I put the phone down slowly and stare at the desk. How is he dead? Maybe because his daughter was taken? But surely he would want to stay for when we find her?

"Officer Smith? Everything good?" I hear from behind me. I spin round in my chair and see Nolan stood there, concern across his features.

"Uh- no- not really, I was working on the missing girl case but the mother just called saying that her husband is dead, it doesn't seem right to me, he wouldn't do that-" I say. Nolan just looks at me. "Anything I can do?" He questions.

I think. "There is one thing- but no one is going to let me-" I say. Nolan looks at me confused once more. I continue "I need you to drive me to the mothers house so I can see the body- I need to see him"

"You know I cant do that- Bradford and Grey would hate me forever if anything happened to you" Nolan replies, shaking his head at me. I look at him with puppy dog eyes. "Nolan please- I need to do this"

He stares at me before taking a deep breath "fine- fine. But you cant tell anyone okay?" I nod and stand up carefully, following Nolan to the shop.

We get in and I give him the address, he puts it into the sat nav and we head towards the house. We sit in silence before we hear Greys voice over the radio "Nolan where is Officer Smith?" He questions.

I look at Nolan and pick the radio up "I'm here sarge- sorry I just disappeared- I wasn't feeling great so asked Nolan to take me out for some fresh air- we will be back soon" I finish.

I hear Greys voice over the radio again "Okay- no worries- but you should have told me first" He finishes. I sigh.

You lied?" I hear from beside me. I tell Nolan that if I told Grey the truth on where we were headed he would fire me.

He nodded and pulled up next to the house. I sigh and get out, heading towards the door, as I approach the mother open the door before I even get there. "Hey ma'am, I'm sorry for your loss- mind showing me where the body is?" I console her.

She nods and leads me inside, I walk carefully and with a slight limp but try not to show her. "Here he is- I- I don't know how this happened.." She told me. I nod. "Thank you, you can wait out there with my Rookie, Officer Nolan, he will look after you.."

As she walks out I look at the body, on the bathroom floor. I kneel down carefully and look at the wounds. There is a scratch on his left arm, and some marks around his neck. I stand up and just stare at the body.

It will never get easier looking at dead bodies, knowing someone has just lost a family member or a friend will never feel any easier.

But this doesn't sir right with me, just like the feeling when I read the girls case file. They have to be connected but how? This man wouldn't just do this to himself. I stand there for a little bit longer before my legs start getting weaker, I haven't stood up for this long in ages.

I walk out into the living room where the mother and Nolan are sat on the couch. I look at Nolan and tilt my head towards the front door, signalling for him to follow me outside. I walk t the shop and get in.

Nolan gets in a second after me. "What's up?" He questions. I sigh and look down. "He was murdered." I say blankly. Nolan just stays quiet before asking "How do you know?"

I don't answer. But I pick up the radio in the shop. "Dispatch this is 7-Adam-15, I need an RA to my location for a DB and I need some backup, maybe the detectives.."

"7-Adam-15 sending backup and an RA to your location"

Nolan looks at me and questions why I did that knowing Grey and Tim would hear. I told him I had to, its protocol. There was a dead body so I had to call it in.

---------------------------------------------

I stay sat in the shop while Nolan goes back into the house to tell the mother what is going on. After about 5 minutes a few cop cars pull up. I stay looking straight forward, oblivious to Tim coming to my side of the vehicle and opening my door, asking me if I'm okay.

I stay staring down before finally looking up at him.

"Ava- are you okay?" He questions. I nod, not letting him know how I really feel. Its rare I show emotion when I'm struggling. "Ava- I'm taking you back to the station to get your stuff then I'm taking you home"

I snap out of my stare. "What? No? I need to find her daughter- she just lost her husband and he didn't kill himself.. he was murdered and I have to find out who." I tell him, sounding the most firm I have in a while.

He shakes his head "No.. you need to go home. And I've cleared it with Grey that I'm having the rest of today off so i can make sure you don't do anything"

I let out a small whine before Tim helps me get out of the shop and towards his shop. He drives me to the station while talking to me about how annoyed he was that I left the station. I didn't listen. Just thinking about the case.

As we get to the station Tim tells me to stay in the vehicle while he goes to get my stuff. Once he returned he drove me to my house, again just telling me about how dangerous it was. I get why he's mad but he doesn't understand. I had to go. I knew something wasn't right.

We got to my house, Tim got out and helped me inside and to the couch. Forcing me to sit down. He went to make me a coffee and when he returned I realised.

"I know what happened to Katie and the father" I stated.

"What? What happened?" Tim questioned, sitting down next to me.

"The husbands friend. He was the only other one there, he was the one that took Katie, the husband caught on and so he got rid of him." I said..

"So you're saying.." Tim starts

I finish for him. "The husbands friend murdered him and took his child."
