Prompt: "Why do you keep lying to me?"

You grabbed a handful of chocolate bars and tossed them into your shopping basket. With the current post-breakup state that you were in, you were going to need all of them, and they wouldn't last you long. In fact, you wouldn't be too surprised if they were gone by the end of the night.

With a sigh, you pulled your phone out of your pocket and looked over the shopping list that you had hastily made that morning. Milk was the next thing on the list, so you headed towards the back of the store.

Your heart stopped as soon as the milk section came into view. The refrigerators were only twenty feet away, but one important obstacle stood between you and the dairy: your recent ex Josh Dun. His back was currently turned to you, giving you the opportunity to turn and run and come back for milk later. You had never been that big of a fan of dairy anyway...

As you were standing frozen in place, trying to make your decision, the red-haired boy turned around and his eyes landed on you. His eyes immediately widened and he made his way over to you. The two of you hadn't talked since he called things off and you stormed out of his apartment in an emotion-filled rage. He had called you countless times since that day, and you had ignored every single one; you would be lying if you said you hadn't listened to the voicemails more than a few times to hear his voice again, though.

"Y/N," he said once he was in earshot. "I've been trying to contact you for days, what's been going on?"

Your eyes were already starting to sting and adrenaline was kicking in.

"I've been busy," you lied. In fact, you had barely left your house in the past few days.

"Can we talk? There's a lot of stuff I didn't get a chance to explain to you."

"Josh, we're in the middle of a grocery store."

"Please?" The second he pulled out the puppy-dog eyes you knew you were a goner.

"Fine, but make it quick."

He nodded and the two of you walked somewhere that was less in-the-way of people just trying to do their grocery shopping.

"I just wanted to let you know that I'm really sorry for how things ended. I never wanted you to get hurt, and I realize the way that I went about doing it was wrong. That being said, you and I both know that this was for the best and-"

You cut him off, "Why do you keep lying to me?"

His eyebrows furrowed, "What am I lying about?"

"You said you didn't want to hurt me, but breakups always hurt. You said you and I both knew this was best for us, but breaking up hadn't ever crossed my mind. You said you would love me forever, and that obviously isn't the case."

"C'mon, Y/N. Couples always say they're going to love each other forever, that's just what they do. You said the same thing to me."

"Well then maybe you hadn't considered the fact that I still love you, asshole."

You walked off, milk completely forgotten. Adrenaline was now pumping freely through your veins and you were seething from what he had said. A couple tears ran down your face, which you hastily wiped away with the back of your sweatshirt sleeve as you bagged your groceries.

Maybe you should have bought a few more chocolate bars...
