After cleaning his teeth, Gawin moved to the wall that held Joss' recently written sticky notes. He read them carefully, absorbing each word, and suddenly a cup of iced coffee materialised in the corner of his eye. He looked to his side, his untidy hair trailing behind him.
Two iced coffees were being held out by a neat and tidy Joss, who was pushing one close to Gawin's hands and presumably the second one belonged to himself.
"I went out and got you something." Joss hesitated in between his sentences before continuing, "And I simply wanted to apologise. I am aware that what I said was impolite. I know they've hurt you. I didn't mean to offend you..."
Gawin took the coffee. Joss clenched around his own cup of coffee, still staring down at his feet. "I'm sorry, Gawin."
Gawin's eyes were filled with shock as he gazed at Joss. He was unsure on how to feel. He was unsure if he wanted to forgive him or not. Or even accept the apology from the man. But since the two will now be working closely together, it's preferable to forgive him than to harbour resentment indefinitely.
"I acknowledge your apologies... However, please watch what you say the next time. I was deeply offended by what you said."
Joss looked away from his shoes and brightened up, grinning broadly. He was surprised at how quickly Gawin accepted his apology. It was as though he were a dog since he seemed to be so excited that his tail is wagging behind him.
Then, ignoring Joss's enthusiasm, Gawin glanced back to the wall. He looked across the wall. That Joss took the time to send such uplifting and reaffirming reminders struck him as really charming. He could feel his body cooling down and his shoulders becoming more relaxed. He felt much more at ease this morning thanks to the iced coffee.
"I will resume my work and return to assist you with your assignment. I'll see you later."
Joss stepped out of the bedroom after turning around. His footsteps echo down the corridor and can be heard from Gawin's chamber. They could be heard coming down the stairs, and they were loud and clear, as if he knew exactly where he was headed. Finally, without Joss nearby, Gawin felt himself unwind much more.
He set down the nearly completed coffee on his desk. Still wearing his clothes from yesterday, he headed to his closet. He discovered a basic outfit consisting of his white slippers, grey sweatpants, and a green shirt. He wanted to wear something light and simple because it was a hot day. He took a seat on his bed and began looking through his lectures to see what notes he might take in advance.
The thought of what had happened between his father and Joss suddenly came to him.On his first day here, Joss had been studying with him till he had fell asleep. However, the sound of his father's arrival home woke Gawin. The problem is that when he heard his father abruptly speaking to Joss, he didn't open his eyes. Although he didn't want to listen in, he was intrigued to find out what the two were discussing when he wasn't around.
He listened as his father expressed gratitude to Joss for taking care of Gawin while he was away and for hiring Joss. Gawin started to ignore the chat because he didn't find it intriguing, but he started to pay attention when paying Joss was mentioned. He heard how sorry his father was and that he wouldn't be able to pay Joss for some time, but Gawin was taken aback by what he heard next.
"I don't need you to pay me."
He was shocked to hear Joss say those words. Because he was shocked by the idea of not having to be compensated. What use did Joss's employment serve, then? There was no reason for him to be hired at all if he didn't need the money. Besides, he put in the most effort of any employee here, so why wouldn't he want to get compensated for it? It was all so confusing for him...
"Then how can I repay you for the work you've done for me?"
"You can repay from not telling Gawin. Don't tell him you don't pay me. Please. Keep the money for yourself."
It was strange to hear Joss say those things. He didn't want Gawin to know, but why? Gawin already knows because he was listening to their talk without their knowing, thus it's too late now. Why exactly is Joss doing all of this?
Perhaps he should ask Joss about it later. He had to get dressed first, though, in order to start taking notes for his lectures. He began to dress after hurriedly shaking the thoughts from his mind. He slipped his feet into the slippers, pulled up the sweatpants, and put on the shirt. He had observed, though, that his favoured pants were falling off his waist. Then he heard Joss's voice in his mind.
"And are you even eating properly?"
He secretly hoped he wouldn't let Joss down for some reason. He had therefore made the decision to go prepare his own breakfast, making sure to bring his laptop with him so he could begin taking notes during the meal. Pulling out his desk drawer, he took out his favoured green pens and highlighters. Other than making sure his notes contained all the information he needed, he also wanted them to look nice.
After gathering all of his belongings into a mound, he descended the stairs. Since this wasn't his usual routine, he felt a little nervous. He never prepared his own breakfast, he never slept past 7 a.m. because it was now 9 a.m., and he never had time for coffee or even to change. He would simply get up at five in the morning and spend the rest of the evening studying at his desk. Because he didn't want his father to worry too much, he would constantly take care to avoid being discovered studying.
He arrived at the kitchen, from where he had to pass the gate to the area. Gawin could see Joss chatting with an irate customer on the other side of the gate, and he could also see how busy the store was. It appeared to be a young man with some sort of stain on his shirt. Gawin dreaded the loud noises, and it was early in the morning. So he decided to investigate what all the fuss was about.
After scattering his belongings on the kitchen counter, he headed towards the shopfront. He noticed what he was wearing as he opened the gate and prepared to enter the store. He hated the sound of arguments, but he also didn't want to appear careless in front of customers. But he entered the shopfront anyways.
"May I ask what is the problem here?"
The irate client and Joss both turned to face Gawin. When the young man's entire face was revealed, Gawin was able to identify him. Gawin's singing abilities were the reason their university's dancer sought to hire him. According to Gawin's memory, the man's name was Aou, and Boom was his model boyfriend. Aou's expression calmed down at least a hundred degrees when he realised it was Gawin.
Joss appeared quite self-assured and showed no signs of remorse. However, before he saw Gawin, Aou appeared to be threatening to strangle Joss. "Gawin, this jerk spilt his coffee all over me."
Joss had spoken before Gawin had a chance to respond. "You really like lying, huh?"
Joss looked at Gawin with annoyance. "As I was sipping it, he suddenly appeared and knocked his groceries onto the counter, hitting the arm I was using to hold my coffee."
Aou began to yell just as Gawin was about to say anything. "Oh! The liar himself says! Dude, you should not even be drinking at work!"
A headache began to build in Gawin's head. Both of them were being noisy and a little annoying. Even the other customers in the store were annoyed by their shouting. The only thing Gawin could do was to yell, "You two, please be quiet and let me sort this out."
