Well, that Annabeth Chase certainly knows how to make an exit. Maybe Nico would make that joke out loud under other circumstances, but he can kind of resonate with her. They'd tried to grill her on what may or may not have happened between her and Percy when they probably should have focused on her recovery from whatever happened last night.

It's a shame Annabeth isn't here to see karma hit Nico and Will. As soon as she gets up to leave, Piper takes the opportunity to ask about where they went after the tenth bell cart race.

The truth? They left at some ungodly hour with full intentions of having sex. Everything's a blur after that; Nico doesn't even remember the first bell cart race.

The evidence in the morning said that no, Nico and Will did not have sex. They must have been too drunk to even get their clothes off because Nico woke up in the same outfit he wore last night, jacket and all.

Piper obviously doesn't believe him when he recounts this story with fewer details but doesn't seem to care enough to investigate any further.

"I just remember kicking ass at bocce ball. I was already buzzed at that point, so by the time Leo brought us lemon drops, I was a goner. Found some pretty hilarious photos on my phone though," Piper says.

"Yeah, you sent those to the group chat," says Nico.

"Which group chat?"

Nico unlocks his phone to show Piper the proof. "You sent them to the wedding party chat. The one that's called 'Frazel forever'."

"Oh shit."

Will laughs. "Let me see."

Piper hesitates to hand over her phone. "Let me just, uh, delete Drunk Piper's nudes. She was feeling a little sexy when she got back... There we go."

Will takes the phone from her and starts to swipe through with his index finger. It's funny; he looks like a grandpa who's never used a touchscreen before.

"This one is probably my favorite. I might post it with my wedding photo dump if you guys are okay with it," Piper says.

It's a picture of Piper McLean super close to the camera, wearing her baseball cap and sunglasses- at night- with Frank and Leo on a bell cart in the background, and Will and Nico with their arms around each other just behind her.

They look like a real couple there. Not just two guys hanging out who might be hooking up for the time being.

"I guess I'm okay with it if you are, Will," says Nico.

Piper takes the phone back. "Sorry, I didn't mean to spark an awkward conversation. But, you know, while we're here... What is going on with you guys?"

Nico looks to Will for an answer, but it seems like Will's doing the same thing. They were just hooking up. That's how they defined it. But the friendly drunken joyride last night, and the trip to McDonald's, and now the feeling of Will's foot brushing up against Nico's ankle...

He's not sure anymore. They might need to have a conversation about a relationship that goes beyond sex soon. It was supposed to be no strings attached, but he should have known better than to try that with someone he's dated before. Now, Nico's afraid he might have actually caught feelings. He's not exactly known for getting over feelings easily.

Piper must notice the tension she accidentally caused because all of a sudden she says, "Oh, look! It's Leo!" and gets up to say hello.

Will swallows. "We should uh, probably figure this out before somebody else asks."

"Yeah," says Nico.

The two sit and stare at the paper centerpiece for another awkward pause.

Finally, Will says, "So what do you think? About getting back together?"

You're all the way in L.A. and I'm in New York is Nico's first instinct. It always is when he thinks about this, and he thinks about this a lot. Besides, his dogs are in New York, and his job at Camp Half-Blood...

Suddenly, a new suggestion crosses Nico's mind, a more optimistic one: There are hospitals in New York.

Like a ghost, Nico is transparent. "I think... if it's something you'd be interested in, I'd like to try this out again. The only thing is that I can't leave New York. My roots are just too deep. These people at Camp Half-Blood-"

"They're going to need a super awesome child psychologist," Will finishes. "Sorry, I didn't mean to cut you off."

"It's okay," Nico says.

"So, what did you have in mind?" Will asks.

"Well, I know it's not entirely fair of me to ask, but there are hospitals in New York," Nico says, hoping that Will understands what he's implying.

"Oh," Will pulls back. "I mean, you're not wrong."

Nico smiles. "My hopes aren't as high as they were last time I tried to make plans for us, so no pressure if you don't want to get back together or if you need to think about it..."

"No, I definitely want to get back together," Will says.

What a relief! Nico is thrilled. Will can stay in the Apollo Cabin at Camp Half-Blood, and help out in the infirmary, only a hop and a skip away from Nico.

"But," Will starts, "I can't leave Annabeth."

"Will, she's like, twenty-seven years old, right?" Nico doesn't want to be a jerk, but come on! This is a grown woman Will's so worried about.

"I just don't think she can handle me being gone. We've bonded so much over the past few years. How are we supposed to just learn to live without each other?" Will explains.

Nico feels his shoulders tense. "I don't mean to be like this, but what were you planning on doing when our plan to get her back together with Percy works? Can she live without you when they get married, or will you just move in and be their maid or something?"

"Nico, I'm serious. She can barely function. She needs someone who can be there all the time through the good and the bad and if she leaves me for Percy and things don't work out, what will happen to her? You're the one studying psychology. It's bad, Nico. It could be so bad."

Now Nico doesn't have his degree or any qualifications yet, but he's pretty sure they're not talking about Annabeth anymore.

He understands though. He understands enough to take back every snarky comment or thought he's ever had about Will's commitment issues.

Maybe the reason why Will's so close with Annabeth is that their relationship revolves around him taking care of her like he did last night.

Like she's his patient and he's her doctor.

Nico sets his beer down on the table, all plans of drinking it flying out the window.

"I'll... I'll think on it though," says Will. "I promise I'm not just saying that."

He's definitely just saying that to make Nico feel better.

But Nico doesn't want to cause a scene. "That's-"

"This is something new! The Casper Slide part two! Featuring the Platinum Band! And this time-"

"Oh my gods!" Reyna shouts from the bar. "We're going to get funky!"

Piper grabs Will and Nico's hands and leads them to the dance floor. "C'mon guys! It's 'The Cha Cha Slide'!"

"Piper, I'm like, a hundred years old," Nico says.

Still clapping her hands, Piper says, "I'll teach you! You can help, Will!"

"I, uh... I need to check on Annabeth," Will says. "Sorry." He darts out of the room.

Piper shrugs and hops into the air, and then hops two more times.

"Guess it's just us!" she shouts.

Nico imitates her movements. "Wait, what is 'turn it out?' Piper, I'm so confused!"

"Just have fun!" Piper says through laughter. "Everyone's dancing!"

Nico looks around. She's not wrong. Everyone is dancing. Maybe he should give this a shot. It's not as crazy as bell cart racing anyway.
