Chapter Twenty Seven

Jared rode in the front seat of the cruiser, looking anxiously for Angie’s car. Ridly kept sighing, and turning the car wheel. “This isn’t going to work,” Ridly told him and then grumbled, “I can’t believe I’m even doing this…”

“That’s her,” Jared yelled, “I know that’s her!”

Ridly set on his sirens, and sped up a little. The car in front of them pulled over slowly, and then pulled to a complete stop. Jared saw Angie ran her hands through her hair, and then look around for her purse. “Let me burrow that hat,” Jared order.

Ridly stared at him with wide eyes before he sighed again loudly, and handed Jared the officer’s hat. Jared smiled, and said, “Let’s hope this works.”

          “It better,” Ridly grumbled.

Jared slapped the hat on his head, and got out of the car. He slowly strode towards Angie’s car. She had the window rolled down, and she kept wiping under her eyes. “Was there a problem officer?” Angie murmured, holding out her license.

“Yes there was ma’am,” Jared said in a deep voice, “And I’m going to need you to step out of the car.”

          “What?” She asked.

“Please step out of the car ma’am,” Jared ordered. Angie let out a sob, and slowly stepped out into the darkness. There were only a few cars out, and their headlights weren’t that great of light.

“What’s the problem officer?” Angie snapped, but not too harshly.

“Well maybe it was because you just left the house without an explanation let alone a goodbye…” Jared explained, and then smiled.

“What’re you…” She started, and then lifted the hat off of his head. “Jared, what’re you doing here?” She asked.

“You left the house without saying good bye to me,” He repeated, “Why would you do that?”

“I was angry,” She muttered, crossing her arms over her chest, “You promised me you wouldn’t hurt me or your family again.”

“It wasn’t me,” Jared told her, “It was Ethan and Lisa. They framed me, but luckily they caught it all on tape. I got off the hook, which means you can have your money back.”

Jared pushed the money towards her. She pushed it back. “I don’t want it,” She muttered as he tried to push it into her hands again.

“Take it,” He insisted, “And I want you to have this too.” Jared held up the long lost necklace and Angie burst into real tears. They slid down her face and left her body shaking. “Don’t cry,” He whispered, “Please don’t cry.”     He pulled her into a tight hug, and pressed her against his chest.

Her shaking slowed, and she took in deep breaths. “I’m sorry,” She apologized, pulling away. Jared wiped away her tears with his thumb. Then he lifted up the necklace, and hooked it around her neck. It shined, and made Jared smile.

“I can’t believe you found it,” She gasped, “I saw it in your room, but it still was so shocking to me. How did you find it?”

“I searched for hours, and days,” He confessed, “And I was going to give it to you but you just didn’t come back.”

“Why did you do it?” She asked, looking up at him with long eyelashes.

“Because even though I didn’t realize it at the time,” He whispered, “I’ve always loved you, and I always will. I really want you to come back with me, please.”

“I can’t leave my life in New York,” She told him.

“Then come back on weekends, and breaks,” He insisted.

Angie pouted, and looked at the ground. “I don’t know,” She muttered, “It’ll be so much.”

“Then I’ll make trips to New York too. This could work, come on Gela,” He begged, “My Angel, please.” Since she still looked uncertain, he pulled her closer, and kissed her urgently on the lips. She stood stiff for a moment, and then responded. She held him tightly to her, like she needed him. She needed to be close to him and kiss him. He needed her too, the same way he needed her.

“I swear it wasn’t me,” He whispered against her lips with his forehead pressed to hers. “I wouldn’t hurt you like that. I will never hurt you.”

          “Are you serious?” She asked.

“I swear it to you,” He whispered and then repeatidly pecked her on the lips until she was laughing and had to pull away to breathe. “Please come home with me,” Jared begged, “Stay a little longer. It’ll make everyone happy, especially me.”

Angie bit down on her lip, and smiled. “Alright,” She sighed.

“We’ll make it work,” He promised and then pressed his lips to hers once more. “I’ll be right back,” He whispered. Angie nodded and Jared kissed her again before he ran over to Officer Ridly. “Hey,” Jared smiled, “I’m going to drive Angie home. Thanks so much for your help.”

“No problem,” Ridly nodded, “But it’s not happening again. I didn’t become an officer to do favors for lost love.” Jared rolled his eyes and was about to walk away before Ridly called his name again. “Just to let you know,” He told Jared, “That we caught your friends. The girl was so panicked she confessed to anything. It didn’t matter that she did though because the other loser had all the money in his pockets.”

Jared laughed and smiled at him. He held out his hand and shook Ridly’s hand tightly. “Thanks for all you’ve done,” Jared exclaimed, “Really, thank you.”

“No problem,” Ridly nodded, “I don’t want to see you in my station ever again though, is that clear?”

“Crystal,” He answered before he waved and ran back over to Angie. Jared got in the driver’s seat of Angie’s car while she got into the passanger side before they drove off.

It was a long car ride, but Jared didn’t care. He got to look at Angie and hear her joyful singing, and hold her hand too. He was glad that he got to be with her alone.

On their way home, it slowly started to rain. “I love the rain,” Angie mused.

          “Isn’t it depressing?” Jared asked.

“No, it’s peaceful,” She explained, “Its warm, a steady beat of rain that if you listen to carefully, you can hear the song it’s playing. It’s also calming.”

“Rain plays a song?” Jared asked.

“Yeah, listen,” She laughed. So Jared cocked his head to the side, and listened intently to the rain. It pattered on the ground and on the car roof. It was a fast beat, but Jared could hear a little melody out of it.

So Jared smiled, and started humming. He pretended he was humming to the tune the rain was singing. Angie smiled brightly, and started humming too. They were humming different things, but it seemed like the tunes went together.

After awhile of driving, humming, singing, and hand holding, they were home. Jared turned the car off, and they were met by the rest of his family. Angie hugged each of them, but Maya held onto her the longest. “Don’t you ever leave this house again without saying good bye,” She ordered. Maya pulled back, and looked Angie firmly in the eyes. Angie smiled and nodded.

“Please stay longer,” Kate begged, “I love having you here. Please stay longer!”

“Alright,” Angie sighed, “But only if you guys want me too.”

          “Oh we do,” Kate smiled.

Jared wrapped his arms around Angie’s waist, and whispered, “Yes we do. I do.”

          Angie smiled, and blushed.

“Well come on in,” Maya said, “It’s pouring, and you’re going to catch a cold.” Kate and Allie ran into the house with Maya following them. Angie started to follow them, but Jared pulled her back into his arms.

“We’re going to catch a cold,” She warned him.

“Cold shmold,” He smiled, “There’s something I’ve got to tell you Gela.”

He held his arms tightly around her waist, and held her tightly to him. She looked into his bright green eyes, and saw the joy she didn’t see when she first got here. In just a few days, Jared had turned around, and it was because of her. She saved him, and saved his family the heartache they would have felt.

“Yes?” She asked, batting her eyelashes.

“I love you Angela Nicolson,” He whispered, “I really do love you.”

“I love you Jared Shay,” She murmured, “I really do love you.” Jared smirked, and then kissed her.

She stood on her tippy toes so he wouldn’t have to lean down like he normally did. He smiled between their lips, but continued to kiss her. Maya came out of the house, and just looked at them. Jared knew she wanted to interrupt them, but she didn’t.

Maya just turned around, went back in the house, and let Jared and Angie continue to kiss in the rain.
