"Ringo?" John walked up behind Paul. "What kind of name is that?"
"I dunno, me friends call me it"
"What friends?" John looked around mockingly, which made Paul giggle.
Ringo laughed as well.
"And who 're you?" He asked.
"John. Lovely name innit?"
Ringo raised his eyebrows. "Certainly. Paul, do ya mind pushing me?" He turned to the younger boy.
Paul nodded and walked behind Ringo, grabbing his waist and pushing him.
John frowned.
"Ey, why does 'e have to push ya? we jus' met ya"
"Cuz he's the little one" Ringo grinned.
John chuckled.
"What were ya starin' at, by the way?" He asked.
"Oh, er, nothin'" Ringo's face suddenly turned red.
"Tell us!" John insisted.
"Yeah, tell us!" Paul jumped in.
Ringo sighed and hopped off the swing. "Alright, fine"
"Ya see that little boy over there" Ringo pointed to a little jungle gym, where a small boy was sitting at. He had dark, chestnut hair that moved softly through the wind and almost covered his even darker eyes. He wore black shorts and a blue shirt.
John leaned on the pole, smirking.
"Whatta 'bout 'im?" He asked.
"I dunno" Ringo scratched his head. "I've seen 'im here a lot. He doesn't do much, doesn't talk to nobody. 'e walks around the trees and picks flowers"
"What's wrong with that?" Paul asked, practically defending the boy.
"I don't wanna hurt 'im or nothing'" Ringo said quickly. "I jus' wanna talk to him"
"Then let's do it!" John took hold of Ringo's arm and dragged him to the boy.
"No, wait! John-"
"Hi!" John approached the boy.
The boy looked up at John, frowning at him in the sunlight.
"Hello" He greeted in a small, scouse accent.
"M' Paul" Paul smiled and reached out, grabbing his hand and shaking it.
"Hi Paulie" The smaller boy giggled, showing his fanged teeth that made Paul smile even more.
"M' John" John nodded at him. "And this 's Ringo"
Ringo waved shyly.
"Uhm, hi"
"So, what's yer name?" John asked.
"George"
Ringo beamed at him, feeling a bit more comfortable.
"How old 're ya George?" He asked.
"Um, 4" George said shyly, looking down at his knees.
"Wow!" John gasped. "Yer a baby!"
"Baby?!" George gasped.
"'S okay, Georgie" Paul ruffled his hair a bit.
"Anyway, me n' Paulie 'ere gotta go do stuff. Bye!" John pulled at Paul and they both left the two boys alone and plopped on the grass. Paul looked at John, confused.
"He'll thank me later" John grinned proudly.
Paul giggled.
Ringo and George were talking to each other, they moved to the swings and seemed fixated on each other.
Paul smirked.
"What should we do now?" He turned to John, who was picking at a leaf.
"Hmm, maybe the jungle place-y?" John pointed to the place George was near, nets around so children could climb about.
"Okay!" Paul agreed happily.
They ran across the playground and climbed on the nets. John climbed faster than Paul did.
"Wait up!" Paul called out, but John kept moving in excitement.
The younger boy sighed.
"Hi there!" Paul heard a sweet voice next to him.
He looked and saw a pretty little girl, she had short, blonde hair and was wearing sneakers with dirty white shorts.
"Hullo!" Paul greeted kindly.
"Wha's yer name?" The girl asked.
"Uhm, Paul. You?"
"Linda"
"Nice to meet ya Linda!" Paul smiled.
"Paul, c'mon!" John shouted from far up.
"He's a fast boy" Linda said, climbing with Paul.
"Yeah" Paul sighed.
"Ya got big ears" Linda suddenly said, pinching Paul's ears.
"Well, yer shorts are dirty with mud!" Paul playfully shot back.
Linda shrugged. "I don't care"
Paul raised his eyebrows in shock, this girl was definitely not like the other girls he's ever met.
"Really?!" Paul squealed.
"Yeah" Linda giggled.
John, on the other hand, was waiting at the top, near a flag. He sat down, feeling like a king and watching the kids around him.
"Hi"
John twisted around to see a girl standing there. She had very long, black, poofy hair, and was wearing a white long-sleeve shirt with white shorts.
How did she get up here?!
John squinted at her.
"What 're you doing here?" He asked.
"I climbed" She said frankly, sitting down next to John.
"I'll have you know I'm the king" John crossed his arms and puffed out his chest.
"Can I be the queen?" She asked.
"Er, no!"
"Why not?"
"Bec'use I don't like girls"
"Do you like boys then?" She asked.
"Er, huh?"
"You said you don't like girls, so you like boys then?"
John thought for a second.
"No!"
"Then why can't I be the queen?" She asked.
"Fine. But I'm the ruler of all!"
"Okay!" The girl agreed, shooting him a shy smile which made John grin.
"Who 're you?" He asked, cocking his head.
"Yoko"
"That's an odd name" He said. "How old 're you?"
"14" Yoko said softly. "And I'm Japanese"
"That's old!!" John laughed. "Crazy girl ya are!"
"How old 're you?" She scooched closer to John.
"6" John said.
"You seem older" Yoko squinted her dark eyes.
"John!!" Paul climbed up and sat next to John, breathing heavily.
"There ya are! What took ya so long?" John turned to Paul.
"Hi!" A small girl appeared at John's feet. She grinned up at him.
"Uh" John looked at Paul.
"Oh, that's Linda!" Paul held out a hand and helped her up next to him.
"Hi.." John said, holding out his hand.
"Hullo, nice hat" Linda tapped John's cap and giggled.
"Thanks" John huffed and fixed it.
"John" Yoko grabbed his arm, letting him know she was still there and very much did not like that John has directed his attention away from her.
"Oh, this is Yoko"
Yoko simply nodded at Paul and Linda.
Linda waved kindly but Paul just stared at the strange, older girl.
"Yoko?" Paul asked.
"Its Japanese" John said, Yoko nodding.
"Right, so what should we do now?" Paul asked, swinging his feet and feeling the breeze.
"Oh! Paul, do ya wanna try the monkey bars? Its fun!" Linda tugged at Paul's arm, excitedly.
"Oh sure! John?"
"Uh" John didn't really wanna leave Paul, especially with that weird girl who strangely didn't have an accent like he and Paul did. But when John turned to Yoko, something in her eyes made him say no to Paul.
Paul frowned.
"Why not? We've done everything together so far!"
"Geez Paul, can't live without me for 10 minutes?" John laughed nervously.
"Fine" Paul turned and climbed down the nets, Linda following him. She looked back at John and shook her head.
"Bye" Yoko said softly.
He and Yoko sat silently for a few minutes. John could see Paul from afar, he was struggling hanging from the bars and Linda was helping him, by having his legs on her shoulders.
John twitched his lip when he saw her pat his legs, reassuringly.
He just bloody met him!
"John" Yoko took him out of his thoughts. Like she knew.
Yoko pulled a dandelion out of her sleeve and handed it to him.
"What am I s'pose to do with this?" He asked.
"Rub it on your chin" Yoko said.
"Gross! Why?"
"Its said that if some of the dandelion is rubbed off on your chin, you're in love" Yoko explained.
John raised his eyebrows.
"Love?"
"Yeah. Do it"
Love?!?
John hesitated for a second because softly rubbing the flower on his chin.
He turned to Yoko, who raised her eyebrows high.
"Your in love!"
"Huh??" John rubbed his chin with his fingers, he felt something.
"I am?!?" He asked in a shocked, high voice.
"Yeah! Plenty came off!"
"I can't be!" John shook his head.
Why, he barely knew what love even was!
"But what's love?!" He asked Yoko.
John felt scared. He didn't know why. Its not true, its some stupid flowers getting their rubbish on you! Why was this so scary?
"It's a warm, fuzzy feeling! You love to be with someone, talk with them about everything. Laugh with them, play with them. Spend the rest of your days with them" Yoko explained. She seemed to know exactly what.
John's heart pounded fast.
He longingly gazed at Paul from a distance.
"Love is love!" Yoko explained. She hugged John hard. "And if you believe in it, it will come again. I've got to leave, and if its destiny, I'll see you again"
John sat motionless.
He didn't even know Yoko had left because his eyes were fixated directly at Paul. There felt as if no one else was around. No children screaming or running around anymore. Nothing.
Paul met his eyes as he dangled from the monkey bars.
John smiled warmly and waved.
And Paul waved back.
