Sophie's POV:
Whew, another long day of studying is finally over. I'm still trying to adjust to this new world, and it honestly feels strange in a weird way. It's different from what I'm used to, and that can be unsettling at times. But I'm hopeful that it will eventually become normal, even though nothing here seems remotely normal. I'll have to get used to it, since I'll be living here for the rest of my life.
Right now, I'm getting ready to go to Biana's house to hang out with the girls - Marella, Linh, and Biana. Biana wanted us all to get together for some girl time, including makeovers and whatever else she has plans for. I didn't have any big plans, especially since I'm not used to having friends. It's a big change for me to go from having no friends to having seven, and I'm feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness about it.
I'm going into this with no experience, so I think I'll just go with the flow and try to tolerate the makeover, even though it's not really my thing. It's a serious pet peeve of mine, and I prefer to stick to my own style. I'm putting my foot down about wearing heels, though - I refuse to let Biana torture my feet and ankles with those evil shoes. I'll let her do my makeup and hair, but I'm picking my own outfit and shoes.
I'm satisfied with my outfit, even though I don't care much about it. I take a deep breath to calm my nerves, then walk outside and say "EVERGLEN." The light whisks me away and I appear in Everglen. Biana greets me outside.
"YAY. You're here, Sophie. Come on, let's go inside and do makeovers. Linh's already upstairs, and Marella will be here in a second," Biana says excitedly, dragging me inside the house and up to her room. Linh is sitting at a different vanity doing her makeup. She turns around when Biana and I enter the room.
"Hey, Sophie," she greets with a smile. "Hi, Linh," I say, smiling back at her. I turn to Biana.
"Ok, Biana. If I'm going to let you do this, I only have two conditions," I say to her, looking her in the eye to make sure I have her full attention. "Ok, what's that?"
"One, NO HEELS! Two, I chose my dress. I'll let you do hair and makeup if I get to pick those things," I say to her sternly. "Deal," she says, walking me over to the vanity. While we were doing my hair, we chatted a little. Man, this is so nice.
"Let me guess, you are clumsy, and heels are not your friend," Linh says. "One hundred percent correct. They will kill my ankles and feet. I refuse to take that risk," Linh laughs as she carries on with her makeup.
Linh, you're probably right. I am clumsy and heels are definitely not my friend," Linh says with a laugh as she continues doing her makeup.
"So, how have things been since leaving the Forbidden Cities?" Biana asks curiously. "It's been weird, upside down, and strange. I'm still getting used to everything. Sometimes I catch myself doing my old human habits before people either look at me confused or I correct myself," I admit.
"I guess the Forbidden Cities would be strange for me too, except for some other things," Biana says as she starts braiding my hair. "I suppose they would be weird for me too. But I think it's because I've been here my whole life and you've been there most of your life," Linh adds.
"Yeah, that's a good point. The biggest change for me was going from having no friends to having friends. I never had any before now," I tell them. "Wow, seriously, Sophie. That must have been rough. Don't worry, you've got us now," Biana responds.
"That must have been tough, Sophie. But we're glad you're here," Linh adds.
"Thanks, guys. That means a lot," I replied. "Hey, have you met your soulmate in real life?" Biana asks curiously.
Marella enters the room. "Hey, guys. Sorry for being late," she apologizes. "It's fine, Marella. Why don't you get started? I heard Fitz is having the boys over, so maybe we can show them when we're done," Biana suggests. "Oh, okay. Let's see how they react."
"Speaking of which, let's talk about soulmates," Linh says. "I love mine. He's the sweetest. I hate that I can't see him in real life yet," Biana says with a sigh. "I feel the same way," I tell her knowingly. "The good part right now is that we've been able to communicate through the magic paper thingy," Marella adds.
"Me too. We communicate every night on our magical paper. We really miss each other and are looking forward to the special day," I say, sighing. "Yeah, I've been doing the same with mine. But you know what's strange? There's this boy who seems so familiar to me every time I'm around him. Do you know what I mean?"
"YES! My soulmate and I have talked about this. It's weird because he has the same experience. We've tried discussing it, but we're not sure how to approach the situation," I say to her. It seems like it's not just me and Keefe experiencing this. It's a common thing for all soulmates. There's so much to deal with that I honestly can't understand it all. It makes sense at times, but other times it's confusing.
"Oh my gosh! I've had the same problem. I thought it was only me. I'm glad to be in the same boat with you guys," Linh says, with Marella nodding in agreement.
"Hmm. It seems like I'm not the only one going crazy about this. I guess it's a common thing for everyone," she says, finishing my hair finally. "I don't know, this whole thing is just weird and confusing at the same time. I'm just taking one step at a time, not sure what else to do."
"That's probably the best idea," Linh replies, now doing her hair. "Okay, Sophie, let's do makeup. I vote for something that will impress the boys," Biana says, chuckling a little. "Seriously. I'm pretty sure you girls would already do that without trying anything in the Forbidden Cities. You guys seriously look like models."
"Why thank you very much," Biana says, flicking her hair with her hand. I laughed. So, this is what having friends feels like. I like it. It's going to be fun. After finishing my makeup, I look at myself. I'm positive this is the same hairstyle I had in the special dream I had with Keefe. It's the same. But how would Biana know that? She wouldn't have, it's impossible. Only me and Keefe would know. I shake the feeling off and turn to Biana, who motions to her closet... yeah, no, that's not a closet, I'm pretty sure it's a personal mall or something. I look around to pick a dress.
I spotted a red dress and really liked it, so I changed into it and showed it to the girls. Marella, Biana, and Linh were impressed.
"Sophie, you look like a princess or something. You're breathtaking!" Biana said in awe. "She's right, you know," Linh added. "Okay, let me change and then we can show the boys. I can hear them downstairs," Biana said, entering her closet to find a dress for herself. Linh's dress is a pretty shade of purple, and Marella is in a coral color. After preparing ourselves, we exit the room, Biana going first, then Linh, with me at the end. Both Linh and Biana are wearing heels, I'm walking barefoot.
I smirked on the inside as we went down the stairs to join the boys.
"Seriously, Biana. Had to do a makeover," someone grumbled. "Oh, be quiet, Fitz. You wouldn't know anything," Biana said with some sass in her voice. I don't even acknowledge how many people are here. I am focused on not falling down the stairs to face plant on my face. Not wearing heels raises the risk. Once I get to the bottom of the stairs, I look around and see Tam, Dex, Marella, Fitz, and Keefe, the cute blonde boy that's familiar. But I noticed that Fitz and Keefe were staring at me with wide eyes and open mouths.
Oh my gosh. This can't get any worse. See why I don't like looking pretty with all this stuff. I'm regretting all of this now, I kind of wish I didn't do the makeover. I probably look ridiculous, but by the looks on their faces, I don't think that's the case at all. This is going to feel long.
Keefe's POV:
We heard the girls coming down and then they appeared at the top of the stairs. As we had guessed, they were up there having their girl talk and doing makeovers. Biana looked like her usual queenly, sparkly self, which didn't surprise me in the slightest. The other girls also looked beautiful, but the moment I set my eyes on Sophie, my whole world changed.
Whoa. She is stunning, and definitely stands out from the other girls. They are all beautiful in their own way, but Sophie is on a whole other level. I'm feeling a sense of familiarity in my heart again. There's just something about her that I can't quite put my finger on, like there's something invisible blocking me from figuring it out.
But back to Sophie, her dress is perfect for her, her hair beautifully braided, and her makeup making her face look brighter and magical. She looks like a princess. Oh gosh, I can't take my eyes off her.
WHY ON EARTH IS SHE FAMILAIR!!
