Anxiety overflowed your body the moment the bell rang. It was time to meet Aether. You had no idea what Scaramouche spoke to him about.
Nor did you have any idea what Aether wanted to talk to you about, but you knew it wasn't going to be anything good.
After opening the door that led to the school roof, the first thing you saw was the blonde boy. He was leaning backwards on the steel-coated fence.
The steel-coated fence that was only added as a safety measure after Bennett accidentally fell off the roof twice in one month.
You noticed Aether's troubled expression as you steadily approached him. "So what did you want to talk about?" you asked in a calm tone.
You tried your hardest to act as you normally do, but it wasn't as easy as it sounded.
"Hello y/n. I wanted to ask you something. You found out I like you, right?" he asked, getting straight to the point. His straightforwardness made you more nervous.
"Uh yeah haha," you anxiously tugged on your hoodie. Aether stopped leaning on the fence and walked to you.
"And you know that Scaramouche knows this as well, yeah?" as he approached you, you took a few steps backwards.
Aether moved his eyes to your feet and noticed your uneasiness. "You don't need to worry, I just want to talk."
You simply nodded as he continued what he was saying.
"I hate him." Your eyes widened at his unexpected words, but you still didn't say anything.
"I'm sorry, I know he's dating you but it's the truth. To me, he's nothing but a jerk. A crazy jerk." You wanted to speak up, you wanted to say something to retaliate. But you couldn't. You didn't know what to say.
Aether was forcing himself to say these things to you. You could tell just by looking at him. But you couldn't make out why.
"You don't need someone like him," he took a few more steps towards you and you narrowed your eyes at him.

Aether felt feelings of regret and contempt after each sentence he spoke. He continued forcing himself to say those things in the effort of getting you to hate him. But after every sentence, he felt more and more pain build up inside him as he watched the shock grow on your face. And what he was just about to do would surely get you to despise him.

"Aether- why are you saying this?" you finally decided to speak up, not being able to handle the slander anymore.
Aether was now standing only a few inches before you as you continued staring at him in shock and confusion.
"Because Scaramouche doesn't deserve you." He moved his hand next to your face and stroked your hair. You tried stepping backwards, but he grabbed your arm.
"What are you doing?" you were surprised by his actions and it hurt you. Each word he spoke stung you hard.
He spoke horrible things about Scaramouche so calmly and now, he was doing this. The shock was slowly eating you up. You no longer could think clearly.
But his next move was what hurt you the most. He slowly started to lean towards your face.
You trusted Aether. He became one of your closest friends in such little time. Even if you didn't know him for long, you still trusted him. And all those times that you spent with him were about to shatter right in front of your eyes. The friendship you had developed with him would soon break into tiny pieces.
"And what the fuck do you think you're doing?" you instantly snapped out of your depressive thoughts after a sharp voice shouted towards your direction.
Aether ceased what he was doing and slightly tilted his head backwards. He looked to his left, to where he saw Scaramouche standing right next to him.
Scaramouche's hand was on Aether's shoulder and his bright magenta eyes were glaring him down in solemn hatred. "Scaramouche." Aether whispered while looking at him in dismay.
The conflicted blonde man backed away from you and faced the angered navy haired man. Scaramouche crossed his arms, his eyes not once moving from Aether's.
"I'm doing what you told me to do," he said but was hesitant since he knew you didn't know about their conversation.
You immediately noticed. "What do you mean by what he told you to do?"
Scaramouche flinched. And Aether waited for him to say something. But he didn't.
"You're not going to tell her?" he asked. Scaramouche didn't reply. He was worried about the outcome if he did. "Fine, then I will."
You looked away from Scaramouche and faced Aether. "What's going on, Aether?"
"Scaramouche told me to make you hate me. And he threatened me if I refused." Your eyes widened in disbelief. Scaramouche was responsible for all of this?
"What?"
An exasperated sigh left Scaramouche's lips as he roughed up his hair in frustration. "That's enough Aether," he warned, "I'll explain the rest."
But Aether continued, making sure you knew every detail. "He threatened to get us both sent to jail if I didn't."
You stared at him, still shook to the core. "I said that's enough," Scaramouche repeated, but more boldly this time.
"I wouldn't have ever done that to you if that psycho hadn't forced me to," he continued his bickering.

"SCARAMOUCHE" Scaramouche's eyes enlarged after hearing your pained yell. He soon realized what he had done. "Wh-" he quickly backed away from Aether's fallen body.
Being lost in his thoughts, he had punched Aether without noticing. Aether grunted as he picked himself up. "This is what I meant," he glared at the currently perplexed navy haired man, while rubbing his cheek that Scaramouche had punched.
There was a moment of silence and your heart was beating fast from the panic.
Then Aether suddenly decided to retaliate and lunged towards Scaramouche, throwing a harsh punch back at the puzzled man.
Scaramouche wasn't expecting the punch so he couldn't dodge it in time and was thrown onto the rough ground. "You bitch," he leered at Aether in immense rage.
After clicking his tongue, Scaramouche retaliated as well and rushed to the blonde man where they both soon engaged in a heated fight. 'Not again,' your panic worsened.
There was no way you could stop the fight and there was no one else around to help.
"Just admit it, Scaramouche. You're jealous." Aether tried throwing another punch but Scaramouche quickly caught his fist this time. "Why don't you shut your mouth, do you have a death wish?"
You blankly stared at both of them. 'This can't be happening'
"What in the name of morax is going on here?" you heard a feminine voice from behind, making you quickly turn around.
You saw a woman with light purple hair that was tied up into two high ponytails. It was Keqing.
You didn't know much about Keqing but you did know she was part of the student council.
Her pinkish purple eyes stared at you three in confusion.
The two boys completely disregarded the female's words and continued their fight. She clicked her tongue and was now officially annoyed.
"Uh-" before you could begin your sentence, Keqing quickly sprinted to the two fighting. She was extremely fast. Almost like lightning.
She pulled Aether away from Scaramouche, pushed Scaramouche backwards and stopped the fight all in the span of what felt like 10 seconds.
The two boys blinked their eyes in confusion, not knowing what happened.
"Hey blondie, calm down alright?" she let go of Aether and Aether just stared at her, completely dumbfounded.
"O- okay," the blonde man composed himself.
Keqing shook her head. "I won't report this fight this time, but be warned. There will be no mercy if I see you two fighting again," she crossed her arms.
Scaramouche scoffed and turned the other way like the sassy drama king he is. You sighed in relief after seeing things under control.
As Keqing walked to the door, Aether followed from behind. And once they both left, it was just you and Scaramouche.
You walked to where the grumpy tsundere was standing.
"Are you okay?" You asked after noticing his lip was slightly bleeding. "I'm fine," he mumbled, aggressively wiping the blood away. He still seemed annoyed.
You raised a brow.
"Whatever you say.
Now let's talk, little man."
