didn't want to kill him. I didn't want to." Felix choked on a sob. He was talking about Seungmin.
"I know you didn't, Lix. You didn't deserve any of this." Minho whispered, petting Felix's head comfortingly.
"Are we going to die?" Felix asked. His wound was bleeding immensely and there was no way for Minho to help him, other than by providing him comfort in his last moments. Minho was also bleeding out.
Minho nodded solemnly. "It's not that bad, you know?"
Felix looked up at Minho with a confused look.
Minho laughed softly. "We're not going to be gone forever, just gone until our next life."
"I-" Felix choked on blood again. "I want to be a cow in my next life."
"You're already a cow, Lix." Minho snickered weakly.
Felix smiled weakly. "I mean like an actual cow. An animal. They're cute."
"Then you'll be a cow, Felix. I'm sure of it." Minho said, hugging the boy tighter.
"I love you, Minho." Felix said a moment later.
"I love you too, Felix." After a while, it was quiet. Why was it quiet?
"Felix? Felix, come on, stay awake." Minho said, shaking the boy in his lap gently. He was extremely pale and barely breathing.
"Felix! Lix, stay awake!"
Minho couldn't take it when he felt Felix take his last breath. He collapsed into the snow, hugging the boy's body to his chest.
It was so cold. No one was coming for him. He couldn't even heal himself or warm himself up with his powers. He was too injured for any of them to work.
He never even got a proper wedding. He'd never get to see Hyunjin get married either. He never got to say goodbye to his sisters. Oh god, he never got to say goodbye to Chan.
As Minho took his last breath, a miracle happened. A tree grew out of the snow, its limbs reaching down and encasing Minho and Felix, protecting their final resting place.
For hundreds of years after, the tree would be known as the miracle tree in the miracle forest. A living tree growing in the middle of the coldest kingdom. The story of the two siblings forever encased inside would be told for years after.
They were known as the prince of tomorrow and yesterday's son. And they may have not gotten another tomorrow, but they built a better tomorrow for the rest of the world, and they'd always be remembered for their sacrifice.
They were the heroes of this story.
But, it didn't end there. From one of the branches, crying could be heard. Wrapped safely in the leaves at the end of one branch, was a tiny baby boy. A baby born from magic. A boy with stark white hair and brilliant eyes of two different colors of blue.
This boy would come to be known as Felix Minho Elderthorn, the miracle child. He'd been given the power that Minho possessed. And his story...
His story had just begun.
