The next day, Diane was all alone. She took Elizabeth's homework from the night before and passed it on time, and took notes for Elizabeth when there was something important to be discussed.
At lunch, Diane decided to surprise King and also checking on Meliodas for Elizabeth. So, she bought King a cheese bread and other snacks for the them from the cafeteria and headed to their classroom.
Once she was by the door, one of their classmates spotted Diane. "King! your girlfriend's at the door!"
Diane saw King's head immediately face the door with a smile. She saw that him, Ban and Meliodas were writing stuff and calculators were next to them, but Meliodas had more papers than the two.
King sighed in relief, walking over to Diane and hugged her for a bit and gave her a smile. "What're you doing here?"
"Was gonna check up on you guys, may I?" Diane asked, King nodded and led the way to their tables.
Diane handed them the snacks that she bought for them. "Thanks Diane~" Ban gave her a grin, opening a pack of chips.
Diane noticed that Meliodas was looking out the door, like he was looking for someone. "Looking for Elizabeth?"
Meliodas looked at her and nodded, "Yeah, where is she?"
"She's at home." Diane told him, and almost immediately she saw the worry in his eyes. "Whoa, she's okay, she just has things to do with her family." She lied, Elizabeth told her not to tell anyone.
Meliodas nodded, sighing in relief. "How are you guys holding up?" She changed the topic, "Surviving~" Ban shrugged.
"Slowly dying but is okay." Meliodas crossed his arms, "Drained." King sighed.
Diane pat his head, "You guys can do it. Anyway, I just came by to check on you guys, I'll be going."
"I'll walk you out." King told her and she waved goodbye at them. As soon as they were at the door, King faced her. Diane noticed and tried to avoid his gaze.
This was something that Diane was afraid of, King would always know if anyone was lying. "You lied."
Diane didn't face him still, "What happened to Elizabeth?" He asked.
Knowing that she couldn't escape his gaze and his questions, Diane sighed in defeat. "She fell and has a huge bruise and was sent to the hospital yesterday but was taken home after but she was told to stay at home and please don't tell Meliodas because Elizabeth told me so."
King blinked, "Wow."
"Please don't tell him, Elizabeth doesn't want him to worry." Diane told King. Sighing, King nodded. "Alright. I'll be going, i'll text you later." King gave her a smile and she waved as she walked down the stairs.
*
Elizabeth was at home, laying in bed. She hadn't touched her phone from last night, since she fell asleep as soon as Diane left.
When she did open her phone, she received 2 text messages from Meliodas. From two different times.
9:45 pm
Hey Elizabeth, I'm sorry I wasn't able to talk to you all day, or even texted at all. I was just overwhelmed with all the requirements that I wasn't able to touch my phone. But I just got home and I think you're asleep, but all I did today was do all my requirements. I didn't go to work either, I was at the library. I'm sorry I couldn't text, or anything. I'll make it up to you somehow, I hope you're doing fine!
7:00 am
Good morning Elizabeth! I hope your day goes well, I'll have another day filled with requirements, I'll text when I can.
Elizabeth smiled, but she also felt stupid for getting frustrated at Meliodas because he couldn't talk to her. But she was relieved to hear at least something from him.
Slowly rolling on her side, she went to get a book from her shelf. Once she got back, she got a text from Meliodas.
She checked the time, 1:12. He should have been in class.
Hey, are you okay?
Elizabeth smiled, but she knew she had to lie about what happened to her.
I'm alright! Did Diane check up on you? Don't worry, I'll probably be back in school by tomorrow.
Meliodas didn't reply after that, but she understood why. He was texting her in class, something they rarely ever do.
Elizabeth proceeded to read her book, until she eventully drifted to sleep.
Next thing she knew, he was waking up to the sound of ran drops hitting her window. The sound was soothing and she just laid on her bead, facing the ceiling.
"I wonder how the dinner will go?" She asked no one in particular. "I wonder if i'll be able to talk to Meliodas before the dinner."
She sighed. Yes, Meliodas was updating her any way he could, but for some reason, she just felt something.
Like something was missing.
She was missing him.
Even though she knew that it was for the best that she shouldn't pester him all day, but she wanted to talk to him and just be around him.
She felt so stupid, she felt so selfish but she couldn't help it. She wanted to support him. She is, but there was something in her head that she couldn't understand.
Her thoughts were once again disrupted but a text from Diane.
We have homework and I made notes for you, i'm on my way to your house.
Elizabeth rose her brow, looking at the time. She blinked a few times, "All I did today was eat, sleep and read a book but still fell asleep."
"So productive." She chuckled to herself, getting comfortable in her sheets while she waited for Diane.
When she arrived, though, all the fun and coziness had to leave and school work had been thrown at Elizabeth
"How's Meliodas, by the way?" Elizabeth asked Diane while she red through the notes.
"Fine? Like how we usually are when we're bombarded with homework." Diane shrugged, "But with a bit more stressed."
"Did you tell King?' Elizabeth asked, "Ye--" Diane cut herself off. Elizabeth chuckled, "I know you tell him everything, too."
Diane sighed in relief, "I thought you were gonna get mad, but I told him not to tell Meliodas."
"That's good, we have like 2 days to keep this secret." Elizabeth sighed, "Wait, how long do their hell weeks last?"
Diane thought for a bit, "It's like when we're on our period. First few days, it's all strong and then it slowly lessens."
"So, by Saturday, they have less things to do?" Elizabeth asked, Diane nodded. "Usually."
"Good, I don't want to just drag him to dinner while he's stressing over requirements." Elizabeth chuckled.
Diane gave her a smile, "I'm pretty sure he won't be."
