I sat wringing my hands, trying to relax my body before I had to endure this dammed interview. I sat in what looked to be the prince's office, there was a huge mahogany desk sitting in the middle. I took the seat that looked less like a throne and waited for something to happen. I looked around the room to try and steady my breathing and noticed a huge bookshelf with what looked to be hundreds of novels, the sight of the old books calmed me a little.
I whipped my head round as I heard the door opening, I scrabbled to my feet as the king entered, doing my best at a curtsy.
'Please sit Orla' he gestured to my seat ' My son is running late ,forgive our tardiness, I know you have travelled a long way to be here'
'That's okay' I smiled up at the king taking in his appearance for the first time. He was a tall man with light features and 10-fold more handsome than Caspian. His hair was cut above his shoulders in typical vampire fashion, it was a shimmering silver, certainly not the same shade as my fathers aged dark grey. His eyes were just as piercing as Caspian's but rather than brown they looked almost black with the same red flickers within them.
He took the seat opposite me and we sat in silence for what felt like an eternity as he looked me up and down with prying eyes. The door swung open again, my heart dropped as I realised who was entering.
I turned in my sear. Prince Lucien had looks that were completely devastating. The first thing I noticed about him were his eyes, although beautiful and striking they were two different colours one a black like his father's and the other a light blue almost similar to mine, both with the typical red speckles. He wore his dark hair short and neat. His chiselled facial features weren't near perfection, they were perfection. He strode into the room with a face that gave absolutely nothing away. I stared at him in near awe, trying to take in all of his beauty.
I felt embarrassed when his eyes caught me staring, I saw a flick of distain on his beautiful face and I quickly looked to the floor to regain some composure.
'Lucien' his father instructed him to sit beside him ' This is Orla Erend of Goldengrove, she has come along way to meet you today'
'She looks like she would rather be anywhere else than here' he smirked.
I looked up to meet his eyes again and felt the dreed creeping into me once again. Be brave Orla
'I'm sorry, I'm just a little nervous, I've never had an interview before especially one ....'
The king interrupted me 'That's what they're calling this' he laughed 'Orla darling this is no interview, its merely a casual conversation to get to know you' The king explained conveniently ignoring Lucine's little dig at me.
I couldn't help but smile, this was anything but casual
'Firstly, how old are you'
'I'm 21 in September' I replied trying to seem as casual as I could when sat opposite the vampire king and prince who had all intends on eating me alive.
'Well that's perfect, Lucien is 24' he smiled at his son, a smile that became slightly agitated as Lucien remained silent ' Speak Lucien'
'Yes I'm 24 in human years, I have however, been this old for a lot longer than you have been 21' he smiled down at me with the same blank expression.
'My son will need to ask you come personal questions I can leave the room if you feel uncomfortable with me being here' Why on earth would I feel more comfortable with him not here. I made a silent plea that he would not leave me with this man that seemed as though he already had made up his mind on me. I however sensed that the correct answer was for me to accept his request and be alone with this man.
'Okay'
I smiled awkwardly at both men sensing a strange dynamic between the two as the king stood up to leave, before doing so he whispered something into the ear of his son.
'Orla' Lucien said brining me back to this awful room and this awful situation, my palms started sweating at the anticipation of the upcoming question.
'Fuck! Stop looking at me like that' he said
'Like what? '
'Like I'm the scariest thig you have ever seen' -well Lucien maybe I am looking at you like that because you are the scariest thing I have ever seen.
'I'm sorry 'I said whipping my palms on my dress 'I'm just.... I'm ... what was your question for me again'
'I haven't asked a question' urgh this man was insufferable I might start running and hope he leave me alone.
'I need to know if your blood is pure' I must have looked confused because he continued 'do you know what that means?'
'Um not really, sorry '
'I'm asking if you are a virgin' finally a question I know how to answer.
'Yes, I've never had a boyfriend or anything like that'
He nodded and continued his questioning.
'Has a vampire ever fed of you before? '
'No'
'Do you have any bloodborne viruses, STD's anything like that? '
'Of course not!' I suddenly felt defensive at this line of questioning as if I was some blood whore in a past life.
'These are questions I must ask you, it's not personal' he explained sensing my discomfort. He thought to himself for a moment before asking me. 'Does giving your blood make you uncomfortable Orla, because this isn't going work if you're going to be so squeamish'
'I'm sorr-
'Stop saying that, just answer the question' he demanded
Fear ran through me again at his demanding voice. 'I'm comfortable with giving my blood' I said looking up at his scowling face.
'Well then, give me your wrist' I obliged slowly pulling up my sleeve and placed my hand on the desk. He stared at me in disbelief
'I was joking ...'
'Oh' embarrassment washed over my face as I tucked my hand back under the desk.
'At least your obedient, my father will like that' he laughed to himself 'you will be taken by a nurse after this who will take your blood for me to try, I wouldn't want to dishonour you before I've even decided If I want you '
We sat in uncomfortable silence as he studied me, finally he spoke again 'What kind of human are you, Orla '
Umm how do I answer that question? Before I had time to think I was speaking again 'What kind of vampire are you Lucien' I snapped back, feeling fed up with being embarrassed and scarred.
'Good question perhaps you will find out' he retorted smirking back at me.
'Well perhaps you will find out what kind of human I am' I said. As soon as I uttered the words I regretted it, why did I just refer to him by his first name and why did I have to by so sassy.
'Hmm' he started studying me again 'Why are you here Orla, you don't seem like you like me very much, I mean why should I even pick you I'm sure the other 3 girls will be praying at my feet for me to pick them'
Anger started bubbling inside of me 'I...'
Just as I started to speak the door creaked open for the third time. This time a smaller vampire entered the room, from his clothes I could tell he was some sort of servant.
'I'm sorry to interrupt your highness, the second female has arrived'
'You are interrupting' Lucien snapped looking back to the servant boy. Lucien sighed and looked at me before saying 'very well, have Caspian take Orla to her room, I will see the next human now'
--
Sir Caspian was once again by side taking me to my room.
'How did it go? 'He questioned
'Not very well' I sighed, feeling I might as well be completely honest, I was already going home and would never see these people again.
'I beg to differ, I have never seen prince Lucien seem so animated by a discussion he would usually find boring, I think he likes you, little human'
'You were watching?'
'We all were, there's a small window we took turns looking through, I think the king has taking a liking to you too'
'Jesus Christ , please tell me the king didn't see me acing like that'
He laughed in response as we approached a room I assumed must be mine he gestured me in before adding 'Another piece of advice for you Orla, don't utter that name in here , your lord has no place in this kingdom' before shutting me into my room.
