Em's POV:

Luke trembled at the news I had given him. He sat, motionless, speechless for awhile before finally collapsing.

I grabbed both sides of his face and tapped his cheeks with my palms to wake him up. "Luke," I called out to him. "Luke, wake up!"

Nothing. He was unconscious. I kept shouting his name and trying to wake him up. He still wasn't showing any signs of coming to. I checked for a pulse. Nothing. Oh dear god. I pulled out my phone and called 911.

"911, what's your emergency?" The receptionist asked in a very calm, collected tone.

"Uh...my uh. My brother passed out. He's not breathing. I need EMTs," I told them, knowing that I wouldn't be able to enter his hospital room if I wasn't family.

"Hold on ma'am. I'll send an ambulance right away," she said.

"Okay thank you," I put my phone down and performed CPR, pushing down in the middle of his chest to get the blood flowing in his heart. I continued this routine until the ambulance got here.

"What happened?" One of the paramedics asked.

"He um he passed out." I stumbled over my words.

The paramedic, Sam, wrote a few things down before speaking. "Get an AED over here."

"Wh-what's that?" I asked, concerned.

"It's an automated external defibrillator. It's just gonna shock his heart to help it work properly again ma'am." Sam reassured me. I sighed and watched as they covered Luke's chest and back with two pads. I turned away, no longer being able to watch. I couldn't take it. What did I do? He loves me so much that his heart literally stopped when I mentioned someone else coming into the picture.

I was too busy in my head I didn't notice that Luke was finally awake. "Emilee?" his voice croaked behind me. I spun around and ran towards him.

I buried my face in his shoulder as I wrapped my arms around his neck. He wobbled backwards slightly before regaining his balance. "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry."

"Emilee? Are you? Are you really seeing someone else?" Luke stammered. I sighed. By now the EMTs were packed up and halfway out the door.

"It's really complicated. He keeps calling and texting, he invites me places, we run into each other all the time. Right before we made plans for Louisiana he had invited me to a dinner that night, but after I got off the phone with you I canceled on him because I felt guilty. Then he showed up at my house that night with a whole bunch of stuff and he talked me into a movie and he ended up kissing me." I rambled on about Jack and what had happened between he and I. Luke looked down at his feet and ran his hands over his face.

"I-I don't know what to say," Luke whispered. I took a step toward him, but he revolted and turned around, pacing around the couch.

"Luke please." I could feel tears heating up behind my eyes.

"Emilee. I think you need to go back to Georgia. I need time to think about this and you clearly need to decide on what you want. Technically, you are cheating on me. I trusted you Em." Luke looked at me with hurt in his eyes. I could tell he was searching mine for some sort of sign or clue that I was lying. That it wasn't true. That he was the only one. He is my only one, but somehow Jack kept wandering his way back into my life. The more wandering he did, the more leaving Luke did.

I grabbed the last of my bags and put them in my truck. Luke had walked with me down the stairs to my truck. "Can I have one more hug?" I asked him. He opened his arms and pulled me into him. I felt so safe like this. How stupid am I to be so blind that I'm still considering Jack? How could I possibly be in the right mind to see what I wanted and needed, but still go for what was bad for me? The only thing I could think in all of this, in this hug, in Luke's arms was for him not to say anything. Please don't say anything. Please don't say anything. Please don't say anything. I chanted over and over in my head, but with my luck, I was disappointed once more.

"Em, just remember that I'll always love you. That will never change. No matter how deep your knife cuts me, I'll always do my best to clot the blood," Luke whispered in my ear. I felt a tear fall from my cheek onto his t-shirt and into his skin. "I love you."

"I love you too." I cried into his shirt and pulled myself away before anymore of my heart could break. I wasn't even the one who was being left for another person. I can't imagine how Luke is feeling inside.

"Call when you get home," Luke said as I climbed into my truck. I nodded and left as soon as I could. I couldn't take this anymore. This was all too much. I pulled out of the apartment complex parking lot and onto the main road. From the main road to the freeway, down the highway all the way to the exit in Leesburg, from the exit to home, all I could think about, was Luke.
