i sat down in the first open seat i saw on the bus; i was exhausted. everyone was already paired up with their friends or took up a whole seat on their own with all their things. show choir is extremely draining and i'm almost to the point of being sick of it. i do find it fun when it isn't crazy though. singing is fun i suppose... i would really prefer to have a band though. none of the songs we perform are good, and they barely have any meaning. as though to stop my internal monologue, someone sat down right next to me. he's got long shiny hair and looks pretty thin, but at least he isn't making fun of me.

"hello," the boy speaks.

he covers his mouth when he speaks, and he seems rather shy.

"hi" i reply back.

i've seen him around (i think?) im pretty sure i used to be friends with his brother...but that's besides the point.

"... what's your name?" i ask him, trying to break the awkwardness.

"jonny."

"mine's thom."

"that's a cool name."

he has a slight lisp. not the typical nerdy lisp, but something more subtle. it's kinda cute. cute? really thom, already?

"so...do you only sing, or do you play any instruments?" i ask, wanting to know more.

"i can play a few instruments...guitar, recorder, viola, piano. one instrument i'd really love to play is the ondes martenot. it's a rather old piece of junk, but it has a very beautiful and interesting sound. it has a loop that you put your finger in, and you slide across the board that has notes on it... it's really awesome. anyway, i'm sorry for rambling. do you play any instruments?" jonny said, his speech somewhat muffled by his seemingly ever-present hand at his mouth.

"yeah...i play guitar and piano. seems rather unimpressive compared to you i suppose." i muttered.

"that's not unimpressive! just because i play many instruments doesn't mean i'm great at them... you're probably a much better pianist and guitarist compared to me. i know you're most definitely a better singer!" jonny said, and it made me feel a little better. i'm not too sure if he actually thinks that or he's just saying it to make me feel better though. i've not really seen him before, and i don't know what he sounds like, so i can't imagine why he would pay attention to me. it was interesting seeing him speak about things so passionately though.

"well thank you, and i'm sure you aren't that bad of a singer, jonny." i responded

i sorta want to ask him to hang out, but i'm really not sure how to bring it up. i suppose i won't; he probably just sat by me because this was the only other open seat. i guess i'll just see him later in the dressing rooms...
