however, after seeing your lack of refusal, he had no choice but believe it. you were engaged to another man.

the burning he felt in his heart only worsened and his eyes never left yours as he searched for any sign of falsity.

and once he knew he had to accept it, he quickly turned around. overcome by both devastation and humiliation, he began walking away. it was far too painful to stay any longer.

you felt your heart clench as you took a step forth. you wanted to stop him. even if diluc had been standing right next to you, you wanted to run up to childe right now and tell him to stay.

you had been so desperately wanting to see him again and when you finally did, he ended up being heartbroken even further.

you clicked your tongue in frustration while holding back tears as you saw him walk away from you.

childe couldn't fathom you being engaged to another man. it hurt him in ways he didn't even know was possible.

to childe, he truly believed that he was able to overcome anything. but he couldn't overcome the one thing that meant the most to him. he lost you to another man.

this angered him. it angered him so much that he could feel himself shaking.

once he had gotten far enough, he bent down on his knees while gripping his hair. frustration was slowly consuming him.

and soon, he felt warm tears steadily go down his face, gradually getting faster. muffled sobs could be heard distinctly as his mind was filled with one thought.

"i was too late," he whispered in a shaky tone, his voice almost cracking.
