"It's...just...so...FREAKING HOT!!"
You shouted out in exasperation while dragging your heavy body toward the now heavily closed door of the scrapyard. Yeap, the weather was swelteringly hot as the temperature was now reaching almost 35 degrees according to your phone. Beads of sweat trickled down from your forehead, darkening the already wet stain on your T-shirt. You felt as if your flesh was burning from the heat and was eager to enter the cool bar inside the yard.
"Okay...you are almost there...come on (y/n).."
Still, you managed to bring your finger to press the bell on the right side of the gates. As soon as you pressed the red button, the iron gates slowly opened with the usual creaking sound, accompanied by an excited voice you recognize right away.
"Hey (y/n)! I was waiting for hours!"
The short boy with brown hair shot out from the gap, running right into your arms. You couldn't help but grin as your little friend hugged you tight around your waist. It was the summer vacation and you had the time to put off from your high school with your neighbor. You have been friends with Russel since childhood and would sneak into their fantastic scrapyard at night to play. Your parents were off to Europe for the vacation, so you had no choice but to stay here for some company.
"Sorry for making you wait, Russel. The delay on the bus sort of hold me for a while."
"It's okay. Oh, and by the way, Dad said he wants to show you something awesome."
You let a snort of laughter at Russel's word; yes, of course, he would.
Let's just hope that he didn't bring anything ridiculous.
Russel soon let go and tugged your hand, leading you inside the enormous yard filled with all the pieces of metal. As soon as you and Russel entered, you suddenly heard a loud crash on the other side of the area. Then series of deep voices echoed across the yard, making you stop at your tracks. You were sure that the voice wasn't Denny's...but someone else.
"Ouch! Grimlock! You just ruined my paint job!"
"Sideswipe! Would you please be quiet for a second!"
Russel also froze on the spot, his eyes widening every second.
"Um...Russel?"
You asked in a suspicious tone, looking around the area.
"Yeah?"
"I hope your dad is not experimenting something dangerous here...Is he?"
You looked down to spot Russel glancing nervously at the place where the sound came. His hand was shaking a little and you noticed sweat starting to form on his cheeks.
You soon picked up the strange silence and stared sternly at Russel's blue eyes.
"Russel~~?"
"Um...That is... err...Yeah! Maybe dad did something reckless again! hehe.."
"Come on Russel, I know you are lying. Spill the beans, will you?"
"No...I told you, it is just my da-"
"Well, that didn't sound like your dad. Why didn't you tell me you had guests?"
"No, I swear, that is not guests-its uh..just my dad fixing up the old van!"
"...Humm...Okay.."
You took away your doubtful expression and with Russel, walked deeper inside. Even though you knew that Russel would never lie to you, you couldn't help but notice small whispers and thumps coming from the edges of the yard.
However, you tried to shake it off as you being paranoid about the situation. And well, it is the vacation. It is time to rest for sure. Soon you and Russel reached the clearing of the yard, you found Denny, crouching over a huge elongated tube-like object. You tried to take a look but was blocked in the view by Denny's outstretched arm. He soon looked up as the footsteps approached, and cracked a huge grin.
"Hey (y/n)! Long-time no see! How was school?"
"The usual-and to add, it is the summer vacation! No more school for some time."
"Well, good to hear. What brings you here?"
"My parents left me alone for their Europe trip this month...So I had no choice but come here."
"So...You have to stay here?"
"Yep!"
You smiled but soon faltered to find Denny and Russel exchanging nervous glances for a second.
"Um...Is there is a problem..?"
"Oh, no problem (y/n)! W-we were just thinking about..."
"About what?"
"Dad..are you seriously going to hide it? I have known (y/n) since I was 5! I know she is not the one who will talk about other's secrets."
Russel hissed to his dad as if trying to be silent as he could.
"What is it, guys? Am I being a disturbance? Why can't you just tell me?"
You said, feeling rather hurt now by the fact that your friends were hiding. Denny stared at you for a moment, then sighed. You frowned and put your hands on your hips.
"Well..okay then..(y/n), just, just don't freak out. Okay?"
"Come on you know I fear nothing."
You snorted as you looked back at Denny's eyes.
"This is different!"
Russel exclaimed, also having the same worried look like his father. Denny took another deep breath and started to walk slowly to a wooden plank you didn't notice before. It was shaped like a rocket colored in red, blue but at the same time, covered in dust and was chipped in the edges. Russel followed Denny, and you followed the small boy, wondering what they could have possibly been hiding. Maybe another a newly invented roller coaster. It cannot be that serious, could it?
The rocket-shaped wooden frame automatically drew up, revealing a gap wide enough for a vehicle to enter.
As Russel and Denny stepped inside, once again, you heard the same murmurs and loud thuds, as if some kind of metal was hitting the ground.
"Hey! Bee!"
"We have somebody...to introduce!"
Denny added, waving his hands at the end of the clearing.
Bumblebee?
You were about to ask angrily to Denny about hiding an insect as a secret, but when you finally looked up, your jaw almost dropped. Robots, that were almost 25 feet big, were staring down at you.
"Russel, who is this? I never thought you had another human in the scrapyard besides Denny-I mean your dad."
One the robots, the yellow one, peered down on you, with a look of confusion on his faceplate. His sky blue optics seem to pierce your (e/c) ones as they swiveled up and down, scanning you like an X-ray.
"Well..she is my friend. We have known each other since childhood and because she is staying here for some time due to her parent's absence...I thought it was necessary to tell you guys."
"Lieutenant, I don't think it is safe to have another human to know about our whereabouts. How about breaking her?"
The blue and white robot piped up, staring sternly down at your now trembling figure. You shuddered at her words.
'Break..me?'
"Who is this? Another human?"
The red robot that was standing beside the blue one budged in, also giving the look of great curiosity.
"Another friend of Russel, aye? I hope I can play football together with her too!"
A greenish bot, even bigger than the others stomped closer to examine you, which made you shriek in surprise. You can't help it, they were huge, and if Denny was not lucky enough to push you aside, you would have likely been squashed.
"Oh-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare ya!"
The green bot yelled sheepishly at your response, scratching the back of his helm.
"W-Who are you?"
You managed to speak out, still shaking a little by their overwhelming sizes.
"This is Grimlock, and I am Bumblebee. We are Autobots from Cybertron, another planet in the universe and had come to Earth to further protect from the Decepticons. Oh, and they are Strongarm and Sideswipe."
"Hi!"
The red one referred to as Sideswipe waved a hand, which you answered back with a small smile.
"I know our presence can be disturbing to you, but we have a duty to fulfill here, on Earth. And you are..?"
"O-Oh, I am (y/n). I am a friend of Russel and Denny."
"(y/n), would you promise not to tell about our whereabouts to others? It is essential to keep our presence under disguise."
At Bumblebee's question, you slowly nodded, still staring up at the bots in amazement.
Then a sound of a siren ripped the air, accompanied with another rather high-pitched, robotic voice.
"Commander! I located a Decepticon five miles northeast from the scrapyard."
"Bots! Head to the command center!"
Soon the bots transformed in seconds into automobiles and trailed off toward the open gap. Within seconds, they were gone, leaving clouds of dust behind. As soon as they left, you turned around to face Denny and Russel, with the same shocked expression on your face. They avoided your eyes, scratching the back of their neck.
"...All this time, you were here."
You said calmly, breathing in deeply as you could.
"...."
"With gigantic alien robots guarding Earth against whatever danger they call as Decepticons."
".....Sorry, (y/n) I just wanted to keep you safe-"
Denny opened his mouth but was soon forced to stop by your exclamation.
"Are you nuts? Why didn't you tell me earlier about this?"
At your answer, the two just stared back at you, who was now grumbling and heading back to the main gates to retrieve your baggage.
"...Do you think we made the right choice dad?"
Russel whispered, looking at you with a half-concerned gaze.
"...I hope so...at least, (y/n) is not freaking out anymore."
