Josh woke me up much earlier than we'd normally get up. The sun hadn't even risen yet. "Joooooosh," I whined. "It's like 2:00 AM. Why are we awake?"
"It's 6:20," Josh laughs. "Follow me."
He grabs my arm and takes me outside. It was still cold. "What are we even doing?" I ask. "I'm cold."
"Just wait and look over there," Josh points at the horizon. The sky turned a golden color and the sun peaked out as well. "We watched the sunset, and I don't think you've ever seen a sunrise before..."
"Now that I think about it," I begin. "I don't think I have."
It was different than a sunset, but I didn't know how to describe it. "You can go back to bed if you want to," Josh tells me. "but before you do, do you remember me telling you about a carnival a couple weeks ago?"
"Oh yeah!" I smile. "That's today, right?"
"It is!" Josh smiles back. "Would you want to go? It'll be just us two."
"It sounds perfect," I cheer. "I'm too happy to go to sleep now!"
"Wow, I don't think I've ever seen you awake this early before..." Josh says.
"I don't think I have either," I reply. We laugh.
--Time Skip--
The carnival was an all day event but we didn't want to go until later in the afternoon. So, we killed the time by getting food, seeing a movie, and just hanging out around town. You'd think we'd be tired by now but we both kept each other energized.
When it was 6:30 PM, we began to drive to the carnival. "What do you think we're going to fo there? Are we going to ride rides?" I ask eagerly.
"Most of the rides there are probably for kids... but we can definitely ride the Ferris wheel," Josh smirks, knowing how much I dislike them.
I groan. "That's boring, though... and knowing you, you're going to rock the seat and scare me half to death the entire time."
"We've been on a date all day, (Y/n)," he laughs. "I don't think I'd want to ruin it by doing that, and I'll tell you jokes the entire time so you're not bored."
"They're just going to be really bad dad jokes or something," I roll my eyes and smile.
"Yeah but you still laugh at them," Josh shrugs.
I hide a smile. "True..."
Josh parked his car and we went up to the ticket booth. We only got a few because there weren't any exciting rides here, and all the small games cost real money. "What do you want to do first?" Josh asks.
"Uuuuh," I think for a minute. "Not the Ferris wheel..."
Josh smiles and grabs my arm. He begins to take me to the Ferris wheel. "Hey... Nonononononono," I try to pull away. "I didn't agree to this. Josh, we're going to die. You're putting us on a death wheel."
"It's a Ferris wheel," Josh laughs. "What could go wrong."
"One of us could fall off," I say with a straight face.
"That's not going to happen," Josh replies.
"The wheel could fall off the thing and we'll roll away," I say. "and then one of us will fall off."
"(Y/n), we'll be fine," he smiles at me when we stop in the line.
I sigh as it gets close to our turn to get on the death wheel. We give the person our tickets and we sit down. Josh puts his arm around me. "This isn't that bad," Josh tells me.
"Okay, we're moving," I breathe. "Josh I swear if you rock the seat I will never talk to you again."
Josh laughs. "I know I'm an awful person for dragging you onto this 'death wheel' but I'm not that terrible."
"I guess..." I begin to relax. "Where are the jokes, though?"
Josh begins with the worst joke known to man, but it still makes me laugh. "Hey Josh," I begin. "You know what's funnier than 24?"
"What?" Josh rolls his eyes.
"Twenty one pilots," I reply.
"Wait- what?" he laughs.
"I don't really know," I shrug. "It doesn't make sense, but I saw the opportunity and I thought it was great."
"I love you," Josh says quietly with a smile.
"W-what?" I ask. I knew what he said, but I don't think I was able to really process it. The ride stopped for us and we got off. "Joooooosh."
"Hey, what if I win you something," Josh asks. "All the cool guys do it in those movies... I mean...I wouldn't know because I don't watch those movies anyway."
"Pft! Suuuure," I follow him to the games. I spot my favorite animal as a stuffed animal, Josh sees it too.
"I got this," Josh says confidently.
"I'll still love you even if you don't," I stare at Josh and we smile at each other.
I watch as Josh fails the game the first time, then the second time, but third times a charm... not for Josh though. "The games are rigged, anyway," I whisper to him as we walk away.
"Awh man, I wish I could have gotten you something, though," Josh stops. He looks down and grabs a rock off the ground and looks at it. "It's not the prettiest thing ever, but we can look back at it when we're old and tell the grandchildren about it..."
I smile at the thought. "So you're saying you plan on spending your life with me?"
"I mean," Josh freezes. "Why not?"
"I don't know," I laugh nervously. "I think that I'm annoying... and stubborn... and-"
"You're perfect to me," Josh gives me the rock. "I really can't promise we'll stay together another week, but I sure hope we last as long as we live."
"Even if we were immortal I could spend my life with you," I smile. We stood there for a while, ignoring the screaming kids and people running around us. It was a perfect moment, but we didn't have to be there anymore. There was not much we could do.
"Should we head back?" I ask.
"Sure," Josh grabs my hand. "Let's go."
On the way back to Josh's house we continued our conversation about life together, of course, we weren't planning on getting married yet, but we sure weren't against the idea if we thought about it in a couple years. "Of course when I'm on tour I could call you every night, and some relationships get complicated when you're on the road..." Josh tells me.
"I guess, but I'll survive," I tell him.
"But hey, sometimes if you're up to it, you could stay with me on the tour bus and see a couple concerts," Josh smiles.
"That sounds fun," I reply. "What about... your parents?"
"What about them?"
"They don't really know me at all," I say. "I've only met them a few times and now we're dating. Won't that seem weird to them?"
"It doesn't matter to them," Josh tells me. "What matters is that I've known you for what feels like forever. Plus, my parents are great people, and I know that they'll love you too. My whole family will."
Our day of fun was now coming to an end. I had changed into pajamas that I brought earlier today and was sitting on Josh's couch. We were exhausted since we didn't get much sleep the night before and had a whole day of running around.
"I want to go to bed," I tell Josh.
"Honestly, me too," he agrees.
At the doorway to his room, I am spun around and hugged. "Just had to let you know I love you again."
I smile wide.
"I love you, too."
