From 1.01 "Pilot", night in the woods, over the fog-covered forest floor.

Kacie: (voice over) "Previously on Worlds Colliding (The Vampire Diaries)"

From 3.09 "Homecoming", Stefan and Klaus's phone conversation.

"You took everything from me, Klaus," Stefan told him.

"Let bygones be bygones," Klaus told him. "Resentment gets old."

"Know what never gets old?" Stefan asked. "Revenge."

Klaus opened the truck, revealing that it was empty and the caskets were all gone. He realized who took them, angry. "No."

"What's the matter, Klaus?" Stefan asked. The caskets were in the basement of the witch house with him. "Missing something?"

From 3.11 "Our Town", in the basement of the witch house, Stefan, Damon, Kaylin, Nicola and Cristian were talking.

Nicola turned toward the coffins, walking between two of them. "Four sleeping Originals, five coffins. So, who is in the locked box?"

From 3.05 "The Reckoning", in Alaric's classroom, Tyler transformed.

Damon: (voice over from 3.06 Smells Like Teen Spirit) "He's been sired."

Klaus smirked.

Cristian: (voice over from 3.06 Smells Like Teen Spirit) "He feels loyal to Klaus because Klaus's blood created him."

From 3.10 "The New Deal", in the kitchen of the Gilbert House, Tyler, Liv and Jeremy were sitting at the table.

Elena and Alaric stood nearby.

"He released me from a curse that was ruining my life," Tyler told them.

From 2.11 "By the Light of the Moon", in the Lockwood Cellar, Tyler was in the process of transforming into a werewolf for the first time, screaming in agony.

Tyler: (voice over from 3.10 The New Deal) "I owe him for that."

From 3.11 "Our Town", in Klaus's Mansion, Klaus and Luke were talking.

"I want you to bite Liv Gilbert," Klaus told him.

"A hybrid bite will kill a vampire," Luke told him.

"Consider this me putting your undying loyalty to the test," Klaus told him.

From 3.11 "Our Town", in the cemetery by Miranda, Grayson, Jenna, John and Trina Thompson's graves, Luke had his back to Liv. He transformed, though he tried to stop it. "You were right not to trust me."

Liv looked at him in concern, realizing that something was going on that he didn't want her to see. "Luke?" She walked closer. "Are you okay?"

"I'm so sorry, Liv," Luke told her, breathing heavily.

"For what?" Liv asked, reaching out to touch his shoulder.

Luke couldn't fight the sire bond anymore, grabbing Liv by the arm, turning toward her, pulling her closer to bite her on the neck hard, making her groan a scream of pain.

From 3.11 "Our Town", outside City Hall, Kaylin and Klaus were arguing.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" Kaylin asked.

"I just want to get my family back," Klaus told her.

"And you're not going to get them back if Liv dies," Kaylin told him angrily.

From 3.11 "Our Town", in Cristian's room, Liv was lying in bed, covered in a sheen of thin sweat, closing her eyes weakly, breathing raggedly.

Klaus sat on the bed next to Liv. "Kaylin and I have come to a deal. No more hybrids in Mystic Falls, I get my family back, and I save Liv's life."

Cristian sat next to Liv, helping prop her up.

Liv took Klaus by the wrist, drinking his blood, transforming. She looked out of the window as she fed, seeing Alex outside, watching. She took another look, but Alex was gone. Liv was starting to believe that she hadn't seen her at all, but that it had been a hallucination.

From 3.11 "Our Town", outside the Gilbert House, Jeremy and Alaric got into the car, driving away.

Alex stepped out of hiding, watching them go. "Bye, Jeremy."

From 3.11 "Our Town", on Wickery Bridge, Alex and Nicola were talking.

Alex sighed. "This dimmer switch is a bitch."

Nicola chuckled at the way she had said it.

From 3.10 "The New Deal", in the alley behind the Grill, Alex rushed toward the hybrid, pushing him against the wall, punching her hand into his chest to grip his heart. She ripped out his heart, killing him, backing away from the body, watching it fall to the ground.

Alex: (voice over from 3.11 Our Town) "One minute, I can feel nothing at all, and it feels good."

From 3.11 "Our Town", at night on Wickery Bridge, Elena started to break down, walking toward Alex, falling into her sister's arms, crying harder than she had been, leaning into her shoulder.

Alex was surprised and confused with the conflicted emotions of the dimmer switch, slowly starting to return the embrace, and then finishing it with less hesitancy, closing her eyes.

Alex: (voice over from 3.11 Our Town) "And then the other minute, I'm feeling too much, and it's like it's crushing me down."

From 3.11 "Our Town", on Wickery Bridge, Alex and Nicola were talking.

"If you're having an existential crisis of this magnitude, you're not as far gone as you think," Nicola told her. "You're not as far gone as we all thought. Let me help you."

They smiled small smiles.

Witch Dream

Day - Mystic Falls Cemetery

Lindsey walked through the cemetery, walking past a headstone for Courtney Davis, her mother, Danny Davis, presumably her father, Sheila Bennett, Grams, Emily Bennett, and others. She saw a coffin sitting above ground, placing her hand on it.

Bonnie appeared behind her. "Lindsey."

Lindsey turned to face her. "Bonnie?"

"I need help to figure out how to open it," Bonnie told her. "Can you help me?"

Lindsey turned to face the coffin, slowly opening it.

---

Coffin

Lindsey was in the coffin, using her cell phone's screen to illuminate the inside of the casket. She was terrified, screaming for help, banging on the lid. "Let me out! Please! Oh, my God." She took a deep breath to calm down, closing her eyes to focus on a spell. "Fes patrus tribum, melan veras, et vasa quisa, exu quisa." She banged furiously on the coffin when the spell didn't work. She stopped, hearing footsteps outside the coffin. "Hey! I'm in here! I'm in here. I'm in here!"

Bonnie opened the coffin.

Lindsey looked at her in relief, breathing deeply.

Reality

Day One

Morning - Witch House - Basement

Lindsey and Bonnie were standing together next to the coffins.

"I've been having these dreams for days now," Lindsey told her. "It's like the witches are trying to send me a message."

"Yeah, they seem to do that a lot," Bonnie told her. "Couldn't they make the messages a little easier to comprehend?"

Lindsey scoffed. "I wish. Why didn't you tell me about this before, Bonnie? I would have helped you."

"Because I wanted to keep you out of it," Bonnie answered. "I wanted to protect you, Lindsey."

Lindsey chuckled. "Well, thank you, Bonnie. But I can handle myself fine. And it looks like the witches don't want me to stay out of this one."

Bonnie sighed. "Yeah, I guess."

Nicola and Elena walked closer, looking at the coffins.

"I just can't believe that you guys kept this from me this whole time," Elena told them.

"Stefan thought if you knew where the coffins were, Klaus could threaten people to get the information out of you," Nicola explained.

"Like Liv?" Lindsey asked. "And Jeremy? Oh, wait, he already tried to kill both of them."

"So, these are the rest of his family?" Elena asked.

"Yeah," Nicola answered. "Elijah, Kassandra and two others. This one..." She looked down at the locked coffin. "Is the one we can't open."  She tried and failed to open it just to prove her point. "We don't know who is in it, or what's in it, only that I think the witches are trying to tell us it'll help us kill Klaus."

Stefan walked in. "What the hell are you doing?"

"Lindsey has been having the same dreams as Bonnie, Stefan," Nicola told him. "The witches want Lindsey to help her. And she needed Elena to know about the coffin."

"And I needed you all to keep her out of it, Nikki," Stefan told her.

"So what are you gonna do, Stefan?" Nicola asked. "Are you gonna kidnap her, so that she won't tell anyone?"

"Don't tempt me, Nicola," Stefan told her.

"Shut up, Stefan," Nicola told him in annoyance.

Lindsey ignored him, picking up a grimoire, looking at Bonnie. "Is this the grimoire that you've been using the spells from to try and open the locked coffin?"

"Yeah," Bonnie answered. "I've tried all of them. Nothing is working."

Lindsey pointed at a symbol in the grimoire. "This symbol, it means a spell requires two generations of witches. We're only from one generation."

"Which means..." Bonnie trailed off.

"Which means that I can help you, but we need help from another witch, too," Lindsey answered. "And I don't have another generation of witches in my family. Both of my parents were witches, and both of them are dead."

Elena and Nicola looked at Lindsey in sympathy.

Stefan sighed. "Lindsey, what other witch from another generation can help you two open the coffin?"

Lindsey looked at Bonnie. "Your mother."

Gilbert House - Kitchen

Liv, Lindsey, Bonnie and Elena were sitting at the table, looking through files to try to find Bonnie's mother.

"Los Alamitos?" Elena asked.

"Too old," Bonnie answered.

"Honolulu?" Elena asked.

"I wish," Bonnie told them.

"How many of these are there?" Liv asked.

"A lot," Lindsey answered. "I asked the sheriff's office to pull up every single Abby Bennett in the county."

"I know we haven't been able to really... that things had been weird, because of Jeremy, so, thank you for helping me with this," Bonnie told them. "I know you have a lot to deal with."

"There's nothing more important, Bonnie," Elena told her.

"It's surreal," Bonnie told them. "Having to track down a woman who bailed on her own kid."

"You and Alex would know how that feels, right, Elena?" Liv asked. Elena tilted her head at Liv. Liv looked at Bonnie and Lindsey. "You know that you don't have to help us with the coffin and Klaus, right? Let Stefan obsess over opening up the coffin. It doesn't have to fall on you."

"The coffin is spelled shut," Lindsey told her. "That makes it a witch problem. And the witches from the house won't let us sleep in peace without giving us witch dreams commanding us to do their bidding, so yes, Liv, it does fall on us."

Bonnie sighed. "I was bound to see my mother again sooner or later."

Damon walked in. "Sooner." Liv rolled her eyes. "Abby Bennett Wilson, Monroe, North Carolina. Born in Mystic Falls Hospital, graduated at Mystic Falls High... blah blah blah." Damon handed Bonnie the paper. "A little compulsion helps speed up the research process."

Liv stood. "Yeah, you seem to be using a lot of compulsion lately."

Liv tried to walk out.

Damon grabbed her arm. "Little Liv, you can't be pissed at me forever."

"I'm sorry, have you seen any of my angry outbursts?" Liv replied.

"Compelling Jeremy was for the best," Damon told her.

"Yeah, taking his freedom really does sound like it's for the best," Liv told him sarcastically.

"Liv," Elena told her in warning.

Liv exhaled.

"This is her," Bonnie told them.

"Yep," Damon told them. "Road trip. I call shot gun."

"Yeah, no," Elena told him, standing.

"Want me to hang out in the back with you?" Damon asked.

"You're not coming, Damon," Elena told him.

"Why?" Damon asked. "I'm the one who found her."

"Okay, Damon, look," Elena told him. "Bonnie hasn't seen her mom in over 15 years, who happens to be distantly related to Lindsey also. We don't need your snarky commentary narrating the experience."

Damon and Elena looked at each other for a long time.

"What's going on with you two?" Lindsey asked.

"It's definitely something a lot more than usual," Liv told them.

Damon looked at Liv, Bonnie and Lindsey. "We kissed. Now it's weird." Liv blinked, opening her mouth, but no sound came out. "Have a great trip."

Damon walked out, leaving.

Liv, Bonnie and Lindsey looked at Elena.

Elena sighed.

Cristian's House - Living Room

Cristian was here, going through things in his living room. He looked up when he sensed something. "What the hell do you want, Klaus?"

Klaus walked in. "Well, for starters, a little manners. I know, I know, Cristian. After what I had Luke Thompson do to Liv Gilbert, of course you're not wanting to be polite to the man that almost got your girlfriend killed, Hunter."

"Damn right," Cristian agreed. "So what are you doing here?"

"Well, I need to have a meeting with one of the Salvatores, and since Kaylin is the one that I've recently made a deal with, I need to see her," Klaus answered. "And I can't go inside her home because Nicola would never invite me in."

"Duh," Cristian told him.

"And Kaylin is not answering her phone when I call," Klaus added.

"I wonder why that is," Cristian told him sarcastically.

Klaus saw Cristian's phone on the table, picking it up, tossing it to Cristian. "So you call her. Have Kaylin come over here, Cristian. I need to have a word with your best friend. Now."

Cristian sighed, rolling his eyes.

Forbes House - Living Room

Eliza and Caroline walked in.

"What do you want to show me, Eliza?" Caroline asked in a complaint. "Just tell me. What is it?"

Eliza stopped in the doorframe, looking forward. "Kacie and Tyler."

Caroline followed Eliza's gaze to Tyler and Kacie. "What are you doing here?"

"We came here to get help," Kacie answered.

"Help?" Caroline repeated. "Help for what?"

"For me," Tyler answered. "I talked to Luke about what happened with Liv. Klaus told Luke to bite her, and he said no. And then... it just happened anyway. It was completely out of his control. I don't want that to happen to me if Klaus tells me to hurt one of my friends. Or you."

Kacie sighed. "Eliza?"

Eliza looked past Tyler toward the other doorway. "That's why they had me call him."

Bill walked in.

"Daddy?" Caroline asked.

"Hi, Caroline," Bill told her. "Hi, Eliza."

"I thought, since Dad can resist compulsion, maybe he could teach Tyler to resist the sire bond," Eliza explained. "And then maybe after that, we can teach Luke how to do the same, so that nothing like this ever happens again."

Caroline looked at Bill. "Can you help them?"

"I'm gonna try," Bill told them.

"Why?" Caroline asked.

"Because they both made a mistake and now they want to make good," Bill answered. "And I understand that."

Mystic Grill

(Song:) Code Red - The Boxer Rebellion

Alaric and Dr. Meredith Fell were talking and drinking.

"Do you want anything else?" Alaric asked. "A beer?"

"I'd love one, but I've got rounds in fifteen minutes, and a drunk doctor is a bad doctor," Meredith told him.

"Well, depends on what kind of drunk you are," Alaric told her.

"Angry," Meredith answered. They laughed. "Thanks for lunch."

"Yeah, sure," Alaric told her. "So, next time, dinner?"

Meredith nodded. "Yeah, that would be great."

"Cool," Alaric told her. "Take care."

"Bye," Meredith told him. "Thanks."

Meredith walked away, passing Damon by on her way toward the door, leaving.

Damon walked up to Alaric. "Who's that?"

"My doctor," Alaric answered. "And apparently Nicola's doctor, too."

"She's a doctor?" Damon asked.

"Mm-hmm," Alaric answered.

"What's the damage?" Damon asked.

Alaric shook his head. "No damage."

"Come on, Ric, a fact of life," Damon told him. "A girl that hot, that smart... damage."

"Well, I'm looking for red flags," Alaric told him. "Her ex called her a psycho case the other day."

"Yeah, but if it comes from her ex, doesn't count," Damon told him.

"Yeah, I guess you're right," Alaric told him.

Damon sighed. "She's Nikki's doctor?" Alaric nodded. "Nikki hates hospitals. Never goes to them unless she absolutely has to, and normally, that's against her will or when she's unconscious." Damon picked up a notebook from the table, opening it, tossing it to Alaric. "That's yours."

Alaric sighed. "I wonder what my exes would call me?"

"Nothing," Damon answered. "They're all dead."

Alaric gave him a look. "Huh. Well, her ex is the medical examiner so he is dead adjacent."

"She dated the medical examiner?" Damon asked.

"Mm-hmm," Alaric answered.

"Well, I don't think he's dead adjacent," Damon told him. "I think he's just dead."

"What?" Alaric asked.

Damon nodded. "Murdered. Sheriff is trying to keep a lid on it because he was staked in the chest like a vampire."

"Well, Meredith didn't say anything about that," Alaric told him.

"Well, red flag number two," Damon told him.

"Who do you think killed him?" Alaric asked.

"I don't know," Damon told him. "But if I was a cop, your sexy doctor lady friend would definitely be a suspect."

Alaric frowned in confusion, troubled.

Cristian's House - Living Room

(Song:) Lonely Boy - The Black Keys

The loud rock music was playing from the stereo.

Cristian was standing at a table, pouring himself a glass of bourbon, looking annoyed beyond compare.

Kaylin walked in, closing the door behind her, looking at Cristian. "Hey, Cris. Why did you call me to tell me to come here?"

Cristian nodded toward the couches. "Why do you think? Kaylin. Get him to leave."

Cristian took a drink.

Kaylin looked toward where Klaus was sitting on one of the couches.

Klaus smirked.

Kaylin sighed, walking closer. "What are you doing here, Klaus?"

"Enjoying our stalemate," Klaus answered.

"Why did you have Cristian call me over here?" Kaylin asked.

"Because you were avoiding my calls, and I knew Nicola would never invite me into your home," Klaus answered.

Kaylin nodded in acknowledgement, sighing.

Cristian turned the music down. "What do you want?"

Klaus looked at Kaylin. "The question is, what does your brother want? I saved Liv Gilbert's life, admittedly after I forced Luke Thompson to bite her, but my hybrids left town, and he's gone missing again. I can't seem to find him, and he won't answer my calls. So, please tell me where I can find him and what I need to do to get my family back."

"Well, see, Klaus..." Kaylin trailed off, sitting down on the couch across from him. "I really have no idea where he is, because he's been
