(Lily POV)
I hated how I did nothing. Watched as those kids were sent to slaughter. By the time I had discovered the base three fourths had already gone through. I could have saved that last fourth. Especially since Fenrir was with me.
But I didn't. If I did, then there was no doubt that the Du Lac's would find out. And before we could do anything they'd be gone, hidden from us.
It would have jeopardized everything.
I thought that I had become used to death. After killing Mother and many Children of Lupercio, I thought I had gotten used to the slaughter.
I've seen countless dead. My hands have taken multiple lives. Yet, doing nothing for those kids...I felt disgusting.
I guess I have a soft spot for children.
Today was the day after had I came back from my information gathering. We were back at the table, the time for us to strike almost here.
I picked up a couple of things from the talking, but luckily Ken translated for me so I had the full picture.
Everybody started to stand up. I followed their lead, getting to my feet. They started to walk out of the room, heading out.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"We finished getting ready." Ken stated. "I now have a special device in case we need to contact them."
He pointed to a small device sat in his ear.
"Now we need to head to the base." Ken continued. "That's what the others are doing."
Erica walked over, a small Fenrir sitting on her shoulder. "Hey...be safe, you two."
"We will." Ken stated. "Don't die on us."
"Not yet." Erica smiled. She gave each of us a hug, before planting a kiss on Ken's mouth. "I'll see you soon."
"Alright." Ken sweetly smiled at her as she walked off.
I wanted Ken to smile at me that way. A smile full of love. I was so envious of Erica. She got to kiss Ken so lovingly. I love Erica, but I couldn't help but be jealous.
I really am terrible.
"Lily." Ken said, looking over to me. "Lead the way."
"Okay." I nodded.
We exited Erica's home, sneakily heading to the base. It was in an abandoned warehouse, like almost all secret bases are. It's underground, similar to what I've heard from Iris about Isaac's base.
It didn't take long to make it to the abandoned warehouse. Despite the fact it was supposed to be abandoned, there were guards around. Really, how did no one notice this before?
We waited for the clock to hit 1:00. If we started too early, they may contact main base and the Du Lac's will be on guard, if not fleeing.
Once the clock struck 1:00, we finally attacked. For now, we were being stealthy. We dropped down. I stabbed one of the guards through the neck with a knife, grabbing his mouth from behind so no one could hear his gurgling screams.
Ken easily decapitated the other guard outside of the warehouse with his sword, blood spewing from their neck. It was beautiful how gracefully he did it.
Ken slammed the doors open to the warehouse. There were multiple guards sitting at a table, playing some cars game. They launched to their feet, looking towards us.
I sunk into the shadows, planning to sneak behind them. It wasn't even needed as Ken morphed his sword into a pistol, fiery bullets flying out and peppering the guards with holes. They dropped down, their blood soaking the stone floor.
"Hey Lily, where's the entrance?" Ken asked.
I popped out of the shadows, shoving the table the guards were playing on. Stepping over their bodies, I gripped at the hatch under and opened it, revealing a staircase.
"How did you get through here without fighting anyone last time?" Ken curiously asked.
"There's a ventilation shaft I could have crawled through." I stated. "But since you're here, it would be easier to just go through the main way."
"Makes sense." Ken replied.
We walked down the stairs. Slamming open the doors at the bottom, we quickly took care of the guards.
"I'll take care of the guards." Ken stated. "You get to the kids as quickly as possible."
"Alright." I nodded.
I ran through the halls, heading to where they should be. Multiple guards looked at me in surprise, before shaking out of it.
Before they could do anything sounds of battle commenced behind me. Ken was taking care of them, just like he said he would.
I continued to run without looking back. I trusted that Ken wouldn't let one of them shoot me. I trusted him with my life.
I slammed the doors open to the "room" that housed the kids. In actuality it was a cell. A cell in everything but name.
The kids jumped in surprise, looking at me in shock and a little fear. The guards turned towards me in surprise. One quickly grabbed his gun.
I punched him in the gut, grabbing his arm holding the gun and slammed my knee against it. It broke as he screamed, the gun clattering to the floor.
I quickly threw him at the other guard, the other guard dodged his friend. As he looked back to me, he was met with a gun to the head. The gun of his comrade.
I wanted to shoot him so badly, but I'd rather not scare the children even more. I would hate it if I was the source for their trauma.
The guard stared at me, his hand twitching as he waited for a moment to grab his gun and shoot me before I could shoot him.
I kicked him in the nuts, making him gasp and fall to his knees. A pistol whip then knocked him out. I then knocked out the guy with the broken arm by stomping on his head.
I'll kill the both of them later.
I went to the door of the cell, breaking the lock with Hassan and opening it. The kids stared at me, warily.
I crouched down, dismissing Hassan in front of their eyes. I gave them a relieved smile. "Hey, are you all alright?" I said with my best English possible.
The sounds of fighting echoed from outside the room.
"Me and my friend are going to get you all out of this disgusting place. Can you come with me?" I asked them, extending my hand out.
"...y-yes." One boy nodded, walking up and grasping my hand.
In response I just smiled. The other kids seemed to warm up to me with the display, shuffling over.
The doors opened as Ken entered, a little bit of blood on him. The children cowered back from him before I smiled at them.
"It's okay, he's with me. He's helping get you out of here." I stated. "Is this everyone?"
It was silent, before one young girl spoke up.
"I-I don't think so..." She muttered. "I-I heard them talking about a successful experiment...Experiment X."
"I...I think it's someone from before us..." She continued.
"It probably is." Ken whispered to me. "I'll get them out of here, you go find that last one and any others they may have."
"Okay." I nodded. "Keep them safe. And don't traumatize them."
"Really, you trust me so little?" He smirked.
I elbowed him, rolling my eyes . "I mean, do you want me to answer?"
"Maybe not." He lightly laughed.
I looked over to the kids. "He's going to get you out of here while I look for any others. Can you go with him?"
"W-we can." One nodded.
Ken smiled at them, helping melt the tension. "Let's get you all out of here."
He nodded towards me, leading them out of the cell and leaving the room. As they left, I counted fifteen of them. Fifteen kidnapped orphans.
It was disgusting.
I quickly snapped the necks of the two knocked-out guards now that the kids were gone.
Experiment X...I think I know. When I had arrived here, none of the kids I watched had survived. But from the ones before I arrived I heard that one did indeed survive.
That must be Experiment X, and there has to be a singular place that they have her. The lab.
I worked my way there, stabbing the necks of panicking guards as I made my way to that area of the underground base.
I reached the outside of the lab, which seemed to have high-tech doors that I wouldn't be able to get through. I couldn't see through the steel door either, it didn't have any windows.
Well, time for the vents.
I quickly found one of the vents. It wasn't tough since I had crawled through them before. I squeezed my way through them, and this was one of the few times I thanked my small boobs.
I followed the ventilation path to where I should be above the lab. Good thing I had memorized the map of the vents beforehand.
I made it to where the vent ended on the ceiling, allowing me to gaze down. The two scientists seemed to be panicking as they boarded up the doors.
A single girl was strapped to a table, crying. A syringe was stuck in her, drawing blood. One of the two scientist grabbed it, putting the vial of blood into a machine by the computer which seemed to analyze it.
It was disgusting.
"This is amazing." The first scientist gasped. "Look at this!"
The second scientist stopped boarding up the already heavily guarded doors, rushing over to look at the data. "Holy shit." She gasped.
"Do you understand what this means?" The first scientist asked. "We can't let anyone else find this out, certainly not whoever has broken into here."
"The guards will take care of them." The second scientist uncertainly replied.
"We don't know." He stated. "I'm putting this into the usb."
He copied the data into the usb, pocketing it in his lab coat. "We have to get this to the boss as soon as possible. Hopefully we can get a raise with this!"
"We'll have to get something." The second scientist argued. "This will make history! This will be documented and will be one of the most major events in our history since the first openings of the rifts!"
The only thing you'll get is death.
I jumped down.
