On with the new chapter:)
Chapter Two
Present-
The roads were clear, which just pissed Angie off. She was stalling as best should to get to the shore house and traffic was her only hope. Angie needed time to think and sort things out before she got back to the shore house. With Angie's luck though the roads were perfectly clear.
Angie couldn't believe she was doing this. She couldn't believe she was coming back. Coming home. The shore had always been home, and when she left for good, a part of her was ripped out.
Now Jess, Angie's Mom, was forcing her to go back. Because Jess couldn't be there, Angie had to. She turned the wheel, and saw a familiar sign. WELCOME TO SEABROOK it said in large bold letters. The sign made her frown, because there was weird graffiti on it- a large big circle with the letter J in the middle. Angie wondered what it could possibly mean, but didn't focus on it to long.
Angie drove through familiar streets, noticing the houses and stores that never changed. Angie was close to turning the car around and heading home. She didn't want to be there. Even though Izzy promised to be down one day soon, Angie still thought this was a really bad idea. Izzy was the only one who knew how awful this trip could turn out. As they grew older, they grew closer. Angie told her everything, and Izzy felt her pain. She promised she would be there in time.
Finally Angie had to look at the side of the road, and count the mailboxes. The old house in Seabrook didn't have a number on the mailbox, in fact hardly any of them did. So she slowly drove down the road, and counted out the mailboxes.
Then she came to lucky number 13. Her breath caught in her throat, and she gripped the steering wheel tightly. "You can do this Angie," She whispered to herself, "It's not that hard. Just put on your big girl panties, and drive down the driveway."
So Angie pressed her foot onto the gas pedal, and slowly turned down the gravel driveway. It was rocky, but then again, it always had been. She held tightly to the wheel, and took in deep breaths.
As Angie got further down the driveway she realized she couldn't do this. She couldn't be here. She was about to turn around when Maya and Katherine came bursting out of the house with wide smiles on their faces.
With a deep breath Angie stopped the car and turned it off at the end of the driveway. She got out of the car with a fake smile on her face. "That driveway gets longer every time!" She chuckled as she took the sunglasses off of her face and on top of her head.
"Angela," Katherine yelled, and then rushed towards her. Angie slammed the car door shut, and opened her arms to Katherine.
Kate was three years younger than Jared, and always hung around them when they were younger. Two years later Allison was born, and Katherine switched to loving her, and wanting to hang with her.
Kate's arms wrapped around Angie's neck, and held Angie close to her. "I missed you so much," Kate cried, "It hurts to see you now." That made Angie smiled, and she just hugged Kate tighter.
When they pulled away, Kate was smiling. Tears were in the slits of Kate's eyes, so Angie kissed her on the head. "Look at you," Angie gushed, "You're so big, and tall!"
"And with breast!" Kate cried, like it was some accomplishment.
Angie chuckled, "Where's Allie?"
"At a friend's house," Kate answered, "She'll be home soon." Angie didn't even bother to ask about Jared.
Kate stepped aside, and Angie stared at Maya.
This was why Angie came home. To be able to see her second Mother. The Mother who always had a gentle voice after Angie had been yelled at. The Mother with cold hands, and was always fragile. She would hold Angie in her arms, and sing to her when Jess refused too. Maya was Angie's second Mother, and it had always been that way.
Angie ran towards Maya, who had open arms. Angie was once again pulled into the warm embrace of her second Mother. Maya's cold hands were gently resting on her back, but her warm arms and torso were all that mattered.
"I'm so sorry," Angie cried, "I'm so sorry for your loss."
"Don't be baby," Maya whispered, "It was time for him to go."
"It should never be time for anyone to go," Angie answered.
"It's just good to have you home Angela," Maya whispered. The whisper was close to her ear, and her breath was warm. When Angie pulled away, she saw the tears glistening in her eyes too. Angie rested her hand on Maya's cheek, and Maya just sighed into it.
"Come on Angela," Kate cheered, "I'll show you to your room. It's the same room you had years ago, but I'll help you with your bags."
Angie nodded her head. They grabbed Angie's suitcases from her trunk, took Kate's hand, and walked into the house. It was the same as it had always been. It had old furniture, with patterned wallpaper. You could see the kitchen from the living room, and there were only two floors.
Kate pulled Angie's hand harder, and dragged her up the stairs. The second floor was exactly how she remembered. Four bedrooms- Maya, Jared, one that Kate and Allie shared, and the guest room that Jess and Angela always stayed in. It wasn't just a beach house; it was a home for the Shay family.
Angie was pulled to the end of the hallway, to the room where Jess and she normally stayed. Angie took a deep breath before opening the bedroom door. It was the same as she had left it, with forgotten toys at the bottom of the closet. Sheets were tangled together on a chair in the corner. Jess's bed was made neatly yet Angie's bed was made the way she always liked it was a kid- with the sheets on top.
Angie held Kate tightly and hugged Kate tightly. Kate kissed the side of Angie's head, and held tightly to her shoulders. "Come on," She whispered, "Let's start unpacking your stuff." Together they unpacked Angie's stuff, only a few things here and there.
Angie put her arm around Kate's shoulders, and they walked back outside to get the few things left in her car. Maya was standing by Angie's car in a daze. "You alright Maya?" Angie asked, putting her hand on Maya's shoulder.
"Just thinking," She answered.
"Are you sure?" Angie asked, rubbing her hand on Maya's shoulder.
"Oh I'm fine Hon," She assured her.
Angie hugged Maya tightly for comfort. Maya patted her back, and then pulled back to look at her. Maya smiled.
"Come on Angela," Kate called, pulling out one of Angie's bags.
"You can call me Angie if you want," She responded, "At least, that's what everyone's called in me now."
"Angie," Kate corrected with a sly smile. She looked just like Jared and her Father. Her hair was dark black, and went to her waist. It was wavy and looked peaceful, like it wasn't much of a hassle. Her eyes were a light green, and her eyebrows were perfectly arched. Her lips were red and plump and her nose small and perfect.
Kate had been beautiful ever since she was a kid. Unlike Angie who was butt ugly, and finally broke away from it and became beautiful. Now guys were chasing after her, but none of them felt right. She dated, but she just hadn't dated the right one yet.
Angie walked over to the car, and pulled out a few of her bags. She loaded them onto her arms, not wanting to make a second trip. "Oh get one of those bags Kate," Maya ordered.
"No it's alright, I got it," Angie laughed, "Don't worry." Kate grabbed one of the bags anyway, and they started walking back towards the house.
There was a loud sound, like a motorcycle engine. Angie stopped in her tracks, and listened to the sound. She had never heard a motorcycle in Seabrook. It just didn't mix well with it.
The motorcycle slid down the gravel driveway, throwing rocks everywhere, and then slid to stop before Maya. The kid on the motorcycle turned off the bike, and looked up at Angie.
"Who is that?" Angie whispered.
"That's Jared silly," Kate laughed, and ran to her older brother. Jared pulled off his helmet, and shook his head, making his black hair fall into his face. His eyes slowly made way towards the house, and rested on Angie.
He smiled, and asked, "Who the hell are you and why haven't we met before?"
"Jared, that's Angela," Maya whispered, and Jared's face fell.
