Heyyy sorry for no update- been binge watching the rookie LMAO
———————————————-
As I get to the shop I look at Officer Nolan and start "Right boot, this is your shop, do not call it a car it is where you work. First you check the exterior for damage, any nicks, scrapes or dents log em in. Has a suspect left anything: money, drugs, a doogie"
I look up at Nolan and see him trying to take everything in. "Onto shotgun safety" I continue. "Verify it's empty, clear it, close the action"
Nolan nods and then says "body cam test" he looks down and starts talking to his camera "Officer Nolan, yippe kayay"
I clear my throat "what are you doing" I say as he looks back up at me "just testing my body cam"
I roll my eyes as we both get into the shop "now we are inside the car, log into the computer, put in our serial number"
Nolan does as I say and then says "testing lights and sirens"
I nod in agreement then reply "and finally check yourself, you're about to hit the streets with a loaded hand gun and no idea what happens next"
Just as Nolan was about to say something the radio went off in the shop.
"7- Adam- 15 family dispute 1401 West Sycamore. Address has history of domestic calls."
I look at Nolan and then pick up the radio "7-Adam-15, roger" before starting the car and driving to the house.
As we pull up to the house Nolan speaks up "so how do you want to do this?" I look at him and park the shop "show me what you got boot" I reply as he goes up to the door and knocks. "Police open up-"
We wait a second before a tall, larger male opens the door. Nolan begins to speak "sir.. we've got a call about a disturbance-" His eyes wander over to the woman in the back as do mine "you all right ma'am?" Nolan questions. Getting an immediate response from the male "she's fine... so you should leave"
I watch how Nolan does things- his body movements to how he reacts verbally.
Suddenly Nolan says something completely random "trying to make weight?" I look at him confused. As does the male "what?"
Nolan responded quickly "I used to wrestle a little bit in college. I see the plastic sticking out from under your sweat suit"
I watch them carefully.
"Nothing my girlfriend hated more than when I was trying to make fighting weight." He said as he chuckled a bit. "Like my misery was contagious. You know what I mean?" He chuckles again but stops very quickly "Yeah, I can give you a few tips if you'd like. Probably better, though, if the wife doesn't hear, right?" Nolan says as he walks down the porch steps, the man following behind him.
As Nolan does that I head inside to talk to the wife. I walk around and start talking "look- I've had this conversation more times than I can count, and the result is always the same. When he hits you, press charges if you don't, eventually he will kill you." I state firmly.
The wife walks in to the room I'm stood in while holding the dog "you got it all wrong. My husband just looks aggro. Most of the time he's a block of wood, emotionally speaking of course. I push his buttons just to rile him up."
I look at the wife confused as she keeps a straight face. I decide to go and check on Nolan. As I walk out I speak "all good here?"
Nolan doesn't look at me straight away, hesitation and unsureness covering his face, before he finally says "y- yeah"
I nod and take my radio out "7-Adam-15, code 4, show us clear."
We walk up the steps towards the shop as I hear Nolan speak from behind me "What do you think?" I reply without even thinking "that we'll be back"
We carried on doing smaller calls until lunch. I drove us to the food trucks and said to Nolan "you're buying." He agrees before saying "uh yeah- what do you want?" I look at him and smirk "surprise me" I say and I start to walk away, stopping and looking at him "and you will be judged on your decision" I wave and go and sit with Tim and Angela.
"Sooo- how's everyone's day going so far" I chirp out. Tim rolls his eyes as he waits for his food. I look at Angela "how's the legend doing" She looks over at Jackson and then back at me "pretty good- he's got a lot to learn though"
I nod as Nolan comes over to me with a bag of food "here you go" I start to open the bag before saying "has this got meat in it?" He looks away and then replies "uh- no"
I stare at him before my radio goes off again. "7-Adam-15 return to 1401 West Sycamore. Situation has escalated"
I look at Nolan "told you we'd be back"
We scramble to the shop and drive to the house, lights and sirens blaring and shining.
We run to the door, Nolan banging on it "Open up! Police!"
We hear a woman screaming and no answer to the door so we head to the side door, guns out in front of us. I sigh and kick the door open, running inside.
As soon as we enter the living room we see the wife on the males back, with a knife in her hands.
They turn around and we see the woman continuously stabbing the man in the neck as he attempts to her off of him.
Nolan immediately jumps into action and pushes the woman off of the male. I race to the woman and put her in cuffs- just as the husband crashes to the floor. Nolan kneeling at his side.
I watch Nolan put his hands on the wounds "not without gloves!" I tell him but it's too late. "Easy, stay with me, all right?" Nolan says to Carlos
I get my radio out "7-Adam-15 requesting an RA unit to 1401 West sycamore for a male suffering multiple stab wounds."
Meanwhile Nolan kept telling the man to 'stay calm' and that he was 'going to be okay'
I watch the scene unfold. My eyes focused on the victim. Suddenly he stops moving. Stops breathing.
I look up at Nolan to see his face completely pale. He straightens up and stares at the male before looking at me.
I give him a comforting look.
I walk out of the house and to officer Nolan who appeared to be zoned out. "Officer Nolan" I try. No answer. "Nolan!" I say just loud enough to bring him back. "You alright?"
He nods. I knew he was lying but I couldn't do anything about it. A death on the first day is rough.
It happened to me.
A woman being abused by her husband, me and my T.O went into the house early morning, everything seemed okay. But we got called back that afternoon- a very similar situation.
Nolan started talking "the husband hinted that the wife was abusive, but I... I didn't push it"
I sigh "worst thing you can do is think, not act. You gotta trust your instincts, even if I tell you that you're wrong."
As I say this Sargent Grey comes up to us. It's obvious he has a disliking for Officer Nolan, but he had to care for his cops nonetheless "you alright officer Nolan?"
Nolan looked down for a second before replying "yes sir.." Grey nodded "good... go get your paperwork done while I talk with your T.O" "Yes sir" Nolan replied as he made his way to the shop.
Grey turned to me "how'd he do?" I looked at him "dove right in.. even though there was a knife." He nods "good for him.. but not so good for us-"
Confused I question how so. "Do you know why rookies are best trained young officer Smith?" Grey questions. I shake my head.
"Because kids don't know anything. 40 year olds? They think they know everything. Training them is like turning an oil tanker. Odds are, it ain't gonna happen before tragedy strikes"
I nod. I walk away and drive Nolan back to the station. He doesn't say a word. Just zoned out the whole time. When we get back I head to the girls locker room, changing into my clothes and heading home for the day.
Once I'm home I put my work bag down and head for a nice warm shower. The worst thing you can do after a day like today is worry in self pity so I don't let myself. I focus on other things. Once I'm done in the shower I put my pjs on and head to bed.
Wondering what tomorrow is gonna look like.
