Your arms were on fire, your nerves were screeching at you. You tried to flex your fingers, but they were numb. Your eyes shot open, and there you saw him, Seek. Standing over you. "You're awake!" Seek said happily, walking over to the side of the bed to lean over you.
You weren't scared, you were confused, confused by Seek's actions, confused by the situation. What had happened? Why had he done what he had did? "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to, I promise." Seek explained, stressed as he looked over your worn body.
"It's... It's ok." You said bluntly as you attempted to sit up, it was then drawn to your attention that your left upper arm was wrapped tightly in white bandages. Looking down at the damage done to your arms you couldn't ignore the blood that dripped down your broken arm.
Lifting your other hand to prod around your wounds you then realized that your arm was broken. You remember that sickening snap as Seek's strength destroyed your bones so easily. The way his claws tore into your skin.
It made you nervous to be around the large entity, sure he was sorry about it, but why had he done it? Seek's words sat in your mind, an uncomfortable distaste lingering in your mouth as you thought about the meaning behind it.
"We need to continue onward." You said at last, sitting up using your right arm to help prop yourself up.
"But you aren't fit!" Seek argued as he reached out to you, but initially pulled back for fear of hurting you once again.
"I know, but I haven't eaten or had water in... In quite a while. Since I got here, I haven't had anything to sustain me. We need to continue onward, I need to get to a hospital, food, water. I can't get that here." You explained to Seek who realized that this was indeed true.
"You're right. We don't have much farther to go anyway, 13 doors left." Seek recalled, holding his hand out to help you up. You gratefully took it, still a little uneasy about Seek's sudden chase. The rooms of the doors confused you as well, were they always there, waiting for you to pass by? Or did it only happen when Seek was chasing you with the intent to kill?
"Look, I'm not mad at you, just confused. I just want to get out." You told Seek as you gained your balance, "let's go." stalking off out of the room you pushed forward. But now it felt like there was an entity at every door.
Halt had even decided to show themself chasing after you with their weird bug-like sounds. It definitely was a sound that you wouldn't get used to, nor was it a sound you wished to hear again.
Seek only trailed after you, warning you cautiously of any signs that the other entities were going to show themself. You were thankful, but you were driven on by your dry mouth and churning stomach.
Eventually the two of you reached door 99. Looking back at Seek who brightened up, giving you two thumbs-up he led the way for you.
But as soon as he opened the door you were met with a gray room. A large lever on the garage-like door was across from you. Shelves were place in the room to hold boxes, coins and even a few flashlights.
You looked at Seek who went to stand beside the lever, beckoning you forward with hurried sweeps of his hand.
But as soon as you stepped up to the lever you heard a very faint growl. You stopped in your movements, hand frozen in the air as you listened more closely. You looked over at Seek who was also staring at the door. His eye flicked to your own, as he waited for your next decision.
Maybe you were hearing things? Maybe you were nervous? Seek deciding to make a move for you opened the door. He barged past you, grabbing your hand as he ran into the new area. There you saw Figure. Large, Huge, Lumbering and absolutely pissed. But just as you crossed the threshold you tripped, and Seek's hand slipped from your own.
Momentum carried him up the stairs, Figure ignoring his presence completely. Tearing the railing from its spot he jumped down the stairwell. The stairs under him breaking from sheer impact. He reached forward, stubby hands trying to gain a stable grasp on the flat floor.
Seek looked at you, reaching a hand of his own out toward you, but evidently pulled away as Figure hauled is body up. You turned into the previous room, Figure's snarling growing into rage-filled roars as you ran away.
You weren't going to be able to outrun him. You already knew that. The previous encounter had given you just a taste of Figure's speed despite his towering size. All that was left was to hide. It hadn't gone all too well last time, but maybe this time you had a chance.
You crashed into the nearest closet, opening it with terror pulsing in your body. You could hear Figure's rapidly approaching footsteps, but they faded quickly. There you remembered that Figure couldn't see, of course he didn't see you enter the closet.
Caught up in your whirling thoughts you hardly noticed that it was safe to leave. Seek pulled you from the closet, making sure to keep a firm grasp on you as you stumbled out. "That was close! I'm sorry I let you slip. That was... That was too close." Seek told you, apologizing as much as he could still feeling absolutely terrible for almost leaving you to die.
"It's ok! It's ok... We're ok, right?" You patted Seek's shoulder, stumbling away from him as he hurried to the area Figure was guarding.
"I'm so glad you were able to hide without Figure noticing." Seek commented as he followed you up the light metal stairs, no wonder Figure had absolutely crashed right through them in his lunge.
There you saw an elevator, hurrying over to it in a hopeful jog you pressed the button. It didn't move. Looking up, down and all around you noticed a key. A key that must lead to something important regarding the elevator, perhaps the reason the elevator wasn't moving.
Picking the key up you examined it. It wasn't like the other keys; all the others had had some kind of tag attached telling you which door it belonged to. This one was tagless and didn't have a single word or number engraved into it.
Confused you looked around the small room. Not a single door. You walked out and down the little path that led to the stairs. Then you saw a door. In hope you dropped down the stairs 3 at a time.
Shoving the key into the lock you swung the door open. It was almost empty. A breaker was on the far side wall, which seemed a bit sketchy, but you weren't going to say anything.
Walking over to it you knelt down and opened the panel. "Do you know how to do this?" You asked Seek who was leaning over your shoulder, hands clasped behind his back.
"You wouldn't be mad if I said no, right?" Seek replied hesitantly as a sequence of numbers appeared on the screen. Deciding that the filled in square meant that you should switch them on you got through the process quite easily.
When you finished the first phase you swore you heard a generator start up, a soft hum on the other side of the wall beside you. You started the second phase when you heard a loud bang. Your head jolting its focus away from the device you looked toward the doorway.
"Figure. He's come back." Seek said quickly as he flipped a few switches for you. Second phase done. A third one started, how many were there? Were you going to be able to do them all in time before Figure came barging in?
Your question was answered when you heard the door burst open forcefully. You could hear the door splinter as Figure broke the door. Your finger flicking one more switch, the bar began to move, but Seek dragged you away and up the stairs. "It's not done!" You shouted at Seek who didn't seem interested in letting you go back.
Seek tossed you into the elevator, Figure just making his way through the doorway behind the two of you. Figure let out a loud roar that even Seek turned around to take notice in Figure who was charging at him.
You heard a third generator start up and hope fluttered in your stomach. You pressed the button as quickly as your body would allow you. The door closed and the elevator took action. But you had just left Seek behind. Figure was slamming Seek into the floor as the tiny character fought back with his claws.
It was hopeless. Figure was a behemoth compared to Seek, the only thing Seek had against Figure was sight, but even then, Figure moved like he could see all. Figure's overpowering senses put Seek at a huge disadvantage, a disadvantage Seek couldn't make up.
The elevator started rocketing downward, nervous that you might be going in the wrong direction you decided it was better than being on the other floor. The floor you had met Seek, but also the floor that the angry entity lurked.
Well, it didn't lurk there anymore. Figure's large body slammed into the elevator, the caged steel bending under his weight. Seek came down shortly after Figure, landing on top of the massive entity that locked him into his tight grip.
Figure rolled off the elevator and on a separate floor taking Seek with him in the motion. The elevator made no motion to stop, and you could only watch as it drew closer and closer to the floor.
You had thought escaping was better, if this was the only way to 'escape' you weren't sure you actually wanted freedom.
You couldn't think when the elevator slammed into the floor, your body flying from impact onto another floor. Your head hitting the floor as your body slid on the floor.
Your body was alight with pain, and your chances of escaping seemed lower than ever.
Your point only proven when everything went dark.
Your pain residing all too quickly.
