Kira and I woke at the crack of dawn to begin our journey. When I asked if she wanted to say goodbye to her parents, she refused.
"They're probably glad I'm leaving," she muttered.
Her words tugged at my heart. It reminded me of my own mother, who left me and my father behind when she believed I'd never succeed as a Demon Slayer. She didn't want to be associated with a failure. I silently vowed to help Kira avoid that pain.
The journey back took twice as long with Kira in tow, but we finally arrived at my home. I showed her to a room and handed her a set of training clothes.
"These will be easier to move in than what you're wearing now," I explained.
"Got it," she replied curtly.
"I'll wait outside," I said, leaving her to change. To my surprise, she was already outside when I stepped out.
"Aren't you quick?" I teased.
"I wanted to beat you here," she said with a small smirk.
We both laughed, and I handed her a wooden sword. "We'll start with breathing techniques, then move on to the sword."
Kira groaned, "But I want to learn the techniques now!"
"If you don't learn to breathe properly, you won't be able to do them. This may seem simple, but it's not. We'll take it step by step."
She sighed. "I guess..."
Her impatience reminded me of myself at her age. I smiled, recalling how Hana had explained everything to me. Before we could begin, a familiar voice interrupted.
"Who's this?" Tengen's unmistakable tone rang out.
I froze, realizing I'd forgotten to tell him about Kira.
Unfazed, Kira marched up to him, wearing her bravest face. "I'm her student. And you are?"
I bit my lip, trying not to laugh at Tengen's bewildered expression.
"The flashiest man alive," he declared.
Kira cocked her head, giving him an unimpressed look. "I don't see it."
I couldn't hold back a laugh, covering my mouth quickly. Tengen smirked at the two of us.
"I like her," he said. "She's a lot like you."
"Kira," I said, regaining composure, "this is Tengen Uzui, the Sound Hashira and my husband."
Kira's eyes widened as she looked between us, then nodded slowly.
"My past teachers already taught me how to breathe properly," she said, demonstrating. I was impressed but skeptical.
"Can you sustain it constantly?" I asked.
She tilted her head. I sighed, realizing her previous training hadn't covered the essentials.
"I mean, can you maintain that all day and night?"
She thought for a moment, then shook her head. Before I could elaborate, Mai, my assistant, appeared.
"Lady Y/n, welcome back. Would you like anything?" she asked.
"No, thank you. But could you show Kira to the training room?"
"Of course. Right this way," Mai said, leading Kira inside. Once they left, Tengen and I spoke briefly about recent reports of demon activity.
"There is definitely a demon in the area," he said, "but we can't act just yet."
I nodded, and after a quick hug, he left. I went to check on Kira, only to overhear her arguing with Mai.
"This is so dumb," Kira complained.
"This is how Lady Y/n trained to become a Hashira! It's not dumb!" Mai shot back.
"Is too!"
"Is not!"
"Is toโ"
"Is there a problem?" I interjected, silencing them both. Training began without further interruptions.

// kira's POV //
I still can't believe this is happening. For the first time in forever, someone believes in me. That alone has driven me to train my hardest.
The breathing technique itself was simple to learn but incredibly challenging to master. Thankfully, I already knew Total Concentration Constant, which made it slightly easier.
"Don't focus on the sword," Y/n instructed. "Focus on your body and the movement."
We were deep in the forest, and I was practicing the Fourth Form. Y/n had me cut down trees until I could execute it perfectly.
She was incredibly patient. If I fell, she didn't scold me. If I cried, she didn't call me weak. Instead, she encouraged me, working at my pace. This month has been the best of my life.
