when changmin's phone rings in the middle of maths class, the only reason why he doesn't get detention is because his lactose intolerant teacher is currently bearing the effects of eating the 'dairy-free' chocolate gifted to him by eric sohn, changmin's liberal arts major junior.

"eric says 'you're welcome'." juyeon whispers into changmin's ear, smiling mischievously.

"yeah yeah, anyway i gotta take this so i'll be at your locker okay?" changmin's locker was two floors down and he could never be bothered to use it except for his dance stuff, so he put all his books in juyeon's locker.

the taller nods, waving him off amicably, and changmin hurries out of the classroom to pick up the call.

he draws in a sharp breath when he sees the caller id—and then lets the breath out when he realises he misread it. how one misreads 'hee_choi' as 'new.uyu' is a mystery to changmin, but he picks up anyway.

"hello?"

there is the sound of heavy breathing, and changmin guesses it's a prank call. but just as he is about to hang up, there is a small shriek and then a voice comes from the other end.

"i'm so sorry i must have, um, accidentally called you. this is chanhee by the way," the voice says.

"oh cool, did you find who i was looking for?"

"...no. aren't you in class right now?"

"nah, i'm at the lockers. you?"

"oh, i only have afternoon classes today so i'm chilling outside the practice room."

"that's nice."

there is a long moment of silence and changmin feels very awkward to be standing by juyeon's locker, holding his phone to his ear in silence.

"...anyways, i guess i should get back to class now. bye."

"bye." chanhee greets before hanging up.

to be honest, changmin really admires the older. ever since his best friend sunwoo started hero worshipping him, changmin took the time to check out a few of the singer's covers. his stage presence was phenomenal, which changmin had taken years to master.

but there was the downside of chanhee being one of the vainest boys in school. from all of his encounters with chanhee and the constant gossip travelling throughout the school about anyone and everyone, changmin deduced that he cared more about his clothes and looks than anything else, which disappointed the dancer a little as it merely supported the myth that all vocal majors were stuck up brats.

changmin steps into the classroom and juyeon stares at him expectantly. "who was it?"

"no one." changmin says.
