Okay, so far so good. As I predicted, the prince couldn't get much closer to me thanks to the mob of nobles crowding him.
He tried. Oh, he sure did try. And the second he managed to get the nobles off him Luden and Avis distracted him while I sprinted out into hiding.
"Good job my minions!" I patted the both on the back as they gave me two very offended side-eyes.
"If we keep this up the family won't be sent to execution!" I added as they both decided not to give me another tongue-lashing for the sake of the duchy.
"Still, we should be careful." Luden pointed out shooting me a glare.
"Of course, of course. I'm not stupid." I frowned at him, bitch couldn't take a joke.
"You're not?" Avis and Vidoro questioned is sync, earning both of them a slap on the back of the head in the process.
"Hey! What was that for?!" Avis yelled rubbing the back of his head.
"Cause you said something stupid." I replied crossing my arms and turning away from him.
And just like that, yet another bicker session started.
That is until Luden pulled us apart as kicked both of us out of the room.
...
Since the hunting festival was a one to two week long event.
The imperial family had the esteemed guests stay in one of the palaces room while others had to go get a villa or something at a place nearby.
So as an Divinus, I was also given the privilege of being able to stay at the palace. But that just gave the crown prince more opportunities to approach me.
I brought this up to Luden and he thought long and hard about this, it was honestly funny how much he had to rack his brain over what to do with me.
And finally informed me about a section of the palace where the crown prince never stepped foot in.
He asked for permission form the emperor directly before the servants moved my stuff into the other room in the other section of the palace.
"Please, remember my lady. You mustn't wander around these halls at night." The 18th butler of the palace warned me for 11th time.
He was a young gentleman who seemed to be in his early twenties, with brown hair and eyes and tanned skin. He seemed to be new here.
"I got it, I got it! What the deal with
this place anyway?" I question just shut him up before continuing when he didn't answer.
"Is it haunted with the crown prince's siblings' ghost or something?" I added half-jokingly but then noticed the butler tense up.
"... It seems I have no choice but to tell you now..." The butler muttered dramatically.
"Eh? Tell me what?" I finally turned to meet the butlers eyes, well, I couldn't since he was looking down at his feet suddenly.
"The truth is my lady... There have been rumors of a ghost roaming around these halls at night..." The butler scanned the room before leaning on closer.
"The people have been talking and they say... That she's the ghost of his highness's younger sister!" He suddenly whispered in my ear, that's bullshit.
"Eh? Why?" I was about to voice my opinion on the matter before remembering the etiquette classes Luden assigned to me and decided not to.
"It's said that she has the exact same hair color as the late queen, the crown prince's mother." The butler informed as I gave him a puzzled look.
"But didn't the late queen die along with the baby on the day of the crown prince's younger sister's birth?" I questioned, that was definitely what the game said.
"I thought so too! Until I say that child with my very own eyes..." The butler continued holding his head dramatically at the "horrible" memory of the ghost.
"It was at late night... I had just completed all my tasks and was heading back to the servants quarters for bed..." The butler began giving me his take of horror while all I could think was.
'When did I ask?' Of course so didn't say so and simple let him have his moment.
.......
Butler's POV:
"Finally!" I yawned stretching my tired limbs from my long day of running around like a dog.
"I should hurry to bed- Eh? Where am I?" It was still my first week at this job and I had yet to have learned the whole layout of the palace.
I scanned my surroundings to see where I could possibly be when I suddenly heard an eerie creaking noise from around the corner.
Making my hair stand up on the ends and sending a chill up my spine.
"W-w-w-w-w-w-who's t-there...?" I questioned slowly creaking my head to the direction the sound hand come from.
And around the corner walked out a thin, bony figure the height of a 10 year old child in a white old night gown.
I could clearly see that her cheeks were sunken in even from a distance, her hair was an unruly ginger with many strands sprawled onto her face.
She was barefoot, with a lantern in hand, but as she lifted the lantern next to her face, I nearly dropped my own at the sight of her face.
Even all that hair sprawled over her face couldn't hide the hideous eyes of the creature, black all around the eye and almost bulging out of its socket.
Her eyes were a pale blue color with barely any sign of life in them...
"Y-you... EEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK!!" I turned on my heel and ran as fast and far as my legs would allow me.
"GHOSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!" I screeched the whole way back but no one had heard me at that secluded corner of the palace.
.......
Sovine's POV:
"I'm telling you! What else could that creature be if not a ghost?!" The butler continued trying to convince me that what he saw really was a ghost.
"Yes, yes. I understand, I won't go outside this room." I reassured him, that was a lie but he seemed to have bought it and left me be.
Come on now, he couldn't seriously expect me not to go look and explore around after saying all that.
Sure, sure, it might be dangerous and maybe a ghost really does exist and this how every horror movie character dies but thanks to this stupid game.
I won't die even if a stab a pitchfork through my skull! Sure, it'll hurt like a bitch, but I won't die.
And I could probably use that to my advantage to catch that ghost too, maybe even get a reward for my service to the crown prince.
So off I went to find this little knock off little Annabelle dolly, how scary could she even be?
She'll probably end up looking like Momo at worst according to the butler's description.
Except that night I wandered around for the whole night and still didn't find her.
"... You look like shit." Avis commented the next morning when he saw me face down in my pillow also feeling like shit.
"Yeah... Momo, ugh, didn't show up..." I muttered, my body was bullying me for making it not get any rest the whole night.
"Mo- What?" Avis questioned, at this point he felt like I was only losing my sanity by the day.
"Deeeeeaaaatthh!" I groaned as he gave up and left not even bothering to call me for breakfast.
Even when the duke questioned "Where's Sovine?" At the breakfast table, Avis simply responded to him with.
"She didn't make it through the night."
"..."
"HUH?!" The duke and the remaining two brother's exclaimed as the duke shot out his seat.
-----
The duke later had Luden come up and check on me to confirm that I was still living and breathing but allowed me to stay back and catch up on sleep.
But I doubt he did it from the oh so, "kindness of his heart. He probably just didn't want me causing trouble out in front of all those nobles.
It was probably for the best considering the crown prince might try approaching me again, can't engage in small talk with someone who's bedridden.
We'll move on to annoying Anartis on day 2 of the hunting festival as soon as I catch up on my beauty sleep.
For now, I'll let him have a moment of peace.
To be continued...
