// third person POV //

สšษž

Kira sat motionless in the pouring rain, her thoughts spiraling as Muzan's cold hand remained clamped around her neck. The rain mixed with the blood trickling down her skin, and the weight of her decision pressed on her chest like a stone.

"That's just wonderful!" Muzan said, his tone unnervingly cheerful. "I knew you would pull through."

"What do you mean?" Kira asked, her voice low but steady. She had already accepted his helpโ€”she didn't have the energy or patience for theatrics.

"I keep a close eye on potential... candidates for my line of work," Muzan replied, his sharp nails pressing gently into her skin, enough to sting but not pierce.

Kira had convinced herself she was doing the right thing. She would give anything to restore the life she had come to cherish over the past few months. Anything to save Lady Y/n.

But was this truly the way?

That nameโ€”Muzan. It tugged at the edges of her memory, like a shadow from her past lessons. Lady Y/n and Mai had both mentioned it before.

Her mind drifted back to a specific day...

// flashback : with Mai //

"And so, the Demon Slayer Corps is dedicated to purging the world of the horrid monsters that are demons," Mai said, pointing at the neatly drawn diagrams on his presentation board. His voice was monotone, and Kira could feel herself wilting from boredom.

How does Lady Y/n make this stuff sound so cool, while Mai just kills it?

"You lower-level fighters mostly deal with minor demons. They're easy enough to handleโ€”they lack significant battle experience," Mai continued.

"Um, excuse me?" Kira interrupted, crossing her arms. "I would never kill a baby, demon or not. That's just cruel. And ALSO, I'm no 'lower-level' anything. I could wipe the floor with you, Mai."

Mai narrowed his eyes. "That terrible and unattractive attitude is exactly why you remain at a lower level."

"Why you littleโ€”"

"Children!" Lady Y/n's voice cut through the tension as she raised her hand. Her calm authority silenced them immediately. "What have I told you about violence toward each other?"

Mai and Kira sighed in unison, reciting, "Only showcase violence toward a fellow Demon Slayer during training, at Christmas, or if they turn into a demon."

Lady Y/n smiled. "Exactly. Now, Mai, continue."

Mai cleared his throat, casting Kira a sidelong glare. "All Demon Slayers share one goalโ€”defeat Muzan."

"Muzan?" Kira asked, suppressing a laugh. "What kind of dumb name is that?"

"He is the Great Demon Lord, the leader of all demons," Mai said sharply, clearly exasperated with her interruptions. "The Demon Slayer Corps believes that eliminating him will dismantle his entire army. Destroy the brain, and the body will fall."

Kira's chest tightened. She had laughed at the name back then, but now, with Muzan's claws grazing her skin, it was no longer a joke.

"Well, Kira, are you ready?" Muzan asked, his nails digging deeper into her neck.

Instead of answering, Kira shoved him back, wiping at the blood trailing from her wounds. Her hand found her sword, and she unsheathed it, the familiar weight grounding her in the storm.

Muzan's smirk didn't waver. "What a pity. And here I thought you were special. Do you not want to save your Lady?"

The cuts on her neck burned, a searing pain that made her vision blur. Still, Kira tightened her grip on her sword.

"This isn't the way!" she shouted, voice trembling with fury and desperation. "Lady Y/n would never forgive me if I took help from a monster like you!"

She charged forward, but the pain overwhelmed her before she could close the distance. Her knees buckled, and she collapsed into the mud.

"You know, Kira, you did well for someone so weak," Muzan said, crouching in front of her. He grabbed her face, forcing her to look into his piercing crimson eyes.

"What... what did you do to me?" she gasped, her voice barely audible over the rain.

"Just a little blood poisoning," Muzan replied casually. "I had a feeling you might resist my help, so I prepared accordingly. You can't blame me for covering my tracks."

He stood, lifting her limp body by her face before tossing her aside like discarded trash.

"If you have a final message, I'll be sure to deliver it to Y/n," he said with a cruel smile, his voice dripping with mockery.

Kira lay motionless in the mud. The world blurred around her as her strength faded. She felt a crushing weight in her chestโ€”not just from the poison but from the realization that she wouldn't be able to save Y/n after all.

But even now, she wouldn't give Muzan the satisfaction of her despair.

"Your name is fucking ugly," Kira whispered, the faintest hint of defiance in her voice as her vision darkened.

"KIRA!"

Her head turned weakly toward the sound. Through the rain, she saw Mai, Y/n, and Tengen rushing toward her. A faint smile graced her lips as warmth filled her heart.

She was happyโ€”happy with her choices, her life, and the fact that the last thing she saw were the people she loved.
