[When it rains]
Over the horizon stood a mountain tall, always In first to make contact with the sun's glare, the fluffy clouds, the Beautifully cold snow and the glittering rain.
The most enchanting of them all would be the rain. Sometimes it could be cold, in other days hot, loud, quiet, pouring heavily or softly. It's just so unexpected., That's why (y/n) loves it so much.
For someone who already passed the process of ascending to immortality, the knowledge she possessed is far greater from others, making her the all seeing and all knowing, god like being.
After hitting immortality, she decided to not go further and stay in her spot on earth, nothing brings her joy more than seeing how humans and the world around them blossom to something either great or bad.
Either way it's entertaining. Wars would Happened and all she will do is watch the people below her, fight for a stupid reason. It's all a game.
Nothing is interesting anymore.
It's been some thousand years ever since she reach the immortal state and every year she ages, it gets boring.
The only thing that could entertain her as of now is the heavenly rain.
Showering down on her like glitter falling from above, and when it hits, that's when her happiness grows.
"This time it's cold and pouring quite heavily...I wonder what's happening up there."
In every inch of earth, there's always a god of something.
Wether it'd be water, flowers, trees, even the smallest thing like a potato. Everything has a god that control the cycle of that one thing.
(Y/n) took the privilege as a mountain goddes, originally, she was supposed to be encharge with the stars but where will be the fun in that?
Like how she's encharge of the mountain, there's also a god for the rain.
(Y/n) doesn't know much about other gods since it has never been her business and that includes the one encharge with rain.
She stood up from her little rock seat and went inside a temple, her home, while mumbling, "Since it's pouring heavily and the rain is cold, the rain god or goddes must be really pissed.... In that case, I should sturdy the mountains to prevent any landslides."
⊹3 thousand years later⊹
Once every 6 thousand years, every god and goddesses will be attending a conference regarding their duty for the humans, what trouble they have and how the higher rank gods could help them.
This was (y/n)'s first meeting so also her first time seeing the different faces of the holy ones, that means, including the rain god/ goddess she was so curios about.
Every gods and goddesses sat around 3 gigantic tables with fancy and shinny decorations adorning it's surface and mouthwatering food sprawled across the round tables.
In one table sat the ones encharge with matters beyond earth such as the moon, stars and other planets, in another table sat those who are taking care of the land while the last table was surrounded by those who works above the clouds.
Most already knew everyone, only (y/n) was the only one who couldn't strike a conversation since she was new to this whole meeting.
Soon, the chatter came to a stop when a loud Klang of a wine glass filled the large room.
In the table opposite to theirs was another huge table with higher heavenly figures standing around it, one look of each was enough to silence the whole hall.
The eldest and wises looking of all, started, "Today's meeting will be no different from the other ones we had held in the past but before that, I'd like to welcome a new face ."
Whispers spread around the room, the bearded old man continued, "As you all know, we have a new goddes here who ascended some thousand years ago," he pointed at (y/n) who felt uncomfortable under everyone's gaze which made her shrunk in her seat.
"I know the area near you had always been prone to water related accidents," the water god flinched and all stares transferred to him.
(Y/n) only shook her head and explained, unexpectedly gaining courage, "It is not the water god who caused me to loose some spiritual energy from building mountains all over again, the rain god or goddes probably wakes up on the wrong side everyday." Rude comments like that was unacceptable but everyone couldn't help but snicker, but they soon went quiet after a glare from someone.
Everyone already knew who they shouldn't piss off but sine (y/n) just hatched out of her egg, how could she have known?
A man who looked quite Beautiful, loudly pushed his sit back and stood up, right after he thumped towards the table where (y/n) is, did if start raining and quite heavily as well.
No one dared stop him, the other gods were just too scared or interested to do anything, same for the higher ranked gods.
"My rain isn't the only thing at fault here. Why don't your just get rid of those mountains that causes trouble?" By the time he finished his sentence, the rain god was already infront of (y/n)'s petite body, looking down at her as if she were a peasant.
From his suggestion, numerous gods began to shake their heads and whisper, (y/n) imidiatly knew why they oppose that idea, she too, finds it stupid.
She averted her gaze from the worried gods and goddesses and smiled at the one before her, "So you're the rain god. Thank you for blessing me with rain almost everyday. I can't help but think why the heavy rain always lands on my area?"
A tick mark popped up and he scolded, "Don't you dare change the subject, you-"
A Klang, just like before interrupted Liang, the two looked at the gods before them and bowed as an apology for the useless argument.
"This matter is only for you two to discuss. Please speak of this when the meeting is done, I would also give you a proper solution regarding your problem," the god who was enchrage of supervising those who works for the skies, spoke up with a kind smile, making the two bowing figure calm down but liang still sent one last glare to (y/n) before going back to his table.
After the whole discussion among gods and goddesses, they were sent back to their places except for the two, newly titled "problematic spirits", the mountain goddess and rain god.
They were ordered to go to a more secluded part of the heavens.
Along the way, they conversated a bit...more like complained.
"Tch. You could've just taken down some mountains," liang scoffed.
(Y/n) wore her usual warm but eerie smile and told him, "I'm afraid I can't do that."
He Confusedly looked at the goddes and asked, "And what is the reason for that?"
"The mountains are my only responsibility, yes, but on my mountains, there are also gods and goddesses who have their responsibilities there. Take the soil god for example, the tree goddess, the flower goddess, the water god, they all have their tasks on my mountains so I can not ignore that. There are also numerous temples for the other gods, including yours. So tell me, do you think that taking down some mountains might be a smart idea?" She explained and gave him a cheeky grin at the end of her question.
Based on his scowl, Liang looked like he didn't listen at all so (y/n) explained further, "I'm sure you know that if a temple is closer to the object a god is encharge of, the louder the prayers are heard. In this case, you're from the sky and it would be more difficult to build a temple closer to you, so what other method is there to get close to the heavens but build the temples on the mountains? That's logical, if you ask me also, there are quite a number of gods enchrage with the sky so please consider them as well before you press on me with the idea of taking down mountains any further." Once again, a smirk spread across her face but just as fast as it came, it disappeared and was repalced with a respectful smile.
(Y/n)'s eyes left Liang's and she bowed unexpectedly, liang followed her gaze and in a hurry, bowed as well.
"Sky god," they said in unison.
The youthful man smiled at them and directed the two to a marble table set up.
Sky god, Hitoshi ,was one of the kindest and liveliest gods which earned him alot of respect, knowing the two won't go through hours of lecture, they felt relieved.
"Now, I have an idea that one of you might support," he looked at (y/n) then continued,"And the other might throw a tantrum over it," his eyes averted to Liang.
"Wan ShanYu*, Shuang XiaJiang*, How about you two work together?"
(I used Google translate for this so you Chinese peeps, please don't attack me ;-;)
*These are courtesy names(It's an ancient china!AU after all) , Wan is (y/n)'s surname and ShanYu is her courtesy name, I gave liang a last name as well(even though 'liang' is already a surname) which is Shuang while his courtesy name is Xiajiang.
It fell silent after Hitoshi's suggestion and after the akward peace, came complaints.
The sky god just gave his signature smile and sipped the tea he prepared, "I see, so both of them opposed my idea. Well it was worth a shot."
"With all due respect, my Lord, I can never work with someone who keeps running their mouth!" Liang exclaimed.
(Y/n) helped herself with tea as well and calmly but still coldly stated, "Shuang Liang's rain is really a blessing to me, the only interesting thing I can look forward to after ascending here but, I don't think working with the one who gives me blessing will be comfortable so I sadly must refuse."
"Who gave you permission to call me by my name? Shameless!"
(Y/n) thought, I really thought the rain god would be more calm but it seems like he's easy to piss off, not only that but he's an idiot too...I guess I expected too much.
"How about this.." Hitoshi spoke up and caught the two complaining Gods' attention.
"You two are one of the hardworking gods out there who are independent and doesn't even need a deciple, but sometimes, it's important to know partnership. I'll give the two of you....mhhh...2 years of working together!" Again, it was silent before the two started complaining again.
The sky god held two fingers up, ignoring the two arguing gods, he continued, "If within those two years you can't cooperate with the other then, you're free to do whatever you two usually do!"
An agreement was settled after a couple more of fights and the two left the heavens and descended back to (y/n)'s home.
"please don't cause trouble for me, liang," said (y/n) as she rubbed her forehead.
Liang scoweld and said, "Don't call my name so casually as if we're friends and I should be the one saying that!"
Months of quarreling and debate followed and before they knew it, it has already been a year since they started this whole agreement.
Surprising enough, they worked quite well minus the rude comments they throw at each other sometimes.
Now, the two are doing their usual work, Liang bringing down rain, sometimes with a mix of thunder and lightning from the other gods while (y/n) tells him what area are currently prone to landslide accidents.
It was peaceful until (y/n) shattered the silence, "How come your rain feel alot warmer and calmer ever since we started working?"
Liang froze and quickly turned his head to the direction opposite of (y/n)'s and said, "It changes nase on my feelings. That's all you need to know."
"Hehe. Of course I knew that already," she said and the other god averted his eyes back to her, giving her a questioning look.
"How come?"
"I've taken down some notes; When the rain is cold and pouring harsh, you're pissed, if it's still cold but calm, I'm guessing it's neutral that's all I know, never have I ever experienced warm rain like this, the warmest I had is when summer arrives but it wasn't this warm though..." (Y/n) paused before turning her whole body to him, her usual grin plastered on her face," so tell me, what does warm and calm mean?"
He just scowled and stayed silent, making (y/n)'s curiosity grow.
After that whole scene (y/n) wouldn't stop pestering poor liang into telling her the meaning of the calm and warm rain she keeps experiencing.
What's suspicious is, he tells her what other form of rain means, like when she discovered a new type, he would imidiatly explain to her.
Example. 1
"Wahh it's warm but is pouring all over the place."
"I'm in a hurry"
Example 2.
"Liang, you should really go rest, you look like you're gonna collapse...and the rain is too cold."
"Ok. I guess I'm tired..."
(y/n) was walking around her little garden, watering each flower as she floated around her thoughts, It's odd... I'm usually uninterested in most stuff except for rain... Well if I took interest in rain, that means it's normal if I took interest on the god who controls it.
Meanwhile, with liang, the man was currently pacing around his chamber in the clouds and opening every rain gods' previous journal, where all the meanings of rain are held and more important stuff.
He flipped through pages until he found what he was looking for.
Truth is, he already memorized everything but he just needed to prove his knowledge wrong.
"...... When love develops within, warmth and peace covers the heart and so shall the rain be.....No no no, this can't be true!" No matter how much denied it, what's written there were from the wiser rain godesses and gods before him so there's no way the informations are false.
The next year came and it was finnaly time for them to part ways, although no one could tell if they were happy or saddened by this.
They ascended back to the heavenly realm and there, waited the sky god who was responsible for all this mess.
Hitoshi greeted them with his usual smile and said, "I've been mentoring you two for 2 years! And I'm glad that you not only work well but also developed a new feeling!"
For some reason, whenever Hitoshi says something straightforward, silence will always fill the air and then follows a loud searies of screams.
Though this time, it completely grew silent with no screaming at all.
As calm as she could, (y/n) questioned, "Ehem, what sort of feelings my Lord?"
The sky god just smiled at the two before saying, "Shuang Xiajiang knows. Why don't you ask him?"
With that, he disappeared in a cloud, leaving the two akward and confused pair behind.
Liang coughed and nervously said, "I'm guessing that means we'll be working together until we get replaced... Let's go back to your mountain, shall we?"
"Mhh ok... But explain to me the whole feeling thing, yeah?"
He just nodded and with that, the two went as fast as they arrived.
By the time they reached (y/n)'s mountain, dusk had already taken over the sky and liang summoned rain, making the whole seen look magical.
" You asked me about this type of rain, right?" He asked.
(Y/n) nodded and replied, "yes, a year ago. So will you finnaly tell me now?"
A pink hue formed on his cheeks as he nodded.
Liang took the female's smaller hand into his and held them on his left chest, "Do you feel that?"
(Y/n) concentrated her senses onto her hands and felt, even heard the loud beats of his heart.
"Did you used so much stamina? It's beating fast and loud."
"You're so smart and know most things but it seems like you're just a huge idiot when it comes to feelings," he deadpanned, (y/n) formed her hand into a fist and weakly punched Liang's chest.
"You're one to talk! All you ever feel is anger, what would you know?"
"I work with feelings so don't even start and can you not change the subject?"
(Y/n) retracted her hand back and glanced at liang, waiting for him to speak up.
"Love," Was all he said.
Unknowingly, a blush as red as Liang's Vermillion marks spread across (y/n)'s face and she nervously asked, her voice wavering, "love? What about it?"
"This type of rain... Means love," liang explained further and (y/n) just got more flustered and also confused.
A bundle of emotions hit her like a tidal wave, confusion, fear, sadness, hope.
Looking defeated, she asked,"Oh... So are you In love with someone?"
The warm rain was still pouring while the two were protected with a sturdy roof, the sounds of droplets softly hitting the wooden surface above them, with the sun setting, the whole scene could be describe as romantic but to (y/n), it didn't seem like it.
She had an undescribable feeling within her, sadness? Jealousy? No, it was a feeling of loosing something.
The droplets, the rattling of trees, the wind sweeping by, it all fell silent to her.
Until those unfamiliar words rang in her ear, "Yes, I love you."
(Y/n) looked at liang bewildered, a deeper blush from before crawling back to her face as she asked, "Come again?"
He came unexpectedly closer to her until he caught (y/n) in a hug, his breathy voice, once again, ringing in her ear with those same words, "I love you, (y/n)."
(y/n) didn't know anything about love but she knew for sure, it made her warm and calm inside, just like the current rain.
In joy, she replied, "I love you too."
