You walk into your house, sighing from the cool air. "Newt I'm home," you shout into the house, going to sit down on the couch. You had been living in the safe haven for almost six years now. You had two kids, and a job working as a nurse in the hospital.
You had gotten home especially late that night because you and Brenda had to deal with a patient who broke their leg. You sighed as you flopped down on the couch, leaning your head back and closing your eyes. Your breathing heavy, tired from the long day, when you hear something in the kitchen.
"Newt," you ask curiously, lifting your head up. "Newt," you ask again, this time very cautious, getting up and walking towards the kitchen. It's pitch black, so you run your hand along the wall, trying to find the light switch. You find it, and switch it up, but the light doesn't turn on. "Ugh," you groan, trying to switch a few more times.
Suddenly curtains are peeled away from the window in the kitchen, causing a faint glow from the moon. You see a figure outlined by the faint light, and you have to squint until your eyes adjust. You realize it's Newt.
"God Newt don't do that. You scared me," you say with a laugh. He walks up to you, and wraps his arms around your waist. "What are you doing," you ask with a laugh, wondering why he was acting so mysterious.
"May I have this dance," he asks, leaning his forehead down to yours.
"What do you mean," you ask chuckling. Your laugh is cut short by the sound of a song being played on the radio, and you immediately recognize it as Home by Blue October.
I'll smile if I want to
I'm not afraid, gonna flaunt it to
What a glow when your livin true, ya
I'm livin for the right now
I had a few friends show me how, ya
I take a deep breath and blow it out, let it go
But listen I, I can't wait to see what's around the corner
I can't wait to soar
But baby, I lie awake and I watch you sleeping thinking it's the little things that make a home
Newt is swaying you back and forth gently until the faster lyrics start playing. He twirls you around, holding onto your hand, pulling you back to his chest, only to twirl you again.
Like dancin in the kitchen in the pale moonlight
Only care in the world is that our kids are alright
Daddy loves momma and momma loves him
Tomorrow we get to do it over again
So smile at me baby
Take my breath away
With the good lord willing I'll be happy to say
That daddy loves momma and momma loves him
Tomorrow we get to do it over again
He looks into your eyes lovingly as he holds you to him. You blush, and rest your head on his shoulder, pressing your body to his. He places a hand on the back of your head, swaying your body's to the music.
I feel like I'm gonna win
And I'm as proud as I've ever been
Cause I'm surrounded with some good friends
Good friends, good friends
I'm forever like a tattoo
I stay sticky cause I gotta be the glue for my girl, my friends, my home, family
I do it all
Truly I can't wait to see what's around the corner
I can't wait to soar
But baby, I lie awake and I watch you sleeping thinking it's the little things that make home
He starts twirling you again.
Cause we'll be dancing in the kitchen in the pale moonlight
Only care in the world is that our kids are alright
Daddy loves momma and momma loves him
Tomorrow we get to do it over again
He suddenly starts singing along with the song, making you giggle.
So smile at me baby
Take my breath away
With the good lord willing I'll be happy to say
That daddy loves momma and momma loves him
Tomorrow we get to do it over again
We found our home
Something we can build for years
The young
And old
I'll be there to wipe your tears
We all get to see what we grow up to be
An anchor when in doubt
An ocean when in drought
We aim for it all
We lift up these walls
To make this house our home
Dancin in the kitchen in the pale moonlight
Only care in the world is that our kids are alright
Daddy loves momma and momma loves him
Tomorrow we get to do it over again
So smile at me baby take my breath away
With the good lord willing I'll be happy to say
That daddy loves momma and momma loves him
Dancin in the kitchen in the pale moonlight
Only care in the world is that our kids are alright
Daddy loves momma and momma loves him
Tomorrow we get to do it over again
So smile at me baby take my breath away
With the good lord willing I'll be happy to say
That daddy loves momma and momma loves him
Tomorrow we get to do it over again
The last note of the song plays, just as Newt finishes twirling you, and he pulls you back to himself. You wrap your arm lazily over the back of his neck, and rest your forehead against his. You have a goofy smile on your face as you just look him in the eye. You take a deep breath, about to say something, when you hear two little voices giggling from around the corner.
You pull away from Newt, and turn your head, seeing two little kids poking their heads around the corner. You kneel down on the ground, holding your arms open, and they run to you.
"Oh I missed you guys so much," you say, squeezing them to your body. They just keep giggling excitedly.
"I thought I tucked you two in," Newt says in an a mock suspicious tone while raising an eyebrow. They respond by giggling some more.
You stand up, lifting Chuck up onto your hip, while Newt lifts Abby up on his back. You named your five year old son Chuck after your little brother who didn't make it out of the maze, and Newt named your four year old daughter Abby after Alby.
"Come on let's get you two to bed," you say, holding onto Chuck.
"Awww," they both whine.
"Oh come on. You have to get to bed so you can be as fast as Uncle Minho and Uncle Tommy," you say, knowing this will get to them.
They both gasp dramatically, and Chuck scrambled out of your arms while Abby jumps off Newts back. They run to their room, and you hear them jump onto their beds.
"Come on! Your taking to long," Chuck shouts.
"Ya we've been waiting for like ever," Abby replies in a sassy tone, making Newt smirk at you while you stick your tongue out at him. You both had just had a conversation the other day about who Abby gets her sassy side from, and Newt said it was definitely you, even though you denied it.
You walk down the hall, and go into their shared room, going to the bunk bed. You step up on the first rung of the ladder and lean over so you can give Chuck a kiss on his forehead.
You step off the ladder, and kneel down to give Abby a kiss on her head. You stand back up, grabbing Newts arm, and pulling him with you. You say goodnight, and step out into the hall, closing the door behind you, and walking to your room. You step inside, and the first thing you do is wrap your arms around Newts neck, leaning your forehead on his.
"Thank you," you whisper to him with tears in your eyes. He chuckles at you, and wraps his arms around your lower back, holding you to him. He knew you never thought you would ever actually be able to do anything the lyrics of that song talked about, so you were probably the happiest person alive to that day.
"I love you so much," he whispers, leaning down a little more, and connecting your lips. It was a soft, loving kiss that you smiled into. He pulled away after a few seconds, still resting his forehead on yours.
"I love you to," you say, a tear falling down your cheek. You keep crying happy tears, as you hug Newt tighter, hiding your face in his shoulder. He must have known they were happy tears, cause he gently rubs your back, holding you tightly, while he whispers, "I love you so much," over and over again.
Eventually your tears stop falling, and your legs turn to jello. Newt picks you up bridal style, and sets you down on the bed, crawling in behind you, and pulling the covers up. He wraps his arms around your stomach, and you lean back into his chest, relishing the feeling of his warm body against yours.
"Good night, love," he whispers to you, leaving gently kisses over the back of your neck.
"Good night, Newtie," you mumble, falling asleep seconds later, just happy to be in your husbands arms.
