This is a request from... Oh lord please help me. Ok I can't find who sent me this request, but you know who you are, and I just want to say that I am so sorry it took me so long, but here it is!
Newts POV
"(Y/n)! (Y/n)! Where the bloody hell is she," I wonder to myself, continuing to look around the glade.
Flashback
I had gotten up early this morning, and when I went to go wake (Y/n) up - cause she always wakes up late - she wasn't in her room. Different ideas make their way into my head, and I immediately run out of the room, and out of the homestead.
I look around until I finally spot Alby, and I jog up to him.
"Alby," I call to my best friend as he walks down to the kitchens.
"Hey Newt. What's up," he asks, turning towards me.
"Have you seen (Y/n) this morning? I thought the runners we're supposed to be taking the day off," I ask, mentally double checking that I had my days right.
"Ya they do. She's probably sleeping in. I know that girl would never miss the chance to," he laughed.
"I just went into her room. She's gone," I start to panic. Alby gets a curious look on his face as if he's trying to come up with a reasonable solution to the strange problem.
"I'm sure she's fine. Maybe she went to take a shower, or she might already be over in the kitchen."
I sigh as he turns around, continuing his trip to go get some food, and deciding there's no better place to start looking for her, I follow. My eyes keep shooting around the glade, hoping I might see her out of the corner of my eye.
With no luck between the homestead to the kitchens, I decide to ask Frypan if he'd seen her at all this morning.
"Ya she came by earlier this morning to grab a sandwich and an apple," Frypan tells me, making my stomach go sour. That's what the runners we're supposed to pack each morning for their lunch in the maze.
"Have you seen her since," Alby asks beside me.
"Nah. I think she went off to the deadheads or something. She got up pretty early, even for being a runner. I was surprised she even woke up without you going to get her," Frypan nods his head at me. I sigh, crossing my arms over my chest and looking down at my shoes while I thought about where she might be. She wouldn't have gone back into the maze alone would she? Even through her protests, Alby insisted she have one of the boys run with her, and shes obeyed his commands. My mind is begging me that that is still the case.
End Flashback
Now my brain was scrambling through places she might be, or people she might be with. I look up and I see Noah walking towards us, stretching his arms above his head, and me and Alby walk over to him, me practically bouncing on my toes from nerves. Noah was her running partner, so if he was here, then that meant (Y/n) hadn't left the glade... right?
"Hey Noah. You wouldn't have happened to see (Y/n) at all this morning, would you," Alby asks.
"No. I thought the runners got the day off today." He looks panicked, as if me and Alby would get him in trouble for not getting out into the maze today.
"Where the bloody hell is she," I ask myself again, running a hand through my hair, and Noah seems to catch on to what is going on.
"Wait she went back into the maze," he panics, both of his hands flying up to the top of his head.
"No, no. Let's not jump to any conclusions," Alby holds his hands out in a 'calm down' motion. "We don't know that she went back into the maze this morning, we just don't know where she is."
"And she picked up a runners lunch from Frypan this morning," I add, Alby rolling his eyes as I kept suggesting she went back into the maze.
"Well then we need to find her! Have you checked her room? The runners hut? Deadheads? Medjack shack? Gardens-"
"Ok we get it. There are still a bunch of places we need to check, but it might go a little quicker if we have more of the guys looking for her, or at least keeping an eye out," Alby says.
We continue asking around, and telling each boy we asked to either be on the lookout for her, or join the search.
I was getting more panicked by the minute. We kept asking more and more boys if they had seen her, but they were just as clueless as I was.
We eventually got a group of about 15 boys who were splitting up and searching around the Glade for her, but every place we checked turned up empty.
"Where could she be," I grumble to myself.
"Newt you're her best friend. Where does she like to go after her runs?"
"I-i don't know," I stutter, frustrated. "I mean sometimes she goes down to the pond at the back of the dead heads, or she goes to her room."
"Ok Clint, Seth. You go check her room. The rest of you spread out through the deadheads," Alby orders.
Two whole hours later the deadheads had been checked twice, and still no sign of her.
"Alby! The doors are about to close," one of the boys screams through the forest, making me flinch. She wasn't out in the maze was she? No. She just found a really good hiding spot somewhere here in the glade, and we're gonna find her any minute. At least that's what I kept telling myself. Still, me, Alby, and the rest of the boys ran to her normal entrance to the glade, waiting for her to come running around the corner with a grin on her face, and then I was going to tackle her in a hug.
It was odd the way me and (Y/n) became friends. This was back when I had tried to jump off of the maze wall. I had just climbed to the top of the wall, and I was sitting on the ledge, mentally double checking that I was ready to do this. Just as I was about to jump off the edge, I saw something jump towards me out of the corner of my eye. I quickly spun around to see what the moving thing was, but in my rush to turn towards it, I slipped off the wall. All I felt was falling, and then nothing. I had woken up almost four days later, and there was a girl sitting at my bedside, looking at me with a worried expression.
Turns out she had been living in the maze for almost a month, and she had always been to scared to come to the glade.
Now we've been friends ever since, but I think my feeling have grown beyond friendship, and I don't know how to react to this new way that I feel about my best friend.
I'm shot back into the real world by a gust of wind blowing in my face, and the loud grumble of rock scraping on rock. Multiple boys flinched, taking a step forward as if they were going to charge into the maze, but they knew there was nothing they could do for her even if she was in there. After what felt like an eternity, but was really only a few seconds, the doors closed with a crack.
Most of the boys didn't know what to do. Some stood in shock. Some held a hand to their mouth, not really comprehending what just happened. Others even had tears slipping down their cheeks.
I was a mix of all three. I didn't know how to comprehend what had just happened, and I felt something hot and wet slide down my cheek. Was she really gone? My brain continued to scramble around for any reasonable place that she might be. But we had checked everyw-
The second the idea popped into my head I was sprinting off towards the forest away from the group of sad boys.
"Newt? Newt!" Alby screamed after me as I ran. I just ignored him, continuing my path into the forest. I mentally cursed my limp when I had to slow down as I jumped over logs and rocks. The only thing that was running through my mind was, "Please be there. Please be there. Please be there." All I wanted was to see (Y/n)s happy, smiling face that always seemed to keep me sane.
"(Y/n)!" I called once I had gotten close enough to her hiding spot that she could hear me. "(Y/n)!" I screamed again.
"Newt?"
I don't think I've ever been as happy or excited to hear her voice then I was at that moment. As I continued to jog over to the concrete wall, she crawled out of the small nook that she liked to call her hiding place.
"Bloody hell (Y/n)," I tackle her into a hug, making us do a few roles over each other across the ground until we stop, and she's on top of me.
"Wow someone missed me," she laughs, wrapping her arms around my neck and hugging me back as if this were a normal, everyday thing.
"We thought you had gone back into the maze, and then when the doors closed-" I rambled on and on about everything that had happened, threatening to ground her to the pit for the rest of her life multiple times.
"Well I'm fine. Just wanted to get away from you guys for a little bit," she shrugs.
"Bloody hell," I whisper to myself, pulling her back to my chest once we had sat up. "You scared me," I tell her softly, refusing to let go.
"I'm fine. Really. But why were you so worried," she questions suspiciously, pulling away to look me straight in the eye.
"Well I uh- I just you know- I was just-"
"It's cause he has a huge crush on you," Minho shouts from behind a nearby tree, making you and Newt jump.
"Minho I swear to the bloody creators, I'm gonna toss you to the grievers," Newt snaps, making you giggle.
"Hey Mr. Second-in-Command," you say, getting Newt to look back at you. "Don't worry. I think it's cute," you tell him before giving him a kiss on his cheek and walking off, leaving a dumbfounded Newt and a smirking Minho behind.
