1st POV:
The sound of my alarm blared in my ear, dragging me from my sleep. I groaned and sat up, rubbing my eyes. The first day of school had arrived. I was excited but also anxious, knowing it was fresh start at West Valley High.
I stretched, letting the sunlight warm my face as I glanced around my room. It was perfectly pink, with stylish vanity, a bed covered in fluffy pillows, and my outfit laid out neatly. My closet was filled with clothes in every shade of pink and pastels - no surprise there.
After a quick shower, I dried my straight hair and put on my outfit for the day: a cute pink pleated skirt with a white fitted top and matching white sneakers. A few quick swipes of mascara and lips gloss, and I was ready.
Heading downstairs, the smell of pancakes filled the air. My mom, Victoria, was reading a magazine at the kitchen table, sipping coffee, while my dad, Oscar, was busy with the morning newspaper.
"Morning!" I chirped, grabbing an apple from the counter.
My little sister, Lila, was already eating the pancakes, swinging her feet under the table.
"Are you excited?" She asked, her wide eyes sparkling.
I smiled at her. "Yeah, I think so."
My dad glanced up, a playful smile on his face. "Just don't get distracted, alright?"
I rolled my eyes. "I won't. It's just the first day."
After a few more words with my parents, I grabbed my keys, waved goodbye, and headed out the door. My car - a cute, white convertible - was parked in the driveway. I slipped into the driver's seat, cranked the engine, and turned up the music. Blondie's "Call Me" blasted from the speakers as I drove off, the wind in my hair, and excitement bubbling inside me.
When I pulled into the parking lot, I realized it was packed. Cars and motorcycles lined the space, some students hanging out in groups and others lounging around. I parked my convertible, blasting my music, but something caught my eye: a row of motorcycles.
I frowned. Cobra Kai.
Of course, I had parked next to them.
Ali had already warned me about them - Johnny Lawrence and his gang. They were trouble, no doubt. Johnny, the leader, was the type of guy who had reputation for making things difficult for anyone he didn't like.
As I stepped out of my car, I could feel their eyes on me. Dutch grinned, and Bobby waved in my direction. I sighted, adjusting my backpack.
"Well, look who's here," Johnny's voice cut through crowd.
I turned to see him standing with his arms crossed, leaning against one of the motorcycles. His blue eyes studied me, and I couldn't help but feel their tension in the air.
"Johnny Lawrence," I said, raising an eyebrow.
He smirked. "You already know my name."
I shrugged, not giving him much. "It's not like you're hard to miss."
He raised his eyebrows in surprise, clearly expecting me to be intimidated. "You've got some guts."
I didn't respond, walking past him and heading toward the entrance of the school.
"See you around, Monroe!" Johnny called out, his tone playful, though there was a hint of something else in his voice.
I kept walking.
The halls of West Valley High were filled with chatter as everyone found their classrooms. I had a few classes with Ali, which made things easier.
First period was history, and I found myself sitting next to a guy I didn't know. He had dark hair and a friendly smile, but we didn't talk much.
Next was chemistry, and then English - normal classes. But P.E was what I was really looking forward to. Cheerleading tryouts would be later in the day, and I had to make sure I was on my best game.
By the time lunch rolled around, I was feeling a bit more comfortable. I sat with Ali, Barbara and Susan in the cafeteria, chatting about everything and nothing.
"Your going to crush it in cheer." Ali said, grinning.
"I hope so. I've been practicing." I replied, taking a bite of my lunch.
Barbara leaned in. "Just make sure to avoid the cobras."
I raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"They have way of causing trouble." Susan said, her voice low.
I nodded. "I've noticed."
But as I spoke, I couldn't help but feel Johnny's eyes on me from across the cafeteria. He and the other cobras were sitting at a table, but his gaze kept drifting back to me. I looked away, pretending not to notice.
This wasn't over. Not by a long shot.
The final bell of the day rang, signaling the start of P.E class. The entire school had gathered outside, splitting into groups of for various activities. For us, it was cheerleading practise. The cheerleading team had a scheduled workout today, so Ali and I jogged over to the track, excited but nervous.
"We're going to nail this!" Ali said, giving me a confident smile as she tied her ponytail tighter.
I smiled back, stretching my arms. "For sure. This is going to be awesome."
The cheerleading squad had already assembled, and we quickly joined them. Ali and I were both excited for tryouts, and today's practice was a great way to warm up. The coach blew her whistle, signaling that practise had officially started.
I was more focused on the warm-up stretches, trying to calm my nerves. Ali was leading the team in a few jumps and stretches when I noticed the cobras, standing by the bleachers, eyeing us. Johnny, Bobby, Tommy, Dutch and Jimmy were all hanging out, talking amongst themselves, while Johnny kept glancing in our direction, particularly at me.
I didn't want to let it throw me off, but I couldn't deny the feeling that his eyes were on me the entire time.
After a few more stretches, coach blew her whistle again, signaling that we were ready to practise our stunts. I was part of the pyramid formation, which had me a little nervous but also excited. Ali stood beside me, offering words of encouragement.
"You've got this, Rosie!" She said, adjusting her hair before giving me a thumbs-up.
"We'll totally nail it!" I replied, determined not to let anything ruin this moment.
As I glanced over to the bleachers, Johnny and his gang were still watching us. This time, I caught Johnny's gaze, and he gave me a small smirk. It was the kind of smirk that said he had something up his sleeve, something I wasn't ready for.
I quickly turned my attention back to the practise, blocking out the cobras stare. But just as we were getting into position, I heard a loud, unexpected noise - cheering from the other side of the field.
"What's going on?" I whispered to Ali.
Before she could answer, we saw Daniel jogging up to the field. I had seen him around school but hadn't talked to him much.
Daniel joined the soccer game that was happening nearby. He was running toward the field, ready to get in the game. I couldn't help but notice how natural he looked. But before we could focus on the game, I heard Tommy's voice shout from the bleachers.
"Hey LaRusso! You think you can play with us?"
Johnny and the other cobras exchanged glances, and Daniel hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
"Sure," Daniel replied with a grin, as he jogged into the game.
The soccer match began, and Daniel quickly got involved, impressing everyone with his skills. It was fun to watch, but it didn't take long before Johnny's gang got involved. The intensity of the game grew quickly. Tommy, Bobby, and Dutch were playing aggressively, and things seemed to escalate.
Ali and I were sitting on the sidelines, watching the game when suddenly, Bobby shoved Daniel, knocking him off balance.
"That's not how you play," Daniel said, getting back to his feet.
Johnny wasn't far behind, and before anyone could stop them, the fight started.
Johnny showed Daniel hard. "You don't belong here, LaRusso."
The cobras quickly surrounded Daniel, the situation escalating rapidly. Ali and I jumped to our feet.
"Johnny! Stop!" Ali shouted, trying to get his attention, but he was too focused on Daniel.
I saw the moment when Daniel fought back, his fists flying as he defended himself. My heart raced as I stood there, unsure of what to do. But the fight was quickly becoming chaotic, and I could see Johnny's gang encouraging him from the sidelines.
I tried to make my way towards the fight, but before I could even get close, Bobby grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
"Stay out of it, Monroe." Bobby warned with a sneer.
"Let go of me!" I shouted, yanking my arm out of his grip.
But it was too late. The fight had escalated to a point where coach had to intervene, shouting for everyone to stop.
"Enough!" Coach yelled, stepping between Johnny and Daniel. "This isn't happening. Now, everyone, get back to your teams."
Johnny glared at Daniel one last time before walking away with his gang. They made their way back to the bleachers, clearly upset. As they left, Johnny gave me one last look - his eyes cold and calculating.
I shook my head, trying to ignore the tension that still hung in the air. The fight was over for now, but something told me that this wasn't the last time Johnny and I would cross paths.
As Ali and I walked back to the cheerleading squad, I couldn't shake the feeling that things were about to get more complicated. And I was pretty sure Johnny was only just getting started.
