I watch as she dances around the stage with the Forbes girl that my brother seems to be infatuated with. Her Y/H/C flowing around her as if it's magic. I watch as she practically floats towards the microphone and opens her mouth. The melody, called her voice, is something I wish I could bottle up and keep for myself, as if it is too pure for this tainted world.

My grip on the table tightens as her Y/E/C meets mine. In my one-thousand years of living I've never seen such a brilliant color. Her eyes, if even possible, shine brighter as her smile grows bigger and she raises her hand in a wave. An euphoric feeling washes over me, but all I'm able to conjure back is a slight nod of my head.

As the song ends I watch as she floats off the stage, as if the air around her was scared to let her fall. My breath hitches in my chest as I see her making her way to me. I go to stand as she approaches me but my vision is blocked by a leather jacket. I fall back into my seat as I watch her run into the arms of Damon Salvatore. My chest tightens as I watch her press her plush lips to his own and laugh as he whispers something in her ear. A dagger to the heart would be a better escape than watching him hold her.

Not being able to stomach one more second I grab my suit jacket and walk towards the door. As I reach the handle I turn back for one last glance, but to my own surprise I see her already looking at me. A small melancholy smile crosses her face. I feel a weak smile come onto my face in return.

As I walk out I wonder if this was my punishment for immortality, for all of the horrors I have committed throughout my years? To watch the one person I can never have, love another for all of eternity and never escape that. Now that is something far more worse than death. But no matter how much pain she causes me, I will wait for her. And even if she won't have me, I will protect her from this world. Until my dying breath.
