You wake up to someone pounding on your door quickly, shouting at you to get up. You groan, lifting your head off your pillow and looking down at your watch. It was already 7:45! You were supposed to be up half an hour ago. Scrambling to get out of bed, you jump up, running over to the small mirror in the corner of your room.

Once you get over there, your over come by a wave of dizziness. You tumble to the side, crashing into the wall as you fall to the floor. The blow knocks the wind out of you, and your sent into a coughing fit, doubled over on the wood floors. Eventually your coughs calm down, leaving you gasping for air. A massive headache clouds your mind as you rub your forehead, begging for it to go away.

Suddenly your door bursts open, and your eyes meet Newts worried gaze. "Bloody hell (Y/n)! What happened," he snaps, running over to you and helping you sit up against the wall. You forgot he was in the room right next to you.

"S-Sorry. I tripped. Just stood up a little to fast," you tell him in a wheezy voice. You swat his hands away, planting your palms on the ground and scooting over to your bed. Grabbing onto the sheets, you pull yourself into a standing position. You hold in a groan when another wave of dizziness engulfs you. Newts arms wrap around your waist, making sure you don't tip. "Newt I'm fine," you whine, crawling up onto your bed and spinning around to face him. "For real. I'll be out in a minute."

"(Y/n) your obviously not-"

"Newt just get out. I promise I'm ok. I'll meet you in the kitchens," you half heartedly smile at him through tired eyes. He sighs, slouching out of the room and closing the door behind him. You fall backwards, your hands out and above your head as a few more coughs escape your lips.

After a few minutes, you sit up, running your fingers through your hair a few times and pulling it up into a high ponytail. You walk out of your room only to run right into Newts chest.

"Bloody hell (Y/n). I was about to go back in there to get you," he exclaims, grabbing your shoulders so you didn't stumble. You give him another halfhearted smile, still feeling dizzy. "Hey are you sure your ok," he asks in a concerned tone. You grab his wrists, gently forcing his hands off your shoulders.

"I'm fine," you tell him, trying to not cringe from the massive headache. You start walking away, down the stairs and out of the homestead when he catches up to you. Lets hope you didn't get any worse through out the day.

Time Skip after breakfast

You walked out of the kitchens with all of your friends, about to disperse to your separate jobs. Giving your friends a lazy wave goodbye, and getting a worried look from Newt, you followed Winston over to the bloodhouse.

Once you got inside, the stench didn't help your headache. Your nose was stuffy, and you were still stumbling around as you followed him.

"Ok we gotta wash out the animal pens outside, and we gotta get a piglet. What do you want to do," he asks, looking at a small list to see what jobs the other slicers had already taken up.

"I'll wash out the animal pens. The smell in here is giving me a headache," you tell him, and he chuckles.

"Yep it can do that to ya sometimes," he says with another laugh. "Ok you can go ahead and get to work out there, and holler if you need anything." You nod at him, making your way back outside slowly, and over to the tool shed. You would have to rake out all of the old hay and klunk, then hose it all down, but first you needed the rake and the shovel.

Walking past the track-hoes probably wasn't a good idea, because Newt was with them, and you could still see the worry etched into his face. Shaking it off, which didn't help with your headache, you open the tool shed, walking inside. Looking around for a second, you finally find a rake and an extra shovel over in the corner. You walk over to it, and grab the handles, dragging them behind you as you close the door of the tool shed.

Of course right as you get out, you go into a coughing fit. Turning around so your facing the shed, you cough into your arm. It gives you a sore throat, only adding to the torture you were trying to hide. Just as you turn around, once again you run right into Newts chest. He has a mixed expression on his face, partially annoyed and partially worried.

"(Y/n) you need to go to the medjacks. Your obviously sick," he tells you in a stern tone. You scoff at him, maneuvering around him as you keep walking to the barn. He steps right back in front of you again. "(Y/n) I'm not kidding," he growls at you, now an angry expression on his face.

"Oh my god Newt. Just shuck off. Leave me alone," you snap at him in a hoarse voice. You shove past him, colliding your shoulder with his as you continue walking to the barn. He doesn't try to stop you again, and you suddenly feel sorry for what you said to him.

He was only trying to help you. Ever since you came up in the box a year ago he has been your best friend, so he knew when something was wrong. You had never raised your voice at him, and vise versa, so that probably hurt him a lot. Making a mental note to apologize to him later you make it to the outside pens.

When you open the pig pen you immediately cough into your elbow. This was more of a gag reflex though. You don't know why you thought cleaning the pens out here would be better, but you knew you would rather do this than kill one of the piglets. Ya you were a slicer, and you could get a job like that done, but it didn't mean you wanted to.

Taking a deep breath, you started raking the pen, moving everything over into one corner. It smelled horrible, and multiple times you had to hold in a gag, but at least you were keeping up with your work.

Newts POV

I looked over to the outside animal pens to see (Y/n) keeping both hands palm down on top of her shovel, and resting her forehead on the back of her hand. Her shoulders jerked up and down with her ragged breathing, and it looked like she could tip over at any second now.

"Hey Newt," Zart calls from across the fields. "Can you go get me some more ties," he shouts the question to make sure I heard it. I was closest to the tool shed, so I gave him a thumbs up and he nodded his head, going back to tying the vines onto the post with his remaining ties.

I jog over to the shed as quickly as possible, not wanting to leave (Y/n) out of my sight for to long and I grab a handful of zip ties. I close the door behind me and run over to the other side of the field, passing the ties to Zart.

"Thanks dude," he says, going back to work and continuing his conversation with the other track-hoe. I turn around, about to walk back over to my section of the gardens when I see (Y/n) stumble behind the barn.

"Zart I'll be right back, ok," I tell him and he looks over and nods at me. I turn back towards the barn and I start running over there, wanting to make sure (Y/n) was ok. Ya she might have gotten upset with me earlier, but I still wanted to check on her.

Once I'm about to turn the corner to the back of the barn, heaving coughs come from behind the building. I look around the corner to see (Y/n) leaning against the barn. Her forearm was against the splintered wood, and her forehead was resting against her arm, her other arm hanging limply at her side. Once again her shoulders jerked up and down with her heavy pants.

"(Y/n) what's going on," I ask her in a strong tone, walking around the corner. Her head jerks up, and I see that she isn't doing good. Beads of sweat drip down her forehead and her eyes are swollen and red, and she looks like she's on the verge of tears.

"Newt it's so hot out here," she pants, leaning her forehead on her arm again.

"Come on I'm taking-" I'm interrupted by her body being sent into another fit of heaving coughs. She falls to her knees, bending over and puking on the ground. I run to her side, dropping down next to her and wrapping my arm around her shoulders. She coughs again and spits out any remains that were in her mouth, and practically goes limp in my side. "Shuck," I mutter under my breath.

Suddenly her head rolls forward, dropping in front of her. "(Y/n)," I ask worriedly as I shake her shoulders. When I get no response I panic. "(Y/n)," I snap, picking her limp body up in my arms and rushing out from behind the barn.

"Med-jacks," I shout, running over to the medhut as quickly as possible. Jeff opens the door, and I run inside, shouting random nonsense.

"Newt stop! What happened," Clint snaps at me as Jeff takes (Y/n) from my arms and lays her on a cot.

"I don't know! She got sick, then passed out," I yell back, wanting to know what was wrong with her.

Jeff and Clint run around for a few minutes, not doing anything in particular to actually help (Y/n). After a minute they calm down, and come back over to me.

"Looks like she's got a stomach bug. Nothing to do except wait until she wakes up and it passes," they tell me. They guide me out of her room to let her rest for a while, promising me they'll come get me when she wakes up.

Time skip

It's later that evening, during dinner. I'm sitting with my friends, but I'm not actually paying attention to what their talking about because I'm to worried about (Y/n). When would she wake up?

As if on cue, Clint jogs into the kitchens, looking around the crown of boys. My head perks up, and when he spots me, he nods his head, and I run over to him.

"Is she ok? When did she wake up? Did something happen," I'm shooting questions at him, unable to stay calm.

"Yes she's fine. She's asking for you though," he tells me. I don't need any more information before I'm sprinting over to the medhut as fast as my limp would take me. I run into the small building, racing to her room, and bursting through the door, too excited and worried to knock. When I get inside, (Y/n) screeches from her position on the cot, jumping slightly from me bursting in.

"Bloody hell are you ok? What happened? Clint said you were asking for me," I'm now shooting questions at her, striding up to the side of her cot.

"Newt calm down," she tells me tiredly, leaning her head back on her pillow. "I'm fine I promise. I just wanted to say thanks," she whispers, looking as if it's hard to even keep her eyes open.

I shake my head at her,a few laughs escaping my lips. "I swear I'm gonna send you to the slammer if you ever tell me your fine again," I joke, making a small smile appear on her face. She starts panting slightly, her body still tired from fighting off the stomach bug. "Get some sleep love. I promise I'll be right here when you wake up," I whisper to her, grabbing her small hand in my large one.

"Newt no. You need to go. I don't want you getting sick," she whispers in a rasping voice.

"(Y/n) I wouldn't care if I got sick at this point," I tell her, but she shakes her head, her eyes getting squintier and squintier by the second. God she looked so tired. It made my heart practically melt that she was in the position that she was, but she was worried about me getting sick.

"Look the glade needs the second-in-command, and you can't do that if your stuck in a cot next to me," she rasps, making her suck in a deep breath. She goes into a coughing fit, and I reach up to pet her hair, still squeezing her hand tightly. My hand reaches under her neck, lifting her head slightly to try and ease the coughs. Once her jerking shoulders go still, she takes in a few deep gasping breaths. She turns onto her side facing me, looking up at me with tired eyes.

"Just get some sleep," I whisper to her, leaning down and giving her a soft kiss on her forehead. She gives me the tiniest smile, squeezing my hand slightly before falling back asleep, unable to keep her eyes open.
