Sloane was zoned out and lying on her bed when the sound of her father's footsteps snapped her out of her daydreaming session.
"Sloane, come on. It's been an hour since I brought you your boxes and they're still in the exact same spot where I left them."
"Sorry. I just got distracted."
"Well that's just not good enough, is it? Your mother's coming with her boxes now, and I'm ordering a couple more things we need from the moving company now. This better all be unpacked when I'm done. Understood?"
"Yes sir."
"Good."
She understood her father's stress of returning back to his magazine, but he didn't have to treat her like this. The move was hard on her too. Besides, he's the one who decided to move, he shouldn't be the one making a fuss. Regardless, she made her way to the corner of her bedroom and heaved one box off the pile. The dust which had collected on the flaps covered her fingertips, as she pulled off the tape to reveal the contents of the box. Inside were compartments for her dresser, some throw pillows, a blanket, and- hold on. She didn't remember putting that there.
An elaborately decorated picture frame with colourful beads hot glued onto it. A childhood picture of Sloane and her friends. She remembers their names, although she hadn't seen them since she graduated primary school. All except one. The brunette one at the front is Caoimhe, the ginger one is Emma, and the boy at the back is Eli. The four used to hang out after school often. Sloane was especially close to Emma, they were in the same school. Of course it's also important to mention that Eli and Caoimhe were classmates at a different school. They were two duos in a quadruple, but surprisingly it worked. At least until they all separated for secondary school. Only Eli and Sloane remained acquainted for a couple more years.

Sloane had finished emptying all the boxes in her room. The cardboard was carefully folded into a much neater pile next to the door. All that was left to do was to organise them into her wardrobe, shelves and dresser.
"Lolo, your dad's with the moving people, do you need anything else? Are you ready to set up your bed frame?" Her mother walked into her room as Sloane was kneeling over the boxes, ensuring that they wouldn't topple over. The picture frame laid next to her.
"Oh, be careful here, Lolo. You might step on this." She picked it up with great care, examining the photo inside. "Aww- this is adorable. Don't throw this away. I remember when you and Eli were actually getting along for a while. It shouldn't have ended like that."
"Don't bring it up, mom. It was a month ago. I don't wanna talk about it." And suddenly it all came back to her in one big flash.
"You're such a bitch, Sloane. You know I miss when you weren't such a fucking annoying brat."
Every time someone brings it up, she wants to cry. She was just forgetting about the argument until her mother brought it up again. She was just remembering all the funny things her and Eli experienced together. She was almost letting it go, just like Eli had apparently let it go when he liked her post. Why was she so sensitive about this?
"Sorry, I know you don't like talking about it. How about- how about I take these boxes to the recycling, and we'll go grab something to eat?" She put the frame back on the floor.
"Kay." It wasn't going to be easy, trying to brush that off now.
"Tell me if you need anything." Her mother took the pile of folded cardboard boxes away and shut the door behind herself.
Sloane, still kneeling, looked at the picture once more, a small tear droplet rolling down her cheek.
