Since a young age, she was labeled as odd, even by her own parents. She brushed this off, of course, never having been one to let silly little words or labels like that trouble her. She liked the way she was, trouble and carefree. Her parents though? Not so much, they're always stressed. About life and about her fitting in with the world.
She accompanied her parents on her father's job, this time going with them to finally meet the infamous Addam's family. The whole city knew them as the creepy family, the children peculiar, the parents strange and the grandparent deranged. She was excited to meet them to say the least.
She sat in the car, hardly listening to her parents as her father rambles on about Gomez Addams. She paid little attention, only really showing any real interest as they see the house in the distance.
"Now, stay with your mother, Amber. No wandering, God only knows what you'll find or get into while we're there if you were to get lost. End up on a milk carton..!" Her father stresses, parking the car out front of the gates and turning back to face his daughter.
"What? Oh, yeah. Listen and stay with mom so I don't find milk cartons, got it." She hurries out from the vehicle, her father trying fruitlessly to stop her and re-instruct her. Almost nineteen years old and still can't listen properly..
The girl marvels behind her father as the gate opens on its own to let her mother in, scaring the woman in the process. The gate closes behind the woman, closing the father in the gate.
"Oh! Stop it! I'm warning you!" The family insides the house takes notice of the one outside. A giggle escaping the girl rousing the attention of the family's helper. He stalks to the window, staring gloomily out it.
Tully tries to pull his coat from the gates jaws, straining to do so. The girl behind him beams up at the gate before them.
"Oh, father, honestly. Excuse me, but is it possible for you to release him so I may get by please?" The gate garbles to itself for a brief moment, releasing the man from its hold and opening back up, allowing the girl to skip past. The father stared dumbfounded at his daughter who passes by effortlessly, slowly stepping after her. He jumps, the gate trying to grab hold of him and narrowly missing. Tully stares in shock that the gate had once again tried attacking him, scuttling after his wife and daughter.
"These are your last paying clients, may I remind you?" His wife reminds harshly, scolding him for messing about with the gate and taking so long, making a fool of himself right out front of the family's home.
"If it gives you pleasure." He counters back.
"Something has too.. like a decent coat, something dressy, for evening. Ask for a loan. Beg!" She bit back, the daughter mindless to their conversation and gawking at the house before her.
"No loans. I am not a bum. Don't say it. I'll get the money. I have a plan." The daughter, in her fascination with the house, noticed something in the window. For just a split second she could have sworn someone had just been there, but as suddenly as she noticed them, as abruptly they vanished from her view. She frowned, turning back as she finally took notice of her parents bickering.
"This is all so humiliating. Why did I marry you..?!" Her mother asks exasperatedly.
"Because I said yes." Amber rests a hand on her mother's shoulder as she sulks at his words. Gesturing they get a move on to follow after him.
The door opens, much to Tully's surprised it wasn't the looming help, Lurch. Instead it was grandma Addams. Tully separates to see Mr Addams for the next installment.
"I'm here to see Mrs Addams about the charity auction." Margaret says to the elderly woman, the woman gaping at her dull-mindedly. Behind them the girl looks around the home in awe.
"Oh! It's absolutely beautiful in here!" Her mother raises a brow at her daughter's peculiar taste, shaking her head and returning her attention back to the old woman before her, only to see her walking away.
"U-uh, excuse-? Right. Right, come along, Amber." The girl nods, still taking in the houses wonderful interior while absentmindedly following after her mom. Eyes follow the girl as she walks, the eyes, usually dull and voided of life, open wide with interest as the girl exits out of view. No longer in his eye sight.
The old woman brings the new arrivals to the kitchen, where Mrs Addams could be found.
"Why hello. Oh, how lovely! This must be your daughter, I'm Mortica Addams, how wonderful to meet you, dear." The mother greets the girl warmly, a sly smirk snaking to her face as she sees a giant lurking in the shadows unbeknownst to the group. If she didn't know any better.. she'd assume he fancied the girl.
"Amber, nice to meet you, Ma'am. You have a marvelous home! And the gate out front is very welcoming." The two grow acquainted, Margaret a little upset by how quickly the the two had gotten along with each other, she always tried to understand her daughter, but it was hard too. She was just so hard to read or understand, shopping for her for holidays were a nightmare! She didn't want what the normal girls her age wanted, and if Margaret had made the mistake to get her a doll or pony horse figurine they'd end up in.. well, some rather unfortunate circumstances. The doll hung from a noose from the roof, a cinderblock suddenly crashing down with it, the weight forcing the head from the dolls body as it was ruthlessly executed. The horse drowned trying to cross the river to escape the lawnmower. Again, rather unfortunate situations but, was necessary to test their survival skills.
"Uh.. the, the items for the charity auction?" Margaret subtly splits up the interaction before her, her jealously slipping out just some. The mother smiles at the other cordially, the elderly woman turning to give the odd giant a rather strange look, questioning his more than peculiar behavior wordlessly.
"Yes, yes. Of course. Mama, help me, would you, please?" The two woman begin to go on the hunt for something, the woman glancing to her daughter as the situation she found them in suddenly.
"Charity auction, it's ridiculous!" The elder woman grouses as she rummages through some things. The stray objections flying, almost hitting the other two who stood behind her. Margaret uncomfortable about almost being hit, whereas Amber moves to the side excitedly, with a wide smile, as if a fun game of dodge ball.
"Perhaps it's in here." Morticia Addams points to the hutch between them, the older woman not to thrilled by the suggestion.
"I don't think so." She shakes her head, wishing the giant was done doing whatever it was he was doing so he could help as Morticia pulls out a large body bag.
"Uncle Niknak's winter wardrobe.." She reads the tag as the elder woman helps holds the bag up, tossing it to the side when it was proven of no importance. They move onto the next bag, Margaret glancing worried in concern, even more so as the next bag was yet another body bag.
"Uncle Niknak's summer wardrobe." The bag was tossed, another body bag being pulled out from the large hutch.
"Uncle Niknak." Morticia reads, the mother horrified as she continues watching the family rummage through their things. The daughter next to her gasps.
"Oh! I do hope we're not disturbing him! I'd feel awful if we woke him." Amber says apologetically, her mother gaping at her.
"No, no, dear. He's quite the heavy sleeper." Morticia offers the girl a soft smile, the girl relieved by the news. Margaret wondering if the poor soul was deceased. Fingers snapping gathered everyone's attention, a single, severed hand on a shelf trying to get their notice.
"There it is. Just what we've been searching for." Morticia goes towards the hand, Amber fascinated with the functioning hand that moved by itself.
"Thank you, Thing." Morticia thanks, making her way towards the other mother who was horror-struck. Amber stepping closer towards the hand, gazing back to her mother.
"Amber, don-" She tries to warn her daughter about straying to far from her side, the girl turning back to her mother.
"Isn't he just the most cutest thing, mama!?" The hand turns bashful from the compliment, swaying coyly in its spot, a finger kicking up in admiration. Morticia smiles more at the scene, glad Thing was making some friends. Though, not nearly as glad as to seeing an another had taken interest in the girl. Still lurking from afar.
"My God, what is it?" Morticia and Margaret lush over the double-headed dragon finger trap, Amber lushing over the hand, getting acquainted with the being and introducing herself. She couldn't help but pull away from the hand, turning towards the mothers who talked behind her.
"Seance?" She questioned upon hearing. Morticia nods, glad to see others than just the Addams' interested in the fine arts.
"Yes, dear. I was just saying I wish your mother would come, you'd be more than willing to come too, Amber-" The girl turns to her mother with puppy dog eyes, the mother returning the look with one that said they'll discuss it later. The woman's finger suddenly trapped in the dragon's jaws on either end, taking her by surprise.
"-It's Gomez. I'm terribly worried about him. He won't eat. He can't sleep. He keeps coughing up blood." Morticia consoles, Amber placing a comforting hand on her shoulder as Margaret's face scrunches with disgusted regard.
"He coughs up blood?" She questions.
"Well, not like he used to." She admits.
"And the Seance.. it's to help him?" Amber asks.
"Yes. You see his brother, he's been missing for quite some time. We need answers, he needs answers. Oh, please say you'll come." Her hand rests on Amber's, her eyes shifting between the two.
"Can't we, mama? I've never been to a Seance before. Besides the more people in one, the better! It's what makes it stronger!" The mother found it ridiculous, waving a hand until Morticia applauded the girl for her knowledge.
"Alright. Fine. We can go. But I need to find a sitter for your brother tonight." The girl hugged her mother ecstatically.
"Amber! Margaret! We're leaving!" Tully suddenly calls out, the man halfway out the front door as he struggles to carry the payment Mr Addam's had given him for that month's installment.
"It was very lovely to meet you, Mrs Addam's. I can't wait for tonight!" Amber bids her farewells to the woman, Margaret's fingers still trapped in the dragon trap.
"You too, dear! Thank you for coming! Feel free to stop by anytime!" Amber leads her mother out, seeing as she was at a loss, in truth she was waiting to get the Addam's woman to undo the finger trap.
