(Austens POV)
What the hell did I do?
Standing, I began to pace, furious with Vals, with myself. More with myself than with her. I hadn't meant for it to slip out like that. I hadn't planned to tell her about my feelings like that. I hadn't meant to back her into a corner either. She just made me so mad, worrying about what other people thought, about being on a date with me...it had been to much for me to keep it all in.
I stopped pacing.
Why the hell had I done it? I shouldn't have called her but it started out as an innoncent call. I wanted to hear her voice so damn much, to hear her laugher, even in the middle of the night I couldn't stop thinking about her. I shouldn't have brought up the date. I knew she had been skitish about it but I had to go and push it. Now I was paying the price.
I ran a hand through my hair, frustrated.
Fay Valentine will be the death of me. What was I suppose to do now? Pretend that nothing happened tomorrow? Ignore it? How will she react to me? Will she reject me completely? These questions were driving me crazy. My confidence with her was down to zero. Fay Valentine stripped me bare, leaving me vulnerable.
I hate feeling like this.
Helpless.
Afraid.
Afraid that she'd continue to drift away from me. I don't want her to leave me behind...
Fuck!
I threw myself in bed, facing the ceiling. I didn't know how to face her tomorrow. I almost wished it never comes. The only thing I can do is to wait for her...wait for her to decide my fate.
I closed my eyes, that familiar feeling of unrequainted love creeping in the pit of my stomach to my chest. It felt like I was being suffocated. This feeling is unbareable.
Vals...please...don't leave me behind.
My eyes flew open and I sat up. There was no way in hell that I could sleep now.
I have a feeling that the next few days will be the most hellish days of my life but I knew that I had to give her time. So I'll give her time. Time to figure out her own feelings for me before I faced her.
And with each passing second, my heart is already being torn...will there be anything left of me in the end?

(Fays POV)
The pass four days were hell.
At the moment I was in the school cafeteria at the usual spot with Luis and a couple of our friends. They were laughing, making jokes, trying to avoid bringing up the subject they knew I would bitch about.
Austen.
That bastard...the very next day after our fight he came to school, totally undisguised, the full blast of the new and improved him sent the school in an uproar. Our school wasn't big but it wasn't small either and everyone knew just about everyone else so Austen's sudden change was the heated topic for the past 4 days.
Geeky Austen McKennzie had turned into a total hottie.
I groaned, banging my head against the table. I hated it, seeing him surrounded by girls who hadn't given a damn about him before his change. Now that he was a pretty face, they were all over him. Funny how people could be so damned two-faced.
I glanced up at the giggling voices and I wished to god I hadn't. Austen passed by the table, without so much as a glance my way, followed by a group of girls chattering non-stop. It was like they were the sheep and he was their damn sheppard or something. Where ever he went they followed. So god damn annoying.
"What the hell happened to Austen," Angela popped out of nowhere and I groaned some more. I really didn't need miss big mouth right now.
"Well?" She tapped her foot.
"Well what?"
"What happened? Did he have some surgery over night or something?"
"Oh ha ha."
Angela crossed her arms. "You knew about this, didn't you? That's why he was dressed in that rediculous get-up four days ago. Now that I look at him, he's that guy who sang at the club isn't he?"
Oh great, people knew about that? This day was becoming worse and worse.
"Well aren't you going to do something?"
I sighed. "What do you want me to do, Angela? Clap my hands? Congrats, you found me out. It had been my idea to dress him like that. Nice detective work. Blah blah blah."
Angela made a face. "You don't have to be so sarcastic."
"Why are you even here, Angela?" Luis asked. "I don't see how this is any of your business."
"Of course its my business," she huffed. "I'm going to become class president and its my responsibility to maintain control in this school."
Luis and I rolled our eyes. "Angela," he began, "class president doesn't mean United States President, hun."
"Oh shut up, what do you know?"
"That really is Austen, isn't it?" Jason decided to show up, stepping next to Angela. They looked at each other for a second than looked away. I lifted a brow. Well whats this? Trouble in paradise? Its good to know that I wasn't the only one having a tough time around here. Call me selfish. Go ahead.
"Yeah, thats our Austen," Luis replied for me. "A dramatic change huh?"
"No kidding," Jason glanced at Austen. "Real dramatic."
"I told you that you were slow."
We all jumped, startled as Dean, my annoyingly creepy brother appeared, stepping out from behind Angela. Honest to god we didn't even notice him there.
"You should have bagged him when you had the chance," he continued. "You're too slow."
"Shut up," I snapped, glaring at them. "What is this? Gang up on Fay day?"
"Hello," Dean looked at Angela, completely ignoring my murderous glare.
She blinked at him, like she had no clue how to respond to him. "Um...hi."
"Your nose isn't red any more," Dean commented, his voice still as monotone as ever. I have no idea why he sounded like he was bored all the time but he wouldn't bring up a subject that he thought was meaningless. What was up between these two?
Angela's cheeks turned pink. "I know its not, thanks for pointing that out captain obvious."
He took her hand and held it gently like he'd done it a dozen of times. "Good."
We all blinked at this. Why the hell was Dean being buddy buddy with Angela Becker? That was just sick and wrong.
"Anyway," Jason said after awhile, probably feeling awkward around Angela. "There's a beach party coming up, its in Santa Clara, you wanna come?"
I stared at him. "You're inviting us to a beach party?"
Jason blushed noticably under his caramel skin. "Um, well I was inviting you..."
Whoa, wait, what did he say? He was inviting me? ME?
"Sure we'd love to come," Luis saved my ass by answering for me. "When is it?"
Jason looked like he wanted to say something else but changed his mind. "It's tomorrow, Saturday. It starts at 9 am so we could be there by 10. There's going to be live concerts and everything."
"Coolio," Luis nodded. "We'll be there."
"I'll come too," Dean said, looking at Angela's face the entire time.
"Are you going?"
Angela stared stupidly at his hand still holding hers. "How long are you going to hold my hand?"
"Why, does it bother you?"
"Uh, yeah so you can let go now."
Dean released her hand. "I wouldn't hurt you, Ange."
Whoa, there seemed to be a double meaning to that word. Again, what the hell was going on between these two? Did Dean like her? Ewww! My own brother crushing on Angela Becker. Sick! Sick! I've never seen him act like this around another girl before so he must be serious about her. Damn.
"Uh-huh, right," Angela backed away from his meaningful gaze. "Yeah, you wont, because you'll never get close enough to." She glared at Jason before leaving. Jason looked uncertain for a second before nodding to us and left silently. Probably after Angela, who knows. Good riddance.
"Angela Becker?" I snorted at Dean, "you've got to be joking."
"She's been hurt," he shrugged simply.
"Uh huh, so what you decided to be her knight and shining armor?"
Dean turned his dark blue eyes to me, looking bored with the conversation. "Every girl needs a knight in shining armor, Fay. You're just letting yours get away." With that said, he left, leaving me speechless. That brat.
"Whoa," Luis chuckled, "your brother is deep."
"Shut up, Luis."
"Uh huh, I'm still surprised that Jason practically asked you out in front of Angela."
"You and me both brother." This week was just getting a little too crazy. First I almost get Austen expelled, we get into a fight, he ignores me for four days with a herd of girls around him all the time, Angela and Dean's suspicious relationship and now Jason asking me out. Not to mention I was still getting weird letters cut out from magazines. They always said the same thing.
I want you.
I love you.
I'm watching you.
Someone's brilliant idea of a practical joke. Yup, crazy. The universe was surely making fun of me.
"So?" Luis said slowly, "what are you gonna do about Austen?"
"Nothing, its none of my business anymore."
"Right...so you're really okay with him like this? You guys haven't talked yet have you?"
"No," I admitted. "He doesn't even look at me." And that was painful. It was like I had stopped existing to him.
"So talk to him."
"I can't"
"Can't or wont, Fay?"
"Stop bugging me about it, Luis."
"Dean's right, you're letting him slip away from you."
"Drop it."
"Okay, okay, no need to bite my head off." Luis took a sip of his lemonade and muttered under his breath: "But I still think you're making a big mistake."
I glared at him. He was right of course. I needed to talk to Austen. I had so many questions for him. Plus, I missed talking to him. Missed laughing with him. I didn't want to have bad blood between us. He was still my best friend...wasn't he?
