The night was like any other night: dark, cold, and simple. Living for almost a hundred years and practically dong the exact same thing every night can be tiresome. Every night my coven and I do the exact same thing. We wake up from slumber, lure our meals into our homes, and dispose of the bodies when we are done with them. It’s as if we would be doing this routine until by some miracle I get salvation from this endless frozen life.

For tonight, I decided to do something else and this something else isn’t that entertaining. Instead, I chose to lie down on the couch and wait until my family came home.

Home. My last home was when I was in London, but because we had complications, there was no choice but to leave. Now, I am stuck in Vermont. I was stuck in Vermont and not even hungry to eat anything. Ever since I came here, I wasn’t in the mood to eat. I haven’t been hungry for the passed three days. It made me wonder if I could starve myself to death, if that’s possible.

Before they turned the block, I already heard the members of my family returning home. The family being Liam and Angelina. Usually I have no problems with Liam. He was a good man who has loyalty issues. He was understanding and able to help me whenever I go through the motions. Then, of course, there was Angelina, the bitch, which can sometimes be an understatement.

As they walked toward the house, I listened to Liam and Angelina’s conversation with each other.

“Whatever happened to classy men?” Angelina asked. “All men think that they can be with any girl by just buying them a drink and mindless flirting.”

“Well, there are some women who aren’t classy either.”

“I know,” she sighed. “It’s quite degrading.”

They walked into the house and Angelina’s eyes darted toward me. She examined the house, looking around at the mess that I created. I was bored and decided to make paper balls to throw around and whenever I was in the slightest mood to eat, I would leave the blood bags around the house.

I glared right back at her. “Problem, Angelina?”

“I asked you to do one simple thing, Harry. I asked to clean up around this place and what are you doing? Lying your lazy ass on the couch, the exact same spot you were in when we left.”

I looked around the house. “If you haven’t noticed, this house is garbage. The floors look like they are about to break down, I can list out every mold that is growing in the house, and there is a leaky pipe somewhere in this damn house.”

“Well, we can at least keep some parts of the house clean.”

“What’s the point? I bet we are going to leave in less than two weeks.”

“Enough,” Liam sighed. “I have had enough of both of you fighting with each other. Harry, can you please pick up some of the junk around here?”

“Most of the blood bags are yours, not mine. You do it.”

Angelina glanced over at Liam. “I’m going to kill him.”

“Bring it on, bitch.”

Angelina stiffly turned her head towards me. Liam cleared his throat, “Angelina, he didn’t mean that. Calm down.”

She shoved Liam out of the way and charged at me. I quickly stood up and tried my best to move away from her chocking me, but she managed to strike a punch against my jaw and grasped tightly on my neck. Liam quickly grabbed Angelina by the waist and held her back. Even though Liam had a strong grip on her, Angelina still tried her best to remove herself.

“I am going to kill you, you stupid leech!”

I laughed, “You do realize that you just insulted the rest of our kind.”

“Harry, shut up!” Liam growled.

Angelina froze. She swiftly jolted her head towards the door and looked to the left. “We're not alone.”

Liam glanced down at Angelina to make sure that she was speaking the truth. Until he was positive she spoke the truth, he released her. “What’s out there?”

“We are in the middle of nowhere. There is no one out there,” I informed them. We did decide to pick a home that was half an hour away from civilization.

“Listen,” she hissed. “Don’t you hear that?”

We stayed quiet and listened. There was a soft rhythmic pattern coming from outside the house, but there wasn’t just one pattern. There were multiple, maybe about ten rhythmic patterns.

“Heartbeats,” Liam muttered. “Why are there heartbeats?”

The answer came to from the window. An arrow that was shot from a crossbow was coming toward me. Angelina quickly shoved me out of the way and made me hit a lamp that was resting on a cheap uneven table. The room quickly dimmed, until Angelina grabbed a glass and threw it at another lamp at the other side of the room to make the house completely dark.

“Hunters followed us home,” Angelina whispered. “How many do you think is out there? About ten?”

“Maybe fifteen,” Liam suggested. “We need an escape now.”

“I’m thinking,” Angelina whispered. She stealthy walked toward the window and examined the surroundings. “They haven’t tampered with the car. We can get out easily.”

“How do you suggest we do that?” I asked. “We're surrounded.”

More arrows started to come through the house, making all of us duck. I watched as Angelina kicked down a gallon of gasoline that poured under the crease of the front door. She quickly moved away from the spillage she created.

“Liam, get the matches.”

Liam reached over from the counter and tossed her the matches. I watched her face become uneasy as she prepared herself to light the match. We listened to the footsteps of ten hunters approaching the front door. Liam and I ducked down from behind the couches as Angelina waited for the opportune moment to light the fire.

The front door slammed open and was followed by the sound of screams. I looked over the couch and saw the ones who were around the front door were on fire. Angelina ran toward us, giving us the signal that it was time to leave.

We headed towards the back door, but were stopped when the remaining hunters entered the house. They pointed their crossbows at us, ready to fire. I glanced over at Liam and noticed that Angelina wasn’t with us.

“Is there anymore of you?” a hunter demanded.

“Just us two,” Liam replied.

“And me,” Angelina said from behind them. She snapped the necks of one of the hunters and already began attacking the next. Liam and I quickly ran over and attacked the other hunters.

“Leave one alive!” Angelina ordered.

I grabbed a hunter by the neck and ripped open his neck and then snapped it after I drank some of his blood. Just like she wanted, we left one alive for Angelina. She grabbed the survivor by the throat and bite down on his neck. It wasn’t to fulfill her taste in blood, but to get information from the hunter, along with the next move that will be made.

She looked at the both of us, “We have to leave now.”

“Why?” I asked her.

“There is going to be more coming within the hour. We have to get out.”

“Out of the town or out of the state?”

“Preferably the state,” she answered as we walked to the car. “We’re targets. These hunters were assigned to kill us.”

“What group are they?” Liam asked as he got into the driver’s seat.

“I don’t know. It seems like a new group of hunters and I didn’t get the name. They were very careful not to announce it.”

“What’s the plan?” I asked them. “If we are a main target and we don’t even know who is hunting us, we can’t exactly go out in public.”

“Liam, drive over to Massachusetts and drop me off. Afterward, Harry and you go to New York, get plane tickets, and go back to London.”

“What are you going to do?” Liam asked her.

“All I know is one thing, London hunters and American hunters are working together to hunt us down. The ones who hunted us tonight were from Massachusetts, so I’m going to do some investigating.”

I snickered, “Angelina, that’s suicide.”

“I know what I’m doing, Harry, I learned from the best.”

“You make yourself sound like you are the age of Count Dracula or something.”

“Firstly, if Count Dracula was real, I would be older than him. Secondly, for once in your life, can you please just quit criticizing my decisions and just do what I say?!” she snapped at me.

“Alright,” Liam sighed. “We'll drop you off at Massachusetts. Just stay in contact with us, alright? I don’t want to be worrying about if you are alive or dead.”

“I’ll be fine. I got myself out of tighter situations than this.”

Just like she wanted, we dropped her off at Massachusetts. Before Liam and I headed to New York, we grabbed another car so that we wouldn’t be tracked down. I glanced over at Liam. His jaws were clenched and he was too focused on driving.

“What’s your problem?” I asked him.

He sighed, “Angelina is the problem. I get that she wants to make sure everyone is safe, but to go alone and hunt down hunters isn’t wise.”

“She is a fighter, you know how she is.”

“She is trying to get herself killed.”

“Or trying to keep us safe,” I answered.

Liam glanced over at me. “Since when did you ever approve of the choices Angelina makes? You always whine about whatever she tells you to do.”

“Just because I complain, it doesn’t mean I don’t respect her. Plus, it’s fun pushing her buttons.”

“Well, until we figure out who is hunting us, it is best for us to find somewhere in London, stock up on food, and rarely go into town.”

“Stealing from another blood bank then?”

“You know the drill.”

“I’m almost a hundred years old, of course I know the drill.” I leaned against the car seat and looked out the window. “Goodbye, United States and hello, London.”
