"Was that me?," I ask, confused. "Bro do you have a doppelgänger or something? It's probably just a distant relative," he says. "We'll unlike Nuggets, there are only a finite amount of monkeys, and I don't recognize him...," I murmur. "Oh, so like, what do we do? Track him down?," Nugget asks. "Yeah, let's follow them," I say, breaking into a sprint. I keep running across the desolate Gary streets, abandoned buildings rife with needles, cigarette buds, disposable vapes and the unmistakable stench of weed. I jump over the multiple potholes the size of washing machines. Dodging shrapnel from crumbling buildings before a giant crack opens in the ground, I grab Nugget and leap over it, rolling back onto the ground straight into a sprint. I look towards the sun and see how much time has passed, the sun is dropping over the horizon. Seeing this sight imbues me with a powerful surge of adrenaline that pushes me over the edge. I begin running at full speed, holding Nugget buy his retractable hand, nearly ripping it out of his nonexistent socket. I turn a corner only to find there's a solid wall, I'd lost Nug. I break down, the exhaustion, feelings, everything converging at once. I don't have time to think before I pass out cold. I wake up in the same spot, with Nugget looking over me. "Hey Nug posted a new story," he says. "Do you not care I just passed out? Wait a new story? Show me," I say. He then proceeds to show me that Nug snapped him saying, 'I'm getting freaky, hbu?' With a photo of him and that monkey that looks like me. "Is he cheating on you?," I ask, "with that infernal thing?" He doesn't respond and just stares blankly, before tossing his phone on the ground. "Dude! That was our only way to contact a Nug!," I shout at him. "Chill, IPhones are super crack resistant, it'll be fine," he says, before picking up his phone. The guttural scream he lets out when he sees his shattered screen is heard through the whole city. "This is why I keep telling you to get an android," I tell him. "Not now Max," he mumbles. "No seriously I kept telling you, but you never listen to me, since Nug is just so much better I guess," I say sarcastically. "NOT NOW!," he yells, pinning me to the wall. "I know you're upset, we all are okay? But you don't have to lash out at me!," I shout in his face. He gets closer, snarling, "you don't know what I'm going through right now," he growls. "What if I do? Huh? What if I feel the betrayal too, what if I've liked Nug ever since I met him? And seeing him with you broke me, and now he's with my doppelgänger, imagine how I feel for one fucking second!," I snap. His expression of rage softens, the scrunch on his forehead disappears and his lips curl up to a neutral position. His pupils dilate and I can see myself in his eyes, and I look... terrified, scared and lonely. He seems to realize this as he slowly gets closer to my face, bringing his lips to mine. Our tongues immediately explore this newfound land, ready to colonize the other. Our tongues battle for dominance, as I wrap my arms around him and keep my grip tight. He could've told me he was British the way he claimed my entire body, for my most precious resources. We fall down to the floor, as he slips a hand under my shirt and rests it on my hip. I get so lost in his Newfoundland that I don't realize what I'm doing. As he's nibbling on my neck, leaving hickeys up and down it, I take out my phone. I begin taking photos and sending them to Nug, caught in the heat of the moment. The only thing that snaps me out of it is Nug's reply, a spine chilling, 'but you're right next to me'. "Nugget, s-stop," I whimper, "s-seriously." He surprisingly listens. "What is it?," he asks. "Nug just sent me something, I think he's in danger," I say, regaining my composure. "Eh, he deserves it...," Nugget says bitterly. He tries to go back for more but I push him back, "we're just as bad as him right now, even if he's done some bad things he's seriously in danger right now, and we need to be there for him, even if things get tough," I say, pulling my pants back up and standing. "Hell nah, you're on your own," is the last thing Nugget says before he hops away. "Seriously?," I shout, but he doesn't respond, just keeps hopping. I pull out my phone, 'where are you?,' I text Nug. He sends me a singular photo, in front of a ruined McDonalds in between two chasms. Just like the one I passed. I send him a voice message saying 'I'm on my way,' before I begin running, as fast as I've ever ran. I retrace my steps, alone this time, but Nugget would've just slowed me down. I run past the smiling critters starving on the streets, and the cameraman from skibidi toilet cheating on his wife with rich nugget, just typical. I keep running though, I won't just leave Nug to die. I finally see him on the horizon. I run within ear shot of him and I hear him scream "WHAT? HELP ME!," with a hovering like button above him. Now's my time to save him, and destroy whatever is pretending to be me...
