Y/N IS HARD at work with the telescope he's building for Hailee. Reverend Henry gazes at him from the window above.
Shortly after, he exits the house and approaches Y/N with a mug in one hand and a lantern in the other. The young man is aware of his presence.
"Listen. I gotta finish this tonight." Y/N says firmly, still occupied with his work.
"Here." The reverend sets the mug down. "Something hot."
Y/N looks up. "Okay. Well, I'm almost finished with the rocker. Did she order the mirrors?"
"Yeah." He points to the garage. "They're in here."
"Great."
The two then head for the garage.
"What are you gonna use for the side bearings?" Reverend Henry asks.
"I'm using an old phonographic turntable."
"So you think you can get all this done by tomorrow, Y/N?"
The young man grins slightly and nods his head.
"Definitely."

THE NEXT NIGHT, Y/N and Hailee stand on the balcony holding each other. She is in her nightgown, while Y/N wears his usual tee, jacket, and jeans.
"Thank you." She says.
He smiles. "You're welcome."
She glances behind her to admire the telescope her boyfriend has built for her.
"It's beautiful."
"Okay, it's time." He gestures toward it. "Go check it out."
She turns back to him and softly replies. "Okay."
"Okay." He repeats.
They part. He places his hands in his coat pockets. Nights by Frank Ocean continues to play softly from the Echo device nearby.
Spend it when I get that, I ain't tryna keep you
Can't keep up a conversation, can't nobody reach you Why your eyes well up?
Hailee looks through the telescope as Y/N watches her silently. She breaks away to look at the night sky and he follows her gaze. After a moment, Y/N's eyes fall back to Hailee.
He tilts his head. She adjusts the telescope knob as she looks through it once more. The Pons-Brooks comet shoots across the sky.
"Wow," Hailee whispers and smiles. "There it is."
Y/N smiles as well. She keeps looking through the telescope.
"Come here." She calls out to him. "Come...look."
He walks over to her.
"Come here." She says again. "Come look. Quick."
Y/N gently moves her aside and still holds onto her hand as he peers into the telescope. She looks up at the night sky again.
"Wow. That is cool." He says with a grin.
"Mmhmm."
Hailee is now sitting in a chair. Y/N walks away from the telescope and kneels beside her. The song playing on the Echo continues.
All my night
Been ready for you all my night
Been waitin' on you all my night
I'll buzz you in, just let me know when you outside
All my night
You been missin' all my night
Still got some good nights memorized
A few seconds later, silence goes by before the young man speaks.
"Do you love me?"
A slight shiver goes down her spine after hearing the question. She thinks oh, he's asking me? Of course, he is. Her eyes then fall on him.
"Mmm." She replies with a nod and smile.
Y/N smiles and takes her hand.
"Will you do something for me then?"
Hailee smiles. "Anything."
There is a beat as he caresses her hand with his thumb.
"Will you marry me?"
A moment passes by before she immediately nods, smiling. She's nearly crying.
Y/N returns the grin, and they kiss. He runs a hand through her hair, still embracing beneath the starry night sky.

INSIDE THE CHURCH, the church where Hailee's parents had gotten married years ago, Y/N stands by the altar in his suit. He is not the only one there, as many people attend, including Y/N's friends and family.
The doors soon open, and Hailee, linked arm-in-arm with Reverend Henry, enters. Everyone stands up and turns in their seats to watch the two.
Y/N takes a moment before looking up at Hailee, momentarily stunned, and then settles into a pleased smile. He was nervous before, but the sight of her in her wedding dress alleviated all of it.
He simply watches as she walks down the aisle. Despite her frail state, the strong woman mustered all her strength, wanting the least help possible to do so. Nothing was going to stop her from living this dream.
It was indeed a walk to remember.
Hailee and her father slowly make their way down the aisle. She observes the crowd as she passes them by, then finally looks at Y/N and smiles.
David L/N watches Hailee, his son's soon-to-be-wife, as she approaches the front of the church. He smiles.
Hailee passes by Andres, Matthew, and Anna L/N. The two ladies take a moment to smile at each other.
Hailee and her father reach Y/N at last. She hands her bouquet to someone and faces the young man, smiling. He returns the smile.
The two bring their hands together. Reverend Henry begins reading.
"Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous..."
As he reads, Y/N whispers to Hailee. "I love you."
"I love you." She whispers back.
"Love is never boastful nor conceited. It is never rude or selfish. It does not take offense, and it is not resentful."
In the crowd, Michael Dunlop observes the ceremony in silence, pleased. The same goes for Krystal, Casey, and Laura. Toward the side, Principal Wilson is also watching.
"Love takes no pleasure in other people's sins, but delights in the truth."
Hailee's student from the sister school, Sally, is also in the crowd. She is not alone, as behind her, Dylan and his mother are also in attendance.
"It is always ready to excuse. To trust. To hope. And to endure whatever comes."
The couple soon says their vows. Y/N starts.
"I, Y/N Y/M L/N, do solemnly swear to take Hailee Caribe Steinfeld as my lawfully wedded wife, to honor and to cherish her all the days of my life."
Hailee goes next.
"I, Hailee Caribe Steinfeld, do solemnly swear to take Y/N Y/M L/N as my lawfully wedded husband, to honor and to cherish him, all...of my life."
The two gaze at each other solemnly. Y/N then gently places a ring on Hailee's finger...followed by Hailee putting one on Y/N's finger.
The two smile at each other. They barely hear the Reverend officially pronouncing them husband and wife, as their attention is mainly on each other.
Seconds later, the two newlyweds embrace and passionately kiss. Everyone in the church stands up and applauds.
The couple parts, staring into each other's eyes, with Y/N laughing softly. Hailee smiles back, caressing his cheek before kissing him again.
• • • FOUR YEARS LATER • • •
A FORD EXPLORER drives down an intersection and makes a left. The driver looks around as he slows, taking in the sights of the neighborhood, which he hasn't been to in a while.
The driver, Y/N, stops the car across the street from a a house. Strangers by Roosevelt plays on his radio as he looks out the window toward it and sighs.
'Cause you keep the love for yourself
Can he treat you like no one else
Did you hear the lies that you tell
But love will take us back
Tonight
Y/N then exits the car, a bag slung over his shoulder. He's quite stylish, sporting some sunglasses along with a preppy look. He makes his way over to the house.
He removes the sunglasses upon reaching the porch and knocks. A middle-aged female housekeeper answers the door.
"Mr. L/N. Hello! Come in."
"Thank you."
Y/N steps inside and into the living room. The housekeeper gestures to the sofa.
"Have a seat, please."
"Thank you." He says again.
He sets his bag down on the couch and then sits down himself as she leaves the room. He sighs.
Soon, Reverend Henry enters the living room. He passes by the mantel to his right, which has a wedding picture of Y/N and Hailee.
"Y/N." He greets.
Y/N chuckles. "Hey."
Y/N rises from the couch, and the older man gets a better look at him.
"You look good." He compliments.
The two then embrace.
"Aw, thank you." He replies. "You too."
"I'm gettin' by."
Y/N laughs, and they both sit down. Y/N returns to his seat on the couch while Henry sits in a chair across from him. He removes his glasses.
"What's new, Y/N?"
"Well...I was just invited to the NBA Draft in Brooklyn next month."
"I heard." He replies.
"You have?"
"Word gets around. A kid from Granada Hills, National collegiate champion, scouted by top teams in the league."
Y/N chuckles and rubs his neck. After high school, he enrolled at CSUN and played college basketball there for a year before transferring to Duke, where he led the team to a championship in his final year.
He had become a hot name that teams in the NBA had an eye on, valuing his leadership, grit, and coachable tendencies. His dream of being in the big leagues was becoming true.
"Then again, your mother told me." Henry adds.
"Of course she did." Y/N replies with a snicker.
"We're so proud of you. Hailee would've been proud of you, too."
Y/N's face falls. He looks down at his hand and touches the wedding band on his finger.
"Listen...." He begins.
Y/N reaches into his bag and pulls out the book Hailee gave him in the hospital, which is her mother's book of quotes.
"I want you to have this."
He hands Reverend Henry the book. The older man looks at it.
"Oh, Y/N. Oh my. Thank you."
Y/N nods and folds his hands in front of him. He sighs.
"I'm sorry she never got her miracle."
Reverend Henry takes a moment and stares at the young man. He replies.
"She did."
There is a pause. Y/N arches a brow and looks back at his late wife's father.
"It was you."
Y/N strolls the docks of Santa Monica Pier, a place where he often frequented with Hailee, both as girlfriend and boyfriend and as a married couple during the few months she was alive.
He walks silently, hearing I Wonder by Kanye West on his AirPods.
Find your dreams come true
And I wonder if you know
What it means, what it means
And I wonder if you know
What it means, what it means
And I wonder if you know
What it means to find your dreams
He looks over the railing toward the ocean and setting sun. He starts to think about Hailee.
She had saved his life. She had taught him everything about life, hope, and the long journey ahead. She gave him the desire to follow his goals...to achieve his dreams.
And he'll always thank her for that. He'll always miss her.
Y/N finally stops and takes in the beautiful view. He stuffs his hands in his pockets. He could feel the breeze hit his face and he closes his eyes. The sensation reminds him of Hailee.
Her love is like the wind....he can't see it...but he can feel it.
Y/N reflects, opening his eyes and staring back out at the sunset. He smiles.
A/N: And that's the end! Thank you for reading! I just felt like making a book about A Walk To Remember because it's one of my favs and is a comfort movie of mine.
I might post an alternate ending sometime down the line where Hailee lives. So stay tuned for that.
Again, I hope you enjoyed and thank you all for your support. Love y'all.
