Demetri knew it would happen eventually. After all, Kahlen and him discussed this in the privacy of her room. But for a moment the tracker forgot when returning to the castle after an exhausting mission that left his once vibrant red eyes dark and needing to drink sooner than he preferred. And it was through that exhaustion that when Alec and him returned to report in, the tracker offered up his hand. Aro saw everything. Even things not regarding the mission. His surprised expression is what tipped off the tracker that something was wrong, brows furrowing as the leader stared at his pale hand before he realized the mistake. Their eyes met, the interaction catching the others' attention as they stared at the two before an amused expression settled onto Aro's face.

"Well now, Demetri," he mused. "This explains a lot."

Caius's brows narrowed. "What are you talking about, brother?"

Before he could answer a murmur came from one of the adjoining halls, watching as Kahlen and Jane entered conversing. The two paused from the state of the throne room when the hunter noticed the interaction taking place. Demetri's hand lay in Aro's grasp, which made her heartbeat actually lurched. Something that didn't go unnoticed by the leader. His grin widened.

"The both of you have been hiding secrets," the vampire continued.

The young woman groaned lowly, pinching the bridge of her nose in mild annoyance. Demetri pulled free and moved down the steps of the small dais to stand beside Alec once more.

"Care to explain?" Caius asked. He grew irritated by the minute that they were being left in the dark.

Aro clapped his hands together, rubbing them almost in glee at the situation. The action surprised the witch twins. They shared a glance in confusion to what they may be missing. What did Demetri and Kahlen do that made the ruler act in such a way?

"We are in the presence of a very remarkable thing, brothers and sisters," Aro said. "Something that is very rare to our existence and those outside of it. They have been keeping this a secret for a while now right under our very noses."

Kahlen saw Marcus's lips slightly twitch in what one could call a smirk. But it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. It had her brow slightly cock at the emotion. As if Marcus was already aware of this before Aro.

"Blood singers," Aro said.

The room grew silent as those present expressed their shock in various ways. Minus the normally emotionless brother. Kahlen watched Jane's head snap so quickly in her direction she was surprised the skin didn't crack in the process. Alec's eyes even grew wide and lips slightly parted. Felix, eventually, full out grinned at the tracker with a smug look. He knew it all along. And Caius, well, after his surprise, appeared irritated. But they shouldn't have expected anything less from him as the blonde turned on his other brother.

"Did you know this, Marcus?" Caius questioned with narrowed brows.

"Only until recently did it become clear," Marcus answered. "But the two of them had to discover it for themselves. They are rather stubborn individuals."

Liar, Kahlen thought to herself. She could see right through him if the others couldn't. He was aware of something before Demetri and her were completely aware of it themselves. Though he never bothered to comment on it. He was sharper than she gave him credit for.

The young woman suddenly found Demetri at her side. The two shared a look before glancing at the brothers once more.

"This is not allowed," Caius continued. "It's against the law."

"So Kahlen has reminded me many times..." Demetri muttered.

Felix snickered.

"The Cullens were in the same situation once with Edward's wife, Bella. And she's now a vampire."

"That human wasn't a hunter and had the intention of being turned all along. She has no interest becoming one of us, as you've said," the blonde growled.

"Because I'd be dead quicker than it would take to turn into one of you," Kahlen finally spoke up.

"And if that wasn't the case?"

"It's not, so I can't answer that for you."

Caius turned to Aro. "This cannot be, brother. A mortal and vampire cannot exist together, and the Cullen Coven is proof of that."

"Kahlen is stronger than that," Aro defended. "And with her line of work, I don't think she has any intention of becoming pregnant."

The young woman sighed, while Demetri's lips twitched in a smirk. "It was not in my top five things to do while still alive," she answered.

"I approve of this union," Marcus stated.

"Of course you do," Demetri heard Caius mumble under his breath.

"As do I," Aro added. "But I wish you would have told us yourselves."

"We're still getting used to the idea," Demetri said. "Besides, we weren't sure how you'd react."

The hunter could have been banished from the castle, something he would not allow. Caius would probably push for that option the hardest. And also, Kahlen was a very private person. She wouldn't flaunt their involvement with each other around the castle like most humans did. Then again, he liked to keep his personal matters private as well. Maybe not as strict as her, but he didn't even tell Felix, one of his closest comrades within the Guard, of this. Though he had a hunch the brute grew skeptical.

"Hunters aren't allowed to have emotions towards those outside the community," Kahlen said. "Hell, even among ourselves it's limited. Can you blame me if I was against it?" She conducted herself with such professionalism Aro admired it.

"I still don't like it," Caius said.

Of course he didn't.

When they were all excused from the hall, Kahlen hoped Jane could return to the conversation they were having before. But the sister couldn't seem to focus now since the secret Aro told them. Alec appeared on Kahlen's other side, studying her carefully.

"What?" the young woman finally asked.

"Never knew you would go for a vampire," he finally said.

It earned a boisterous laugh from Felix, a smirk from Jane, and a head shake from Demetri. To their surprise Kahlen's cheeks tinted a slight pink.

"Have you had sex?" he then wondered.

That earned the witch twin a slap to the back of the head from the hunter. The action made him stumble. The others broke into fits of laughter. Demetri pulled the young woman to his side in an amused manner.

"As if I would tell you if we had," Kahlen grumbled with narrowed brows.

Alec grew amused. They all were, having never seen Kahlen this expressive in terms of embarrassment. Demetri inhaled, catching the hunter's scent. It made his throat burn a bit. As much as he enjoyed holding her close, they needed to separate or he would be tempted further to taste her.

"I am going to hunt," the tracker announced. "Alec."

As much as the witch twin would protest he didn't need it, a stern look from his sister sent the two leaving together, the three standing alone in the hallway.

"You know, I had a hunch," Felix spoke up when they were gone. "He was always around you when not asked to be."

"What does it feel like?" Jane suddenly asked. "To find your soulmate?"

"I didn't, at first, feel anything," Kahlen said. "Besides confusing human emotions maybe. But I didn't clearly notice it till Demetri told me the reasons behind his actions. It felt like a rush, and foreign at the same time. It's hard to explain, but I take it it's a different experience for a vampire. You may have to ask Demetri for a better explanation. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it myself."

"But do you like it?"

There was a beat of silence before the hunter truthfully answered, "Yes," and then added, "But don't tell Demetri that, it'll inflate his ego."

The two snickered.
