A/N
Alright so with midterms this week I don't know if my next chapter will be done so as a just in case I'll give you this one. I try to wake up early Saturday to get it done. I'm sorry in advance.
"That?" Kasanoda pouted his finger with worry as the costume being shown to him by the twins themselves.
"Take it or leave it." They yawned.
Kasanoda frowned as angrily snatched it away from them.
"What's the costume?" Mae asked as Yuri chuckeled under her breathe.
"It's just a tux." Kaoru shrugged.
Mae arched her brow. "Whys he so upset then?"
"Perhaps it's the ball." Hikaru nodded as he pondered.
"B-ball?" Mae stuttered.
"Oh that's right." They slithered over to her. "You missed last years."
"I don't recall-"
"It was before you came." Haruhi sighed as she lugged some dishes to the kitchen.
"There should be a big turn up with our male guests. Not to mention when we clean up the two swine." He referred to Kasanoda and Nekozawa.
Mae twiddled her fingers. "Hey Haru," she whispered to her sister who sighed and walked over. "Can you teach me?"
Haruhi opened her mouth to speak till Tamaki popped up. "Haruhi still hasn't mastered the art of dancing. So, I'll be teaching her." Tamaki grinnned like a little dog as he closed his eyes.
"Sorry Mae." Haruhi shrugged.
She slumped over. "How am I going to learn than?"
"Well teach you!" The twins burst.
"No thanks." Mae hesitantly answered. She knew she couldn't let Kaoru get false hopes as horrible as it sounded.
"How bout-" Yuri began to raise her hand but Mae didn't see him.
"I'll just have to teach her." Kyoya groaned.
Mae gleamed. "Thank you Kyoya senpai!" She bowed to show her thanks.
"Mae I could just-" Yuri continued but Mae couldn't hear the end.
"You should practice yourself. Perhaps with Nekozawa and Kasanoda."
"What?!" She bent over angrily. "I'm fine with Nekozawa but that giant guys weird." Kasanoda stood in the door way with a frown.
"Offense taken." Kasanoda sneered.
"Good." Yuri scoffed and walked over to Nekozawa who was reading a curse book.
"I don't care for her." Kasanoda growled as he stood next to Haruhi.
"She has that effect." Hikaru snickered along with his brothers.
"I heard that!" She barked now on the other side of the room talking with Nekozawa.
"They deserve each other." Hikaru spat.
Maes eyes glimmered. "Hikaru!" She jumped over to him. "Have you joined the ship!"
"The ship?" Both twins tilted their heads.
"Y'know Yuri and Neko Kuns ship." She whispered with a toothy grin.
"You've got to be kidding me." Hikaru bellowed as Kaoru snickered.
Tamaki had overheard glanced over at the two then bolted over to Mae. "I want to join the ship!"
"Yay!" Mae squealed and the two found themselves joyously grinned and taking about how cute the two would be.
"Oh no." The twins sighed.
Haruhi walked over and stared at Tamaki and Mae both giggling together like two girls. A frown formed on her face. "Jealous?" Kyoya smirked.
"No." Haruhi defensively responded. "It's just-" Haruhi turned back to the two. "Tamaki and Mae seem to be very similar."
Kyoya rose an eyebrow. "Hardly."
"What do you mean?"
"Your sister is much more brighter then Tamaki."
Haruhi thought a moment. "Kyoya senpai is Tamaki Senpai stupid then?"
Kyoya sighed. "I meant your sister has more common sense. But your not wrong in the similarities between the two."
"Haruhi!" Mae jumped over to her sister and leaned over to whisper,"I approve, you have my blessing officially to pursue Tamaki."
Haruhi's face became a bright shape of red. "I didn't know I needed your blessing." She growled.
"Well why else would you not have made a move." Mae chuckeled then noticed the obvious anger on Haruhi's face. "Ummm sorry?"
Haruhi let out an exasperated sigh. "It's fine."
"Uhm." Mae slowly nodded.
"Lessons tomorrow." Kyoya walked up to be behind the two Fujioka twins.
Mae and Haruhi exchanged a look both annoyed at the thought of ball room dancing.
"Listen buddy." Mae pat her hand on Kyoya's back as he glared at the gesture. "No matter what with with "ball", she air quoted "im just going to stay by the food the whole time anyway."
"No," Kyoya icily glared at her as he stepped away from her hand. "You will entertain your guests like the host you are."
Mae growled like a dog. "I don't want to though!"
"Too bad your sister's debt has yet to be paid off."
"This is your fault Haru." Mae sneered at her sister who bowed her head in embarrassment.
"It been a long time since you've yelled." Kyoya observed aloud.
"Well you've never stopped being like so. Perhaps it's because you haven't ever loved a person."
"You think you and Mori were in love?" He chuckled. "Even if love was real no 15 year could know."
Mae paused a moment something deep down pulled at her heart. Her insides began to churn as she thought back to the note. "Your probably right." Mae looked toward the floor making Kyoya's smirk fade. "But at least I know the feelings I felt were real!" She looked up triumphantly and skipped away. "See you at practice icy!" Mae yelled back.
"Mae!" The twins called after her and began to talk excitedly about some unknown subject.
"Kyoya?" Tamaki stood next to his best friend. "What's with that look?" Kyoya face resembled the look of disbelief something no one got to see.
Kyoya stayed with the same expression for awhile before straightening out. "Nothing." He quipped before turning to got write something down.
Tamaki thought a moment in the same position trying his hardest to figure out what made his face like it was but gave up as he saw Haruhi trying to practice dancing by herself before the next day.
"I don't get why we can't help Mae learn to dance." Kaoru said as he and his brother sat next to Mae.
Mae knew why, or at least she thought so. It made sense why Kyoya wouldn't want her to dance withKaoru with the way he's been acting, that alone grouped Hikaru out of it. But it's not like she could just say-
"Remember last week." Hikaru rolled his eyes.
Never mind Mae thought as she looked at the two.
"Whatever," Kaoru grumbled. "I think the ice kind like you Mae."
Mae looked over at Kyoya and began laughing hysterically. "As...if." She said between breathes. Hikaru hid a laugh himself. "He doesn't like anybody let alone me."
"Why can't anybody else see it." Kaoru stood up with furrowed eyebrows. "Even Mori senpai sees it."
"How would Mori know." Mae glared and sat up from her seat as well. "He didn't even like me all that much. Let just forget this and go to class." She sighed at the end.
*^*
Mae trudged into the club room. There was a huge space in the room proving to be where she'd be 'practicing'. Haruhi had made up being sick and was most likely being tracked down my Tamaki and twins themselves right now. "Alone." She smirked holding Kyoya had gone off to drag her sister there.
"Not quite." She heard the icy voice behind her.
"Ugh!" She stomped and swiveled to look at him. "The debt collector." She mused.
"All jokes aside miss Fujioka while attending Ouran you should at least learn the art of ball room dancing."
"Whys that?" She sighed.
"What will you do when Miss Mura hosts her wedding. Will you stand to the side the whole occasion. Or perhaps one of he hosts..."
Mae but her lip, in all fairness he was right. She hadn't been thinking long term needs for the the silly dancing. She cared about all the hosts and especially her only female friend Yuri. "Fine. But I won't like it."
"I wasn't expecting any more." He rolled his eyes then approached. "Now the fundamentals of..." he stopped as Mae grabbed his hands. "What are you doing?" He lamely looked at her.
"I don't know, all I know is in dancing you hold hands, no?"
Kyoya let out a long sighed this time. "Right but there's more then just..."
"Your taking too long to explain." She huffed. "Just do it like that American slogan."
"Fine then." He growled and raised her left hand in his and extended their connected right hands out ward as he began moving around gracefully, but on Maes part she was staring at his feet to figure out what she was suppose to do exactly.
"Um," she paused and he stopped looking quite annoyed. "Could you explain a bit more."
"Ugh." He groaned. "Just listen to the best and I'll guide."
"Yeah but..."
"I thought you didn't want explainatuons."
"Well from the sounds of it you were about to go off on the history and unimportant..."
"Just glide." He whispered and began moving again. Mae kept tripped up having several difficulties.
"Kyoya." She angerly hissed getting annoyed at her lack of ability.
"Watch my feet." He hushed as he listened to the music.
Mae looked down a moment. His footing was perfect, it amazed her so much she had to express it. Looking up ready to gush about how beautiful he could move his feet she noticed his eyes were closed a small smile placed on his face as he glided across the room. He looked peaceful and calm, no longer the snarky self he usually was. Mae gulped and looked down quickly hoping to become as tranquil as he was.
As time went on Mae became less stiff and started to have more confidence in her dancing. She beamed up at the small smile on Kyoya's face in awareness of her improvement "Very good Mae."Mae stopped and her eyebrows lifted in surprise."what now?" He hiffed.
"You um," she bit her lip again. "You called me by my name."
"So?" He asked unamused.
"It's just," she twiddeded her thumbs. "You've always called my Miss Fujioka much like all the females."
"Fine I'll refer to you as Miss Fujioka. It was merrily a slip up."
"No, no, no." She shook her head and smiled. "It makes me happy you feel comfortable around me."
"Who said I didn't find you annoying."
She sighed but smiled. "Because that's the first I've heard you call a girl by her first name. Like I said before." A smirked played out on her lips. "Can I call you Kyo kun like honey then?"
"No way." He hissed at her.
"Come on Kyo kun." She nudged him.
"I refuse to be called so."
"You know you like it Kyo kun." She winked.
"Are you trying to suffice me Miss Fujioka."
"What?!" She jumped blinking fastly. "Not at all!"
"Good it was quite sad to watch."
"Hey!" She called after the now walking away Kyoya. "I could seduce someone if I wanted."
"That's very trashy." He chuckled.
Maes face was bright red. "Your so mean!"
"Did that seriously offend you?"
"Somewhat." She puffed her cheeks out.
He sighed. "Forgive me then."
"Humph." She turned her head. "I'll just call you Kyoya then."
"Very well Miss Fujioka."
She smirked at him again. "Just call me Mae."
"Fine but this doesn't give you the right to start clinging onto me like you did Mori senpai when you two started using each other's names."
"Don't worry I won't." She snickered.
"She's alive!" The twins ran in and hugged Mae. "Mean old Kyoya didn't try anything did he?"
"Mommy wouldn't hurt our daughter!" Tamaki ran in Haruhi flying behind him like a deflated balloon. "It's you shady twins that need to keep away from our daughters."
"What about the aunt?" Yuri monotonously said as she walking in with Nekozawa next to her.
"Yuri!" Mae grinned rushing over to her. "Was it hard getting Haruhi here?"
"You have no idea, the problem want he not wanting to come, it was Tamaki and the twins fighting the whole time."
"Ohhhhhh." Mae nodded. "Makes sense."
"What happened with the king of evil? He didn't try anything right?"
Mae rose an eyebrow. "No, why does everyone think so?"
"He's shady." She shrugged. "Actually every host is a bit shady."
Mae thought a moment. "Touché."
"Am I shady?" Tamaki strutted over waving his hips.
"Very." They responded.
"Tamaki senpai Nekozawa using that corner." Haruhi warned.
"Ah!" Tamaki jumped and ran to the other corner.
"I told you." Haruhi sighed out.
"Good times." Mae grinned as they started prepping for the others to practice.
"Excuse me?" A girl stood in the doorway looking past the term nervous. "I have a letter for Mae Fujioka."
"That's me." Mae smiled hoping to ease the stress apparent.
"Here." The girl stuffed the letter to Maes chest. "I'm sorry." She whispered before running away.
Mae looked down at the letter and clenched it tightly. "I hate letters." She said before slowly opening.
The hosts seemed to stop what they were doing and watched as she pulled out some papers and her hand clasped her mouth.
"Mae?" Yuri hovered over her shoulder and turned her around. "What happened?" She asked quickly as small tears edged at her eyes.
Mae looked down at the papers again. "This is a letter from a mental institution. Maise wants to see me."
The hiss seemed to all stiffen at the acknowledgement Maise.
"Mae who's Maise?" Yuri wondered and Ritsu and Kasanoda seemed to wonder as well.
Mae looked up and glared at Kyoya. "You told Mori to break up with me...because of this."Kyoya looked away. "I was gone for nearly a year...for this?"
"I did what I had to." Kyoya answered.
"No." Mae shook her head. "You did what you thought best. You didn't think the costs on me!"
"You've moved on."
"Doesn't mean having my heart ripped out with the cause of Maise again was worth it!" Kyoya stayed silent as well as everyone else. "Did everyone know?"
No one answered. "Only I did." Kyoya closed his eyes ignoring the mental thanks from the twins.
"I could still be with Mori if it wasn't for you."
"Maise intended to kill."
"So? We have your police, Mori and Honey too! You know I didn't have to be without Mori, so why did you do it?"
"He was as on board with it as me."
"He knew?"
"He did."
Mae thought a moment. "You talked him into breaking up with me."
"He was willing."
"He thought I was going to me killed."
"It was a threat if you two were together then she would-"
"A threat from Maise? How would she know?"
"Akane." He shifted his glasses.
"Oh hell no!" Yuri growled and balled up her fists. "Little miss skinny is going down!" Yuri began stomping out. "You stay Mae, Nekozawa come with me!" Nekozawa was already in his feet to tear Akane down.
"See." Mae sighed with a scrunched up face. "Yuri could've beaten the crap out of Akane then. All these people and you just decided it my relationship that was the problem." Mae picked up all her things.
"Where're you going?" Kaoru asked.
"Mori." She said standing up and quickly hurrying out the door.
Kyoya sat back in the couch. The twins walked over. "Kyoya she had a point, why did you make them break up?"
"I didn't want her to get hurt."
The twins cast aside his feelings for a moment. "But why that way?"
"She was ready last year, she's stronger now. I just hope she understands that much."
"Kyoya..." Hikarus mouth fell open. "Do you like Mae?"
"Hardly." He sighed. "She's a real pain."
After no show from Yuri, Nekozawa, or Mae all the hosts emptied out leaving Nekozawa leaning against a table.
"Kyoya?" Tamaki leaned next to him. "What is it?"A note laid under his hands Tamaki pulled and began reading it. "What love is..." Tamaki looked up at Kyoya and read again. "Love is thinking about only one person all day and all night only to begin dreaming of them. Wanting to be with them at all costs, and take care of them. Every time you kiss it feels like the first time. You crave their touch even if it's just a pat on the head. You get jealous so easily it hurts but you trust them enough to not worry. Sincerely Mae Fujioka." Tamaki finished and smiled at the sweet letter. "She sighed it with a heart." He turned to see Kyoya with wide eyes. "Kyoya...do-"
Kyoya slammed his hands. "I like her Tamaki!"
Tamakis eyes widened in shock as well. Kyoya's hair was all messed up and he looked distressed. "She's with Mori though."
Kyoya growled and brought his hands to his hair. "Don't I know. They'll be back together by tomorrow. She hates me." He sighed painfully.
"I'm sure she doesn't."Tamaki tried to cheer him up but no response came.
