The two men and one woman stepped off the stage as the student's claps increased in sound. The noise vibrated in Chieko's brain; filling the empty and boring part of her mind with sound.
"Yes, well, thank you to all three of you, and.." Then the principal began to drone on again. Ryuga was stuck crouching on his tiny seat in between Chieko and Light for the remainder of the speech. He turned to Light suddenly,
"You're Light Yagami, right? The one who graduated high school with top marks like a genius?" Ryuga asked, no interest flashing on his face at all.
After all, Ryuga believed that this man was 80% possible of being Kira.
"I'm flattered, yes." Light replied cooly, "and I'm afraid I've never heard of a man with the same name as a pop star."
"Ah, yes, a burden on me since I was born." He sighed. Light then ended the conversation quietly by turning himself to the stage.
Rude, thought Ryuga.
"I wish this thing would end already.." Chieko muttered from her own seat next to Ryuga, turning his attention. She didn't ask to be a genius, always above everyone else, but she did love the chase while being Autumn Salazar. The detective crime work, and every body that came up was a new challenge set in front of her.
"Chieko Miyamoto, also the top of your school in Hong Kong.. am I wrong?" He asked, causing her to pull out of a daze.
"Uh.." she almost forgot her cover, "yeah. and what about you? How did you get in here?" She questioned, Light also listening in unsuspiciously.
"Because..." Ryuga was hesitant; what if someone else here heard what he was about to say, and tell Kira? But now was not time for the pesky skepticism.
"I am L." He finally whispered.
Chieko saw, for one moment, Light's eyes go wide and the paleness on his face made him look as transparent as window glass. For her, she tried hard to show nothing, which wasn't hard. She knew that anyone could be anybody.
But why admit to being L now..?
Unless,..
Light is a suspect for being Kira, so he said this now to see his reaction.
She looked over at the new university student. He may look innocent to the death around him, but really he may be the killer who sentenced Autumn's father to his grave six feet under the dirt.
Let's see; top of class, graduated with honors, not to mention the times of killings; like the times of a high school student curfew. Any high school student could've done it; but the killings had grown in the past day or two. Notifying that a shift in schedule;
Like graduating.
Chieko Miyamoto was now drawing the lines in L's puzzle, and mapping the past.
"Oh, really? Like the guy on television who challenged Kira?" Light asked calmly. What should he do?!? How could this man in front only him be L?!? Stay calm, Light told himself.
"Yes, and after this, I want to take both you-" L turned to Chieko Miyamoto; the girl Light simply couldn't stop staring at since the assembly started, "and you, somewhere a bit more private to talk."
How did a girl like her get caught up in this?
~~~~~~~~~
"Come with me." L motioned for both Light and Chieko to follow him as they walked down the sidewalk to a small little restaurant with gold wall paper and booth seats wherever there was room. Chieko sat next to L as he crouched on the seat, eating the sundae he ordered.
"Why do you sit like that?" Chieko let curiosity get the best of her.
"If I sat normally, my I.Q. would lower about 15%." He stated matter-of-factly. She let the question go and stared down at the carpeted floor and took in its maroon tint of the wool.
"What do you want?" Light finally asked. L slurped down his ice cream (which at this moment has turned to slush) wile holding his spoon with his index finger and thumb.
"Because both of you are on my suspect list for being Kira." He simply told the truth. Though, for L, he was lying about Chieko. There was no way for her to be Kira. All records show that she was working a case at the time L broadcasted his message to Kira. With that, and she had no motives to kill her own father. But he simply couldn't come out and tell Light Yagami that.
"What?!" Light raised his voice, but other than that, he seemed stable and calm, his voice was denying that truth, but his body language told otherwise. Chieko saw this as well.
"That's impossible, because why would I ever believe killing all of those people would solve the worlds problems?!" Light hissed, "I want to grow up, become a police officer like my father- maybe even get married when the right person comes around!" Lights eyes flashed in Chieko's direction, but he would never admit to himself about 'love'. For now, he was simply interested in her.
"And what about me?! I just came to Japan from Hong Kong!" Chieko Miyamoto lied through her teeth.
"I want to become a simple radio host. And didn't you say to Kira himself, (as well as the whole world) that Kira himself was hiding here from the beginning?!" Light and L had to admit, lying or not, she had class while putting up an argument.
"Then why don't you help me catch Kira?" He asked the final question. After all these years, he was tired of being alone. The two looked at him as if he were crazy. "I can't do this alone anymore. I even took the liberty of asking a detective from a different country to help. But sadly, he declined." L lied. He was alone, but it didn't mean he didn't like it. He simply needs to get closer to Light.
After accepting to help, only to prove Light's innocence, he left. Leaving only Chieko and L in the booth.
"What is the real reason for calling me here, L?" Chieko dropped the act of innocent university kid, becoming the serious detective she was.
"Whatever do you mean, Autumn Salazar?" He questioned without looking up from the red cherry on between his fingertips. She smiled; seeing as the great L knew her name. "What I really want is your help on this case. And no, I don't suspect in the least that you are Kira, but there is always that 5%."
"And I already guessed that Light Yagami is your prime suspect?" She took out her phone and began to scroll through her contacts; seeing that Light had given his phone number. Both cell and home.
"Then I'll be you go-to-girl." she smirked, and even L smiled at the number.
Finally, progress was being made.
