third person pov
nat and clint walked into the main room of the compound. it had been successful with no injuries. in the living room, everyone was sitting waiting for them to return, barring sam and rosie who unbeknown to the two assassins had gone to get natasha some flowers for when sam asked her out; red roses. everyone was gathered around playing mario cart, when clint and natasha joined them, the former stealing peters remote and sitting on the floor beside him, and the latter sat next to wanda. everyone asked how the mission went, and the pair of assassins gave them a rundown
"where's rosie and sam?"natasha asked wanda "also nice necklace"
"they are getting some more stuff for dinner, seems peters appetite only grows day by day, and thank you" at this reply natasha nodded and said "i know, i feel like that boy could eat a horse" causing both girls to laugh. rosie was carrying the bags of food, checking it was clear for sam to run to his room. upon receiving a thumbs up, he ran there placed them on his bed, and returned taking a bag from her, before they both causally walked into the room "hey guys, how'd it go?' they asked simultaneously as rosie shot daggers at clint. the assassins once again recounted the mission as rosie and sam joined everyone on the sofas.
"trainings at 5, clint and nat feel free to take the session off"
"thanks steve, i'm gonna go and shoot some distressing arrows now, so wont be joining you later" clint stated before leaving the room. at this comment, wanda and rosie looked at each other, and natasha caught on "what did you do?" to which wanda just mimicked zipping her lips.
"YOU LITTLE SHIT!" clint said barging into the living room, pink bow in hand. this caused the entire room to erupt in laughter, barring rosie who was able to maintain a straight face long enough to say "what's the matter clint, can't handle a taste of your own medicine" mockingly.
"you fucked up my bow"
"i thought you liked the colour pink?" she replied with an innocent smile
"well what if it doesn't shoot the same" rosie had actually accounted for this, not wanting to mess up the mans favourite training bow
"dont worry clint, just a splash of colour" the rest of the room was just laughing as clint got more furious at the girls tone. he turned around stormed off and went to shoot arrows "YOU LUCKY CHILD" he screamed after realising it still shot the same. "luck, or i used a paint i recognised would have the same weight and texture meaning it wouldn't change anything, but sure blame it on luck" rosie murmured to himself
"that was good, really good" natasha stated
"that wasn't the half of it" wanda replied, causing the team to all look at her "what he pranks at least one of us once a week, no consequence, does that really seem fair" rosie and wanda both laughed, the rest of the team barring tony (who knew and assisted with their plan) eyed them suspiciously. however, the team knew clint, despite his perfect shot, wouldn't be able to take wanda or rosie, so weren't particularly worried.
the rest of the evening was spent training or in the living room or eating, and clint was yet to return to his room. "i'm just gonna grab a sweatshirt from my room" clint stated, causing a low 'okay' t0 be said amongst the group. wanda and rosie shot each other another glance. before anyone had time to reply, they heard clint shouting "YOURE DEAD, YOU HERE ME KID" he stated walking back into the room. wanda attempted to grab the girls hand, to which she stood up, standing face to face with the man "what's wrong clint?" she questioned
"WHY THE FUCK IS ALL MY SHIT PINK!" he shouted almost face to face? it was more face to face with rosie looking up.
"i thought you must like the colour" rosie stated shrugging casually. the team was shocked at rosies casual answers to clints screaming. sam whispered to the red head currently next to him "you been teaching her that shit training" to which she just slowly shook her head. if steam could come out someone's ears, it would be coming out of clints.
"I SWEAR TO GOD, I DONT GIVE A SHIT IF YOUR SIXTEEN, YOU AND ME RIGHT NOW" he said walking to the training room. rosies head was killing her from the shouting combined with enhanced sense, but she ignored it and shrugged following the man. once they reached the sparring mat the stood opposite each other "dont go easy on my now clint" rosie said, a smug smile. the man through a punch, which she caught with ease and flung him onto his back. whilst on the ground, he shot and arrow at her. she caught it, due to her sixth sense and laughed. this caused a gasp to be let out from some members of the team who had now joined them in the room. clints eyes widened in shock "you give up yet?" rosie asked. this caused the man to shoot another arrow whilst standing up, one again catching it. "these could really hurt me clint, and are you aiming for my heart, not sure many of the team would appreciate that" the fight continued, rosie continuing to fling clint on the ground, whilst taunting him, whereas clint kept shooting arrows, which the girl could catch now with ease, after having done it many times. "give up yet" rosie asked whilst pinning clint down "because i actually, dont like hurting people" hearing the sincerity in the girls tone, clint tapped out. rosie smiled before standing up and offering the man a hand.
clint took it and flipped the girl, causing a look of genuine hurt to cross her face. rosie simply stood back up, turned around and left. "had to have the last laugh" natasha stated before turning around a following the girl. the rest of the group shook their heads causing the man to lower his head and walk out in shame. wanda started to walk out, sam grabbed her arm "give them a minute"
"oh no, i'm not following, i'm gonna shred his non pink shit"
"that may make matters worse"
"i may not care" she stated before walking out, causing sam to follow her. the rest of the team in shock at what they had just watched unfold, peter looking upset. "you know, shes a really nice person, and to her this was all a game" he stated
"the shirt thing was my idea"tony stated after "she just wanted to paint his bow"
"it isn't your fault" steve said in response
"yeah well it wasn't hers, she was just playing a game" bucky stated
"should've picked any other colour you know, i really dont think she would've cared, any other colour" peter stated. they continued making statements about the event, barely paying attention to one another
nats pov
"had to have the last laugh" i stated before following after rosie. i assumed she had ran to her room, because when i stepped out of the hallway, she was gone. he really couldnt handle the taste of his own medicine. after prancing us for years, no one thinking to prank him back, when someone finally does, he has a full blown meltdown. childish. i reached the door of rosies room. rosie and wanda had taken a knife and etched there initials onto the front, much to tony's dismay. he had an entirely modern building, and very modern doors, but for some reason were still wood when it came to the bedroom and bathrooms. he said it was to distinguish home from work, and i felt it worked in a sense. i knocked, loudly but not aggressively "rosie, its nat"
"its open" was all i got in response. i took this to mean i could enter the room. when i walked in, i saw rosie curled in a ball in the corner of the room "i didn't mean to upset him nat, i really didn't, i thought it was a joke, i thought pranks were jokes, i didn't even want to do anything but paint his bow, does he hate me, he hates me right" the girl was speaking faster than i had ever heard her. as i got closer, i saw tears rolling down her cheeks, and her shaking slightly. "rosie you need to breath, clint doesn't hate you" rosie just shook her head
"no, no he does. i shouldn't have pranked him. i shouldn't have got mad. this is all my fault, clint hates me, the rest of the team hates me, oh god, do you and wanda hate me?" rosie looked up to me, still crying as she said the last part. the sight of the girl in front of me broke my heart, and i was suppressing tears forming in my own eyes. "no one hates you rosie"
"how do you know?" she asked, still looking at me, her breathing was beginning to slow, my words hopefully offering some comfort "do you want me to get clint, so he can tell you himself"
"no he probably doesn't want to see me"
"i'm gonna get him and come back, stay their" rosie just placed her head on her knees in response to my words.
i walked to clints room and banged on the door "open up" he quickly swung the door open. he looked guilty "quit feeling sorry for yourself and tell rosie you don't hate her. half the shit wasn't even her idea. to her this was a game, she didn't realise you weren't playing along"
"i dont think she wants to see me"
"i found her crying in a corner saying you, me and everyone else hate her. i think your the only one who can convince her otherwise"
"of course i dont hate her nat, and wait they weren't even her idea, whose were they?"
"you pulled a lot of pranks, a lot of people wanted revenge. she just came up with the bow thing"
"i'm not sure nat, i dont know how i could help"
"i am so annoyed at u right now, trust me i wouldn't come if i didn't think this would help"
"okay lead the way" and with that i lead clint back to rosies room, walking straight in.
when i said stay their, she really took it literally. she was sitting in the exact same place, head rested on her knees. i knew she knew we were in there because she flinched slightly as the door opened. but she didn't move. "rosie, there's a certain archer here to confirm he doesn't hate you" as her head rose, clint and i both gave her a soft smile "hi" she said to us, no higher than a whisper. a lot of us often forgot both rosie and wanda were still only 16 because of how they presented themselves, but seeing rosie sat in a ball, was like seeing wanda stood in her pyjamas. it reminded both clint and myself of her young age
"i dont hate you rosie, and as a human lie detector, you should be able to see i'm being sincere"
"i'm really sorry, i thought it was a joke, i'm sorry" she said, cheeks still wet and eyes red.
"rosies, it's okay, it's not your fault, i shouldn't have died your hair"
"no, you meant it harmlessly, i shouldn't have sought revenge"
"yes you should've, as you and nat have both told me, i deserve a taste of my own medicine"
"before you get more of a taste, may want to help sam stop wanda tearing your none pink stuff to shreds... i can hear them from here" with that clints eyes widened and he bolted to wandas room.
i sat down on the floor beside rosie, pulling her into a side hug "you were going easy on him" i said lowly
"didn't want to make him feel bad" was all she said. and then we just sat there until wanda barged into the room "did you tell him to stop me tearing his shit to shreds" she asked, directed at rosie who slowly nods in return "but he made you sad"
"i'm fine wands, why don't you sit with us" so wanda took a deep breath and sat on the other side of me. i imagine she would've wanted to sit next to rosie, but she was sat directly next to the wall. i draped my arm over her pulling her into my side. sam went on to make dinner with steve, and the free of us just sat there in a comfortable silence until we were told it was ready. i got up and started leaving "you coming?" i asked "leave us some?" wanda questioned in response. i just smiled, nodded and left the room to join the others.
wandas pov
"are you okay" rosie nodded, burying her head deeper into the crevice of my shoulder
"i was just worried he was going to hate me, i thought it was a game, and i took it to far"
"your really good at that happy one second, intimidating the next thing"
"had to be, turned the intimidating expression on whenever i went home or when i go vigilantying"
"i know the feeling" rosie slowly nodded before leaning on my shoulder once again. we both talk about our upbringing, and somewhat shared experiences infrequently, but we had a vague knowledge of what each other had been through. in a way, it deepened our connection and understanding of one another. we sat there chatting a few more hours before falling into a comfortable silence. i was drifting to sleep as i heard rosie doing the same, her breathing having slowed on my shoulder.
sams pov
it was now 10:30 and neither wanda nor rosie had come down for dinner. me and natasha grabbed the plates which we had prepared for both, and walked to their door. natasha knocked softly, when she got no reply she signalled i close my eyes, just in case and walked in. she then told me to open them again and i saw two sleeping sixteen year olds being supported by one another, and the wall behind them.
"how we playing this, move them to a bed, or give them there duvet" i asked
"rosie wakes up whenever touched so i think the duvets the best bet" i nodded to the redhead, before grabbing the duvet and spreading it over them. simultaneously, natasha grabbed their respective cuddly toys and put then gently on their lap. we took one more look at the girls, smiled at one another and left. we both said goodnight to the team, as everyone went to bed.
