I've only been sitting here for about ten minutes but they are probably beginning to get worried. I stand up and walk to the backyard. Everything looks to be the same. People were gathered around the fire and marshmallows were scattered everywhere. I leaned against the wall of Debby's house. There was a light shining on me so if anyone began to look for me they'd see me.
I didn't feel like talking to anyone or moving. I really just wanted to go home but I didn't want to make Brendon and Sarah leave early because of me. They're probably having fun right now. It's probably best if I just wait here for them.
My phone vibrates, telling me that I got a text message.
Josh: Where are you
You: Somewhere.
Josh: Are you still at the party??
You: Ye
I put down my phone and don't get another text after that. I get tired of standing so I walk inside and into the living room. There I see Tyler, Jenna, Brendon, and Sarah all asleep on the couch. I smile and check the time. It's already midnight. Wow. I didn't know a bonfire could last this long.
I sit down on the ground and lean my head against the couch. I close my eyes and slowly fall asleep along with the others.
I woke up around 7:00 o' clock. Someone must have put a blanket on us while we slept because I looked around and we were all covered up. I was the first to wake up. I also noticed that Josh fell asleep in the same position I did but on the other side of the couch.
I rub my eyes and begin to wake up even more. I hear someone walk down the stairs. I assume it was Debby because this was her house, and it was her. She walked into the kitchen and I got up and followed her. "Uh... hi," I smile.
"Hey," She said, sounding tired.
"Sorry for staying over without really asking," I tell her. "Brendon and Sarah were supposed to take me home and then I saw that they were asleep and..."
"No, no, it's fine," Debby said, getting a cup of water. "Wow, I don't remember much of last night. Please tell me that I didn't do anything crazy."
"Well," I began. "You might have kissed Josh."
"What?!" She sounded embarrassed. "Oh gosh I-I don't know why I did that! I hope he doesn't remember that!"
Mystery solved.
I shrug. Debby sighs. "I'll talk to him about it when he wakes up but for now, what do you think everyone wants for breakfast?"
I loved how she could just move on from an embarrassing thing that happened to her, I wish I could be like that. "What do you have?" I ask.
She walks to her refrigerator and looks inside. "Waffles or pancakes?"
"That question could start a war," I laugh. She laughs too.
"I'll make waffles, wanna help?"
"Yeah!"
So we made waffles. It was a lot of fun and I found out that we could get along. All I had to worry about now is if Josh remembers the kiss... and if he did, how did he feel about it?
The waffles were done and Debby and I were still the only ones awake. "These people can sleep through anything!" Debby says.
"I'm surprised that I was the first to wake up," I begin to think... "Hey, we totally have to wake them up by scaring them or something."
Without saying a word, Debby and I grab pots and pans. We both already know what we're going to do just by looking at each other.
"I didn't get no sleep 'cause of Y'all!" I yell as loud as I can while banging the pans together.
"Y'all not gonna get no sleep 'cause of me!" Debby finishes.
That sure woke them up.
--Time Skip--
We were all sitting at Debby's dining room table. "How did you guys not wake up while we were making waffles?" I ask them all.
"Yeah, we were super loud," Debby says.
"Why was (Y/n) the first one to wake up? She always sleeps in so late."
"Who covered us with blankets?
"Hey, could you pass the syrup?"
"What time did everyone go home?"
So many questions were going around the table.
"Josh, do you remember what happened last night?" Debby blurts out.
"N-no?" Josh looks up at her. "What happened?"
Debby looks at me. "Uhhhh we kind of kissed."
Although they were drunk when it happened, I still have this weird feeling in me. I hear lots of people are really honest when they're drunk, so could the kiss make them realize that they still love each other. It would be my fault too because I was the one who told Debby and then she told Josh and-
"Oh my gosh, I didn't know," Josh says nervously. "I-I'm sorry."
"It's fine. I'm sorry, too," Debby replies. "It didn't mean anything."
That's what people always say in movies and books, and the characters always end up falling in love after that. I look over at Sarah, who must have seen the same movies and read the same books, because she was looking at me. I shrug it off and continue to eat my waffles.
